Bronze Award Recipients

Each week, every Year 9 and 10 student is gauged against our school values by the teachers of English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and PE. Students who achieve the maximum possible marks for five weeks gain a Bronze Award. By gaining another five weeks of maximum values, students move from Bronze to Silver and so on.

The Manaakitanga awards indicate that these students are being consistently Respectful, Responsible and Caring - or in other words are showing Manaakitanga.

Debating Day 2020Rosehill debaters were finally in the hands of the masters. Two expert University of Auckland debaters - Zac Wong and Chenchen Huang listened to two classy debates - adjudicated, mentored, gave individual feedback, and coached us in “model” debating and “points of information.”

Everyone listening was blown away with Chenchen’s adjudication style and the clarity of insight into how the debate was “seen.” We learnt so much - thank you 10R1 - Nicole, Aaria, and Rowan - who successfully proposed banning home schools (thanks Dylan, Taylor, and Michael). Thank you Luke, Tremaine, and Caleb, and congrats to Owen, Richard, and Tyler who successfully opposed that we should support nationalism. Great feedback from the two coaches. The inaugural Debating Day 2020 - what an inspiring day.

What is Gateway? Gateway is available to senior secondary school students in Year 12 and 13 and is designed to give students structured work experience in jobs they are interested in.What does an employer need to do?You need to provide an environment that is appropriate for structured workplace learning, and need to ensure that the welfare and interests of students are protected. You also need to provide a safe workplace environment. However, it is the school’s responsibility to provide safety clothing and equipment to the student during their placement, if they need it. Note that if a student has an accident while in the workplace it is classed by ACC as a NON-WORK accident as the work injury category only applies to paid employees. The Gateway Coordinator develops an individual training plan for each student outlining the learning and unit standards to be achieved in the workplace or at a training provider. The school is responsible for assessing your Gateway student’s learning. This may take place in the workplace or offsite at training facilities. Typically, a Gateway student would spend one day a week for ten weeks at your workplace, usually during term time. There are no costs to you as a Gateway employer. How it works• Meet with Kim Mace, the Gateway Co-ordinator to discuss a potential placement. She will then arrange to bring the student to meet you and together you’ll decide when the placement will start.• Work with the school to develop a learning plan that provides the student with real learning experiences within your business or organisation. • The student’s learning will need to be assessed. This can be done by one of your staff if they’ve been approved to do it or an assessor will visit your workplace. The student may take part in short courses assessed by independent ITOs offsite.
