Peter Ferré’s ‘Magic 21’ Ways to Increase Customers

1. Have a customer goal and crystallise it in to morning, afternoon and evening goal periods 2. How many SD’s are you doing? Do more calls, speak slowly and use names to get to 20+ 3. Use the same introduction at every house - word for word, builds confidence 4. Ask temperature questions:

A. Aren’t these useful? B. Can you see why all the kids use ‘em? C. Wouldn’t it have been great to use some-

thing like this back when you were in school?

5. Have customer goal as an affirmation -"I always have 5 customers every day" 6. Write up 5 orders at breakfast 7. Close word for word 8. Have a customer competition with someone 9. Answer objections at least twice 10. Appointments for first and last thing 11. School information helps to connect - connections make sales. Set up shop:

A. Mascot B. Football team C. Teachers names and topics etc

12. Use their name all the way through the demo – how to do this effectively 13. Never stop after a sale 14. Read the handbooks at night - builds conviction 15. Ideas on emotional selling (not necessarily cheese) - the fact that Mrs J can’t help as much is an emotional point for her 16. Get everyone involved who’s home 17. Answer the husband objection in advance - if you find out in the intro that he really needs to be there, don’t be afraid to make an appointment & leave 18. Collect testimonials on the inside cover of your sample and use them 19. Collect referrals – and know how to work them 20. The best rapport is through names, and talking about the importance of ed-ucation. In other words use the introduction word for word! 21. Out loud affirmations/self talk all day long keeps our head in the ball game

E1 - Excellence & Execution

E1 - We set the standard: Higher, Faster, Stronger

1. Delivery percentage is higher for experienced people - you're experienced now. 2. You will know your sales talk better. 3. Since you know the importance of schedule, your schedule will be better. 4. Since you know more about people and human nature, the business you take will be better (i.e. more solid customers). 5. You will be more at ease with prospects, more relaxed. 6. Your goals will be higher because you will expect more of yourself. 7. You will be in a leadership position so you won't have time to think about yourself:

a. You will be helping out at Sunday meetings further developing your leadership skills. b. In the morning when you get out of bed, you will be thinking about your team. c. During the week, your people will keep you going. d. Competition is keener among student managers. This will keep you better moti-vated.

8. You don't have to start out with zero knowledge (i.e. you don't waste the first few weeks trying to figure out what to do—you know what Mrs. Jones is like!) 9. You will have all year to gain knowledge from your student manager and sales manag-er. 10. You will develop a personal relationship with your sales manager; therefore he/she can be more in tune with your needs.

11. You will become a better salesperson through recruiting. 12. You will learn from the mis-takes you made. 13. You will learn twice as much in sales school. 14. You will learn advanced sales techniques in sales school and be associated with the top salespeo-ple 15. You will learn advanced sales techniques at the fall seminar/awards banquet from top sales-people. 16. You will learn more from the production seminars in the spring. 17. You will be able to listen to various motivational speakers and sales trainers through CDs & MP3s your sales manager and student manager will have. 18. Your first summer you are paid in experience; your second summer you are paid in $ (i.e. now you can cash in on your experience). 19. You will learn how to sell intangibles and ideas through recruiting. If you can sell some-one on leaving the security of home and traveling a thousand miles to a place they have never been, to a type of work they have never done, you will definitely be able to sell a $500 set of books better. 20. You will be more mature and will run less on emotions. 21. You will greatly increase your product knowledge, thus having greater conviction about what you are selling. 22. You will be more aware of your personal weaknesses. Through the program, summer by summer, you can develop these weaknesses into strengths. 23. You'll know how to work your sales locality better. 24. You'll be more professional. You will be more of a salesperson, rather than an attention-starved visitor looking for warm fuzzies. 25. You’ll be better "suited" to your sales locality (we'll know what type of area you like to work and we can "tailor" you better to your area). 26. You'll do better next summer because you will take pre-approach. 27. You'll keep better records and remit more money. 28. You'll know how to use names more effectively. 29. You'll be teaching your rookies what you know and through this you will learn more yourself. 30. Company statistics show a 70% average increase in production for second year dealers – are you average?

Jeff Dobyns on Reaching

Your Personal Best

Dean Karnazes is a runner.

As you probably guessed from his Personal Best story,

not just any runner. An Extra Ultra-Marathoner.

An Ultramarathon is anything over the traditional 26.2

miles of a marathon, which can be up to total distances

of 150 miles.

An Extra Ultra-Marathon is when this distance is run, in-

credibly, non-stop without sleep.

In 2004 Dean Karnazes won the Badwater Ultramara-

thon in Death Valley, California – “The World’s Toughest

Footrace” – covering 135 miles in 120 ºF over 27 hours & 22

minutes of non-stop running.

To date Dean Karnazes’ longest run is the California Coastal Relay, covering

an astonishing 199 miles non-stop. The course is divided into thirty-six legs of

5.5 miles each, and is designed to be run as a relay by 12-person relay teams.

Karnazes ran ALL 36 legs non-stop on his own and then ran a marathon =

226.5 miles.

Reaching your Personal Best

When I left the office on Friday, I received backslaps and hoots of encouragement

from several co-workers, most of whom are aware of my other life. One minute I

was all business, discussing revenue forecasts and corporate strategy in my neatly

pressed Friday casuals. The next I was jamming out the door like a wired teenager,

psyched about the upcoming festivities.

At 8:00pm I pushed a button on my stopwatch and the mission was afoot, so to

speak. It started in the deep country by the little town of Calistoga in the north-

ernmost reaches of Napa Valley, California. The evening was cool. One guy tipped

his hat and said “howdy” as I passed; a lady sweeping her porch with a reed broom

stopped and smiled. They were friendly enough, though judging by the peculiar

looks I received it was clear I was being sized up: We know he’s not here to cause

trouble, but what, exactly, is he doing?

Page 35: Newsletter Week 11 2011

E1 - We set the standard: Higher, Faster, Stronger

By midnight I was weaving up a deserted road, wearing nothing more than a pair of

shorts and a sleeveless vest, a cell phone tucked in a pocket of my pack. It was now

several hours since last contact with humanity, and the night air was silent and

warm. I could see grapevines along my path and hear them rustle in the breeze.

But I wasn’t fully appreciating the view; I kept thinking about food.

The town of Petaluma in northern California has thrift stores, bowling alleys and

even though it isn’t a bustling metropolis, it does have a Round Table Pizza, one of

the greatest franchises on the planet.

Most pizza companies are not as flexible as Round Table. They have complicated

delivery rules and policies – picky little things like requiring you to provide a street

address in order to have a pizza delivered. Imagine that – you actually have to tell

them exactly where you are! Round Table, on the other hand, will deliver a pizza to

just about anywhere.

Cresting the peak and seeing my cell phone now had service, I dialed. The signal

was weak.

“Round Table,” a young voice answered. Loud rock music blared in the background.

“I need to order Hawaiian pizza, extra everything”

“Extra everything? What size?”

This was a tricky question. I didn’t have the means to carry uneaten portions, but if

I ordered too little, I’d run out of fuel and never reach Marin before sunrise.

“How many does large feed?”

“Five with everything extra. How many in your party?”

“Just me. I’ll take the large.”

“Cannonball dude! You must be operating on some kind of hunger.”

If only you knew, I thought. “ Do you have dessert?”

“Cherry cheesecake. It’s killer – I tasted some

earlier tonight.”

“Okay, I’ll have one.”

“One slice?”

“No, I want the whole damn thing.”

“Dude, this is EPIC!”

“How long do you think it’ll take?”

“Twenty, thirty minutes. You in some kind of

rush?”

“No rush, really, I’ll be out here a while. I just need to know how long so I can tell

you where to meet me.”

Page 36: Newsletter Week 11 2011

E1 - Excellence & Execution

E1 - We set the standard: Higher, Faster, Stronger

“Errr … okay … I guess. Let’s say twenty-five minutes.”

“Then I’ll meet you at the corner of Hwy 116 & Arnold

Drive.”

“What, right on the corner?” he asked. “That’s a pretty

lonely stretch of highway. What color’s your car?”

“I’m not in a car,” I said. “But I’ll be easy to spot. I’m

the only one out here running.”

“Running?” There was a brief moment of silence. “Is

somebody chasing you?”

“No” I laughed.

“But it’s midnight!” he said.

“Yes, it’s late that’s why I need pizza. I’m starving.”

“Got it.” Long pause. “Makes perfect sense.”

Exactly twenty-five minutes later, a dusty pickup truck with oversized tires came

barreling down the road. My pizza had arrived. To my surprise, the young manager

was behind the wheel.

“Dude!” he cried, jumping out of the truck. “You’re mad. This is awesome! You

gonna keep running? Don’t you want a ride?”

“Now that I have pizza,” I said, holding up the food, “I’m going to put it to good

use.”

“But how far are you gonna go?”

“I’m headed to the beach,” I said.

“To the beach!” he cried. “But dude that’s like thirty miles to Bodega Bay!”

Actually I was headed to the beach in Santa Cruz – over 150 miles from here – but I

didn’t think either of us was prepared to face up to that reality.

“Where will you sleep?”

“I won’t”

“You’re running straight through the night? This is INSANE. I LOVE it!” He

jumped back in his truck. “I can’t wait to tell the guys back at the shop.” With that

he sped off.

Little did he know that I meant no sleep tomorrow night, either.

I run because long after my footprints fade away, maybe I will have inspired a few to

reject the easy path, hit the trails, put one foot in front of the other, and come to the

same conclusion I did: I run because it always takes me where I want to go. To the

places at the edges of my dreams. To be my personal best.

Three simple points; apply these every day this week to hit your Personal

Best:

1. Work long hours:

A. But you gotta work SMART = put yourself in front of more pro-

spects than ever before. Long hours alone don’t do it; working

SMART for long hours really does

B. It takes:

- All goal period to have a good goal period

- All day to have a good day

- All week to have a good week

2. Manage your attitude:

A. Stay calm; don’t get mad when they don’t buy

B. Your face & body language should look the same coming out of the

house whether they bought or not

3. Do the little things:

A. Whoever does the most little things consistently right, wins

B. Little daily victories:

- Get a testimonial from all the teachers you meet

- Get referrals from each of your customers

- Make 3 appointments for before 8:30am and 3 for after

8:30pm

- Involve everyone in your demo = be interested, ask Qs, listen

& remember what they say so you can use

it in your demo!!!

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Your mind transcends limitations; your consciousness expands in every direction; and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive; and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far, than you ever dreamed yourself to be.” Pantajali (Second Century B.C. philosopher)
