2. Writing task

What is an information sheet?

Why would someone read an

information sheet?

Who writes information sheets?

An information sheet is written by

someone who is an expert on a topic.

They write an information sheet so that

other people can learn about that topic.

This term, you have become experts on

castles. Tomorrow you are going to

write an information sheet to share

your knowledge.

First, you need to plan your

information sheet by organising all of

your ideas. That is today’s task and you

need to use the skill of writing notes.

I would like you to pick 4 areas of your learning about

castles and knights to write about. These will be your

subheadings. For example:

parts of a castle medieval banquets

being a knight people who lived in a castle

Now you need to make notes to organise what

you know. It’s very important that you don’t

write long sentences today because that will

distract you from the main task which is to

organise information.

Instead you are going to write words and

phrases around your sub-heading. Like this:

entertainment from

bread, pies, cheese and

meat

music and dancing

medieval banquets

First, write down everything you

know. When you run out of

ideas, it’s time to do some

research. Look at the links in the

“Useful links” section on the

blog to find some things to read

about castles. When you read an

interesting fact, you need to ask

yourself two questions:

1) How can I say this in just a

few words?

2) Which sub-heading does this

fit under?

Once you’ve decided, add your

new knowledge to your plan!

You could draw some

pictures too!

Well done! How did you get on today?
