Meditation ClassDeadline: March 3

Namaste students! Are classes, social life, and work stressing you out? Take a break and meditate! You will develop mental clarity and discipline that will help you focus and improve concentration (great skills when it comes to studying!) Lunthita Duthely, a follower of the teachings of Sri Chinmoy, will guide and instruct participants through the meditation. We will make Ghee (clarified butter), Garam Masala (toasted whole spice blend), Naan (flatbread) and Indian Beef and Spinach Curry, Bombay Chicken and Rice, Spiced Kale & Chickpeas, and Annam-Kobbari Parvanam (rice and coconut kheer/pudding). Cauliflower with Ginger Cashew Onion Sauce elevates the humble cruciferous cauliflower to an Indian main dish star. Dhal Bat Burgers is a quick, weeknight dish combining lentils, rice and spices and is a great way to use up leftovers as well. COSO Committee Applications for 2011-2012 School Year are NOW available! The Committee on Student Organizations COSO is responsible for reviewing and making decisions on registration applications for new student organizations; registering existing student organizations on a yearly basis; providing, developing, and improving services and resources for student organizations; monitoring student organizations; reviewing and enforcing policies and procedures related to student organizations; resolving conflict within or between student organizations; coordinating the fall and spring involvement fairs; coordinating the monthly Student Organization of the Month awards; and coordinating the end of the year Student Organization Achievement and Recognition (SOAR) Awards Ceremony. You can help our newest multicultural students learn about the University of Miami and become better acclimated to the campus community. Horizons takes place the day before New Student Orientation. Counselors will be responsible for interacting with new students and their families. Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program Deadline: March 1, 2011

The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP), funded by the Freeman Foundation and administered by the Institute of International Education, aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia. IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization. The 9-week experience, from June 15 to August 13, 2011, arranged by IIE’s partner organization, the Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF), will take place in three cities: Bandung, Malang and Yogyakarta. All program-related costs will be covered. Interested American and Indonesian sophomores and juniors enrolled in U.S. institutions are encouraged to apply, using the online application at http://www.iie.org/programs/finip . The Minority Students in Health Careers Motivation Program Deadline: March 8th

The Minority Students in Health Careers Motivation Program (MSHCMP) aims to build diversity in the health and allied health pro¬fessions, especially medicine, by providing students from underrepre¬sented backgrounds an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to successfully compete for admission to schools in these fields designed to be a mini first-semester medical education experience, this full-time, seven-week residential program exposes participants to classroom instruction in select basic science courses in the medical education curriculum and offers physician-shadowing opportunities. Great attention is placed on identifying and removing any barriers that may prevent a participant from being a competitive medical school applicant. Workshops develop skills for preparing strong admissions and financial aid applications. Each participant leaves the program with a realistic appraisal of his or her readiness for medical school. ELIGIBILITY:The program is open to college juniors or seniors, as well as recent college graduates, who aspire to apply to health profession schools, especially medicine. Applicants must have had organic chemistry in order to handle the course material. The admission committee chooses the top 25 students who demonstrate that they will benefit from participation and are likely to be competitive applicants for medical school. Other criteria include: Citizen or permanent resident of the United States Must be one of the following: – African American/Black – Hispanic/Latino – Multi-ethnic Must also be one of the following: – Matriculating student who has completed at least two years of undergraduate science or premed training – Recent science or premed graduate (post-baccalaureate) – Matriculating unclassified graduate student in science or in pre-health profession education Minimum science and cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 systemApplicants should request an application from the Office of Academic Enhancement. Fulbright Grants for Summer 2011 Programs in the UK Deadline: April 15

Spend Summer 2011 in the UK!The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers three Special Summer Programmes for US citizens to come to the UK. These summer programmes provide the opportunity for US undergraduates (aged over 18), who have completed no more than two years of university study, to come to the UK on a four, five or six week academic and cultural summer programme. Participants in these programmes will get the opportunity to experience an exciting academic programme at a highly regarded UK University, explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK and develop their academic ability by improving presentation, research and communication skills.There are three Summer Programmes available for US students in 2011;•Fulbright Commission Newcastle University Summer Institute •Fulbright Commission Roehampton University London Summer Institute •Fulbright Commission Wales Summer Institute Note: The program is open to students in all courses of study. The majority of the participant costs will be covered. CAPAL Summer InternshipCAPAL is still recruiting for our summer internship program and two scholarships available for those who will be serving unpaid internships in DC this summer! Each summer, the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) places over 10 summer interns in the U.S. Federal Government. These internship positions are open to ALL MAJORS, and are suited for individuals looking to gain real-world federal government experience. CAPAL has partnerships with Federal Agencies including Agricultural Research Service, Forest Service, and Rural Development.Each CAPAL intern will be awarded a $2,000 stipend to support the successful completion of their internship. Depending on interests and placement, duties could vary from policy or scientific research, project coordination and management, business, law, communication, and more. Applicants are asked to specify their preferences on the application, and those selected will be placed based on their interests and skills. Agricultural knowledge is not required.
