University of Miami Wynwood Project Space Presents Clarke F. DeCapite, Jr.

Incandescent: Smoke and Mirrors

CORAL GABLES, FL – (¬¬¬March 22, 2012) The University of Miami presents the Master of Fine Arts exhibition by Clark F. DeCapite, Jr., beginning April 14, 2012. Incandescent: Smoke and Mirrors is an exhi-bition that makes reference to understanding of the self by tracing its origins to our daily experiences. Through the use of utilitarian objects such as light bulbs, mirrors and crate structures, self-states are mapped out metaphorically. In considering the roles that environment, society, time and memory play within the creation of personal identities, the artist speaks of the common experiences and fears that mold people into the individuals that they were, are and will be.

Upon receiving his B.F.A. in crafts, with a concentration in glass, from Kent State University in Ohio, DeCapite, a native of Cleveland, moved to Miami to pursue an M.F.A. in sculpture at the University of Miami. For-mally trained in glass working, the artist’s current body of work openly crosses material lines and technical borders.

Incandescent: Smoke and Mirrors will be on view from April 14 – 27, 2012, at UM’s Wynwood Project Space - 2200A NW 2nd Avenue. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 2pm to 9pm.

A full schedule of exhibitions can be viewed at www.as.miami.edu/art . For more information about the exhibition or Wynwood Project Space, call (305) 284-3161 or email [email protected]. Images are avail-able upon request.

SOUTH FLORIDA WORKFORCE AND THE MIAMI-DADE EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCE SUMMER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

(MIAMI, March 12, 2012) – South Florida Workforce today announced the opening of registration for the Career Pathway Compact Sum-mer Employment Program, created to provide young adults from low-income families the opportunity to enhance their work-readiness skills while also earning summer income. The program is part of the Miami-Dade Education Partnership unveiled by Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez during his February 28, 2012 State of the County Address.

The eight to ten week education internship program will provide participants with entry-level positions within governmental agencies, lo-cal businesses, and community-based non-profit organizations. Program selection will be done by lottery for candidates who have met all program requirements. “Connecting our students to our partners in the private and non-profit sectors is key to growing jobs and to keeping our most tal-ented students from leaving our community for career opportunities elsewhere,” said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Enhancing the work-readiness skills of our young adults through special programs like the one created by South Florida Workforce is critical to the continued economic growth of our community,” he added.

Miami-Dade County, in conjunction with South Florida Workforce, is making $1.5 million dollars available for the program. “We appreciate the support from the County and Mayor Gimenez,” said Rick Beasley, Executive Director of South Florida Workforce. “This program will provide college age students from our disadvantaged communities with an invaluable opportunity to participate in paid internships with local business this summer, and in the process become better equipped for future job opportunities,” he added.

For more information or to register for the program, please visit: http://www.southfloridaworkforce.com/w/youthSummer2012.html About South Florida WorkforceThe South Florida Workforce delivery system provides high quality, customized employment and training solutions to workers and employ-ers in support of economic development in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
