Ensure your child is kindergarten-ready. Enroll him or her in a YMCA pre-K program today.

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in the world of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our programs provide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships. Y programs encourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensory experiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and foster a love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science as they develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

Preschool Programs Buehler YMCA offers play-based Preschool Programs that encourage children to explore their environment as they develop creativity, problem-solving and skills related to cognitive, physical and social/emotional growth. Students are introduced to literacy, math, science and social studies concepts through hands-on activities. Trained early childhood educators undergo continual professional development to ensure best practices are being used in the classroom. Teachers utilize the center’s method of small-group instruction and the curriculum is based on the Illinois Early Learning Standards. Our Preschool Programs are also licensed by DCFS.

In addition to Preschool half-day class, students who are 3 years old have the opportunity to participate in once-weekly, 45-minutes swim lessons taught by instructors in our Aquatics Department, or gymnastics/sports classes.

Preschool staff will transfer students to this coordinating program. Our half-day programs start the third week in August and run through the end of May. We offer a summer preschool program in the months of June, July and August. Our full-day preschool program runs 12 months.

Children who are not toilet trained in our half-day program need to have a parent/ guardian on site to change diapers.

Girls should wear a leotard, tights and pink ballet shoes.

Dance Jazz Jazz dance is a highly expressive form of dance that nurtures individuality while developing style and flair! This class starts off with an energetic warmup and moves to progressions of footwork and turns across the floor as well as various types of jumps and leaps. Class ends with a short center combination that will help to solidify the lessons of the day. Students should wear a leotard and tights or leggings and have black jazz shoes. This class is open to girls ages 6-12.
