week two newsletter
DESCRIPTION
We can't believe the week is over, we've had so much fun and we don't want it to end. From swimming to climbing at Arbraska and just hanging out with each other we never stop having fun and we are so excited for colour war next week!TRANSCRIPT
The Parasha of Pinchas starts with: “And Hashem spoke to Moshe saying: Pinchas ben Elazar ben Aharn Hakohen , turned my anger away from Bnei Yisrael…” (25.10-11)
At the end of last week’s Parasha, Pinchas comes forward to honour Hashem’s name and because of that the terrible plague that was happening in Bnei Yisrael’s camp stopped.
There are only five Parashiot in the Torah that have the name of a person, and each teaches us a very important lesson about that person. It is interesting that this week the Parasha is named Pinchas who was a very great tzadik while the Parasha right before this is called Balak, after the king of Moav who was not a very nice man. There has to be something significant that we can learn by comparing these two men.
When Balak sensed that the Jewish people were threatening his nation he didnt spring into action, but rather he hired other people (Bilam) to try and stop them, he did not take action himself.
On the opposite side; Pinchas was a doer. When there was a call for action, he immediately stepped in to do what had to be doen. He didnt wait for someone else to come along and try to do it for him, he felt responsible.
Pinchas personafied what Hillel teaches in Pirkei Avot; Perek Bet, Mishana Hey - “In a situation where there are no leaders, try to be a
leader.”
What another amazing week at Camp Ilan. The fun didn't stop this week, not even the
rain could bring us down. With our campers participating in cupcake wars, Camp Ilan’s annual All Star Game, an amazing trip to Arbraska, and
being visited by some amazing reptiles with Reptizoo, we just left everyday with a HUGE smile.
This week we focused on the theme of Jewish identity. We learned about some amazingly
important role models and heroes in Jewish history like Ilan Ramon and our parents. We talked
and learned with one another how important our Jewish identity is, no matter where we are, camp,
synagogue, or even the basketball court. I am looking forward to another fun packed week
at Camp Ilan. Shabbat Shalom - Zack Isakow
After two amazing weeks of Camp Ilan, we still managed to make every day unique and exciting in the Shorashim bunk! The campers had their very own scavenger hunt and special art project. We ran around different parks playing sports and splashing in the sprinklers with smiles on our faces. We finished off the week with a visit from snakes, turtles, and lizards, as well as free swim in the pool! We are all looking forward to the
next month of camp and can’t wait to see whats in store!!
