lykskouing afgehandel is, maar dat hullenog nie kan bevestig of Mare verkrag is nie.

teen De Jager. Die bewering hou verbandmet ’n voorval in Atlantis in 2008, waarin ’njong vrou van Ravensmead vermoor is.Die saak is teruggetrek as gevolg van ’n

tekort aan getuienisse, maar volgens ’n poli-siewoordvoerder is die getuienis nou opge-spoor en sal hulle dié week dagvaardingsontvang.

Viering van polisie se dagOp Sondag 27 Januarie vier polisiemannereg oor die land Nasionale Polisiedag.

Dié dag gedenk die opofferings wat onsmanne en vroue in blou gemaak het ensteeds maak in hul pogings om almal watin Suid-Afrika woon, te beveilig.

Die polisie huldig dié lede wat waardig-heid verleen aan die blou uniform enbetoon veral eer aan die dapperheid vandaardie lede wat hul lewens verloor hetin die uitvoering van hul pligte.

Sedert die eerste Nasionale Polisiedagop 27 Januarie 2005, het die polisie, saammet verskillende gemeenskappe, hierdiedag gevier. By die Kraaifontein-polisiegaan almal ligblou hemde dra.

Straatontwerp gefinaliseerDESIREÉ RORKE

Agtien jaar ná die oorspronklike konsepbe-planning vir die verlenging van Brackenfell-boulevard, is die finale ontwerp nou afge-handel.

Die voorlopige ontwerp van die verlen-ging wat Brackenfell met Durbanville salverbind net duskant die Glengarry-winkel-sentrum, is reeds in 2002 voltooi.

Die detailontwerp daarvan is verlede jaargedoen.

Volgens die direkteur van paaie en storm-water vir die Stad Kaapstad, Henry de Ples-sis, is die tenderproses al voltooi, en het dieStad verlede jaar goeie vordering gemaakmet onderhandelinge om die grond vir diepadreserwe van die eienaar te verkry. Diegrond is geleë op grond wat voorheen virlandbou gebruik is.

“Die departement hoop om in Maart van-jaar na die raad te gaan om formele goedkeu-ring vir die aanskaffing van die grond te ver-kry,” sê hy.

“Sodra die grondverkrygingsproses afge-handel is, kan die projek voortgaan en be-hoort daar duideliker teikendatums vir dieimplementering van die projek te wees,”voeg hy by.

Du Plessis sê dat die verlenging ’n belang-rike skakel is om die padnetwerk in die om-gewing te voltooi en verkeersverspreidingaansienlik sal verbeter.

Die projek sal die belastingbetaler onge-veer R11 miljoen kos en 12 maande neem omte voltooi.

Ark refuge grateful for Moonshadows showJANA BEKKER

The Ark City of Refuge is the main benefici-ary of a fundraising show that was held atthe Willowbridge Barnyard Theatre overthe weekend.

The Ark is a charity organisation that as-sists those who are homeless, unemployedand destitute in the Western Cape.

This fundraiser was presented by the PKFFoundation, the social investment branch ofPKF chartered accountants and business ad-visers, which supports individuals andgroups in need of assistance. The companyis based in Long Street, Cape Town.

The PKF Foundation will donate the pro-ceeds of the evening to the South AfricanHousing Foundation (SAHF), who will attheir discretion donate the largest portion ofthe money to The Ark.

Liza Burger, Human Resources managerat PKF, said one of the foundation’s projectsis financially supporting a boy at The Ark.

“We pay his school fees, pocket money,books and transport, among other fees.”

Billy Nield, managing director of PKF,

said one of the values at PKF is building rela-tionships.

“The PKF Foundation is funded with fund-raisers such as this,” he said.

Since the in-ception of TheArk, some35 000 peoplehave walkedthrough theirgates in need ofhelp. Currentlyabout 800 peopleare assisted on-site.

Three bust with guns, ammoThree men were arrested and illegalfirearms and ammunition confiscated inBloekombos last week.

After receiving information, membersof the Kraaifontein police searched three

houses and recovered a pistol and a .38special revolver and 23 rounds of ammu-nition. Three men aged 23, 25 and 52were arrested and appeared in the KuilsRiver Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.

Tygerberg Hospital is one of eight facili-ties identified for a call centre pilotproject, which has proved to be highly suc-cessful in recent months.

The Western Cape Government Healthcall centre has been available for patientcomplaints for five months and will rollout to all health facilities in the metro dur-ing the 2013/2014 financial year.

Hélène Rossouw, spokesperson for The-uns Botha, Minister of Health: WesternCape Government, said an analysis of theaverage client showed that they prefer tomake a phone call when logging a com-plaint or giving a compliment.

“The number of calls are far in the ma-jority, compared to text messages oremails,” she says.

In the five month period, 594 complaintswere logged.

In total, during this period, 594 querieswere raised of which 578 were resolved,that is 97 %. The majority of complaintsare resolved within five days.

Overall, the majority of complaints thatexceed all other complaints are aboutwaiting times.

The second most common complaintwas about the attitude of hospital staff to-wards patients.

“This is exactly the value of the com-plaints line. It enables the department toidentify the facilities that face the mostchallenges. Now we can target our re-sources towards specific problems,” saysMinister Botha.

Botha added the success of the pilot hasproven they can roll out the call centre toservice all facilities across the whole prov-ince.

Each financial year another district willbe added to the service with the aim to of-fer the service to all patients across theprovince by 2018.

At present, the call centre is availablefor clients between 07:00 till 19:00 at the se-lected health facilities which form part ofthe pilot project.

The eight facilities identified for the pi-lot project are Tygerberg Hospital, Mitch-ell’s Plain Community Health Centre,Khayelitsha Site B Community HealthCentre, Retreat Community Health Cen-tre, Somerset Hospital, Helderberg Hospi-tal (Somerset West), Wesfleur Hospital(Atlantis) and TC Newman CommunityDay Centre (Paarl).V The call centre number is 0860 142 142. Sowat 84 behoeftige gr. 1-leerders in Kraai-fontein kon vanjaar hul skoolloopbaan vol-ledig toegerus aanpak, danksy SolidariteitHelpende Hand se skooltasprojek.

In die nasionale projek is daar sedert 2007al 12 500 tassies reg oor die land uitgedeel,met die Wes-Kaap wat vanjaar 377 skooltas-sies by 18 skole voorsien het.

At one point I said “Parowpolice station” and still therewas no answer. I gave thephone to my husband and thenthe call ended. I grew curiousand wanted to know who wascalling me. I went to inquire ifthe phoneccall could be traced,they said no and told me to put“identify call” on my phone orto go to the police station if Iwas threatened. On Saturdaymorning I received a phone callagain. But this time I didn’t sayhello. I just kept quiet. A fewminutes into the call the personstarted speaking. At first Icould not make out if theperson was English or Afri-kaans.I realised it was a Afrikaans

woman who’s voice was dis-guised, but badly. She asked meif I had a computer at homethen I remembered the articleand told her I know this is ascam and that it was in thenewspaper. gemaak om oor sy nuwe album, Hoe wys ’nman sy Hart, te praat.“Ek het 90 % van die album self geskryf,”

vertel Vaughan. Die album is ook self ver-vaardig.Hoe wys ’n man sy Hart kom drie jaar na

sy laaste album, Wie ek is, en Vaughan sêhy het in dié tyd nuwe musiek geskryf,maar ook sy vaardighede geslyp.“Al die beste werk wat ek kon doen in die

laaste drie jaar, is op die album,” sê hy.“Ek ‘love’ om romanties te wees,” sê

Vaughan, en dus is liefde die deurlopendetema van die album.Hy vertel baie van die liedjies gaan oor

watmans soms voel, maar as gevolg van diestigma, nie altyd hardop kan sê nie.“Ek het probeer om die album so eerlik

cond on 142 shots andDurbanville star KellyErasmus a shot further back on 143.From the outset the tournament was ex-

pected to be highly contested with eight ofthe top 10 juniors in the country competing.After Round 1, Mae Cornforth from Pot-

chefstroom CC (North West) led the field ontwo under par 68, with Bianca one shot be-hind. In third position, JiSun was level par70 and Kelly two shots behind on 72.With near perfect conditions, everything

was set up for an exciting second round inthe afternoon. After the front nine Biancawas level par for her second round, with JiS-un one shot behind and Kelly two shots be-hind. On the back nine, JiSun’s approachshot on the par 5, 12th hole cost her, whilstBianca cemented her lead with a birdie onthe par 4, 13th hole to finish the secondround on one under par 69 and allowing herto lift the trophy.JiSun finished the second round on two

over par to claim second place and also liftthe Prentice Cup – Best Gross 36 Holes – Clo-sed (WP), as the highest placedWestern Pro-vince player with a score of 142 (70,72). Thisfollows JiSun’s second place at the BolandJunior Championships earlier in the week.After a difficult first round Cara Gorlei

fromMilnerton GC had a level par 70 secondround to secure fifth position on 147 (77,70).

Next month Bloubergstrand will playhost to one of the most extreme kite-boarding events in the world.

The Red Bull King of the Air competitionis all about height and hang time and in aweek from now kiters from across the worldwill be counting on our Cape Doctor to pro-vide just that.The event started in 1999 and was held in

Hawaii in 2005 for the last timewhere DutchkiteboarderRubenLenten took thehonours.“Since the inception of this event in 1999,

the jumps became bigger and bigger,” saysLenten who competed against sports legendRobby Naish in the final in Hawaii.

It was a dream come true for the youngdaredevil who is continuously trackingstorms around the world, in search of thenext biggest ride.Since 2005 the King of the Air event has

taken a break but this year it is back in fullforce. Lenton along with 23 other top riderswill push themselves to the limits in searchof maximum fly time.The event will take place at Big Bay be-

tween 1 and 15 February depending onweather conditions.During this event 16 of the world’s best

kiteboarders who were invited by the KingOf The Air committee and eight wildcard

competitors who were chosen by sending intheir most extreme tricks, will battle it outfor honours.There is only one South African among

the invited kiters, Luke McGillewie.Lenten is surely one of the favourites to

take this year’s title.Despite the King of the Air competition

not being held for the last seven years, Lent-en has not been idle.The clip Ruben Lenten produced together

with Red Bull and Eyeforce shows his mostimportant goal in life: “fly hard”.“The clip was created when I had the idea

to capture my signature style of extreme

kiteboarding.“This is only possiblewhen the conditions

areperfect. In the clipwehavebeenmonitor-ing the wind forecasts at different spots toget the ultimate storm.“In South Africa and in the Netherlands
