NZ Secondary School Swimming Champion-shipsWell done to our swimming team that competed in the NZ Secondary School Championships last week in Hamilton. The team was Caitlin Lucie-Smith, Georgia Ackroyd, Kiana Lawton, Ben Masters, Cody Shaw and Craig Cameron. 145 schools participated, comprising of 559 swimmers, swimming over 3 days.

Every swimmer achieved personal best times, with Caitlin and Ben gaining points for Rosehill, as both swimmers got three ‘top 8 placings’ each. The highest placings were Caitlin 4th in the 200m breaststroke and Ben 5th in the same event. The medley relay team finished in a very creditable 7th place.

Many thanks to the parents that did timekeeping, the coach from the Papakura Swimming Club who volunteered his time and to all the parents that travelled down to support the team.

It was a great team to take away and they represented Rosehill College with enthusiasm and pride.

Football GirlsThe Tonga U17’s national girl’s football team is heading to McLennan Park on Tuesday 22nd September to face off against Rosehill’s 1st XI Football Girls. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our girls to test their skills and to finish off the season with an exciting game against an experienced team. The game will kick off at 6pm and it will be an awesome game to watch and support, if you are in the area head along to cheer for our girls.

Papakura Sports AwardsCongratulations to Zeon McNabb, Amelia Marlow, Brookelyn Varney, Alexa Kennedy and Courtney Church who were finalists at the Papakura sports awards on Sunday. Alexa Kennedy was awarded Junior Sportswoman of the year for her impressive achievements in Trampoline on the world stage. It was great to see that Rosehill had a great representation at an elite level and all of these students should be proud of their achievements.

Basketball Development ProgrammeNow that the basketball season is over, two of our fantastic coaches have offered Rosehill and our students a wonderful opportunity to develop the sport and skills in our school. Rosehill’s first basketball development programme will begin in term 4 and will be held in the sports centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, 3.45pm- 4.45pm. The programme is open to any students- beginners or experienced - wanting to give the sport a go or further enhance their basic fundamentals of the game. The programme will run for 8 weeks, beginning in week 1 of term. In week 3 the coaches will introduce a mini league where players will be put into teams for everyone to play and put their skills to the test.

To sign up, or for any further information, students will need to visit Miss Skidmore or Miss Humphreys in the sports office.
