Yesterday we emailed parents and caregivers that the PPTA have given noce that PPTA members will not be teaching Year 9 students next Tuesday 4 June, the day aſter Queen’s Birthday, as part of a rostering home acon. As non-PPTA members will be fully involved in their own teaching programmes, we cannot guarantee supervision for any Year 9 students who aend school on Tuesday. This poses a Health and Safety issue for those students if we cannot provide supervision. PPTA have advised they will not be teaching year levels on a rostered basis as follows: Year 9 Tuesday 4 June Year 10 Tuesday 11 June Year 11 Tuesday 25 June Year 12 Tuesday 2 July A regional strike is planned for Auckland schools on Monday 17 June. If this goes ahead, Rosehill College will be open, although normal lessons will not take place and students would be assigned to groups to be in supervised in study for the day. Any updates will be published on the front page of the website as soon as we receive them. Thank you to those who took the opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet the candidates for the Board of Trustees elecons.   • July School Holiday Masterclass & Workshops at Unitec

    In addition to the School holiday workshops, we are also offering Screen Masterclasses at the Mt Albert Campus. The bookings for the July Masterclasses close on June 21st so we wanted to make sure we gave you a heads up. They are designed for Year 13 students and are being offered in July and a repeat is being offered in October.

    The screen masterclasses include Script writing, Camera and Editing sessions. Students can choose to go to one or all of the sessions. Each of the masterclasses will require a minimum of 5 attendees and placement will be by selection

    July School Holiday WorkshopsSchool Holiday workshops are for Year 11, 12 or 13 secondary school students. There are 15 on offer during the July School Holidays at the Mt Albert Campus. The Social Media Marketing workshop has recently been added to the list, and due to popular demand we've brought back Drawing for Character this July.

    Building Stuff, 8th - 10th July (9am - 3pm)Carpentry and concrete projects to take home

    Personal Training and the Gym environment, 8th July (9am - 3pm)Learn about nutrition for personal trainers and health. Explore the different jobs within the exercise industry. Practice ancestral movement and exercise using elements of Poi, Mau rākau and Te Reo Māori.

    Social Media Marketing, 8th - 11th July (10am - 3pm)Students will get an overview of Social Media Marketing, including topics such as social media strategy, social listening and moderating, social content, extending your reach, measuring return on investment and more!

    Cars and Welding, 9th July (9am - 3pm)Work on TEngines, wire up automotive circuits, get your head around diagnostics, learn how to charge systems and batteries, and have a go on a virtual welder.

    Intro to Early Childhood Practice, 9th July (9am - 3pm)Explore teaching techniques for our early learners in this 'hands-on' workshop where participants will engage with early childhood resources.

    ULead, 9th July (9am - 3pm)You'll get an understanding of your own leadership potential, begin building your own skill framework and development areas, develop your connection skills, and get a broad understanding of ways to lead. Build skills that are transferable across careers and across life.

    Lighting//Basic Rigging, 9th July (9.30am - 4pm)Get hands-on experience in a professional environment and use industry-standard gear. Bring your own laptop, in order for you to use free software so that you can rig, programme and operate a brief theatrical lighting show on a real lighting rig.

    Screen Bites, 9th July (1.30pm - 5pm)This is an introduction to the Film and Television course within Performing and Screen Arts – “SCREEN ARTS”. Students will get insight into our film making course, and a taste of the skills required to work in the film and TV industry.

    Drawing for Character, 10th July (9.00am -3pm)This course will focus on exploring figure drawing for illustration, animation, and graphic novels. Learning to draw the human figure and develop characters based on the human figure. This will enable students to construct their own characters and place these in action poses for animation or static images.

    Lighting//Moving Lights, 10th July (9.30am - 4pm)You’ll explore and programme a range of modern lighting fixtures and present a brief show with the help of our expert tutors.

    Election 2019Nominations have closed for the Board elections and you may well have now received your voting papers or will do so very soon. Consider voting early so this important task is not forgotten. Voting closes at noon on Friday 7th June.

    It is satisfying that 11 members of the school community have put their names forward for election to the Rosehill College Board and I thank them being prepared to serve their community in this governance role.

    Some of our board members are retiring from the board at the expiry of this 3 year term and I thank them for their contribution, support and many hours of consideration of governance matters affecting the school. A task willingly undertaken for our students and community.

    Following your voting and the counting of votes the newly elected board will take office from 14th June.

    Next week Rosehill is hosting NZQA's touring exhibition Top Art which is a collection of some of the top Visual Arts folios from 2018. The collection includes folios from Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Design and Sculpture. This year the collection includes Rosehill College student Tyla Buckman's Printmaking folio. The exhibition will be held in the Art Department foyer and is open from Tuesday 10am until Friday 10am.

    The Rosehill Maori whanau group (Te Roopu Awhina) would like to invite you to a whanau hui on Wednesday 5th June at Rosehill College.The kaupapa for our hui is whanaungatanga, an opportunity to gather to share a kai, to meet our Maori Student Leaders and Staff, and to discuss how we can work alongside the College to improve the education experience for our Maori students (and whanau).

  • Fantastic Beasts and how to mind them, 10th July (10am - 2pm)You’ll get to learn about and interact with some of the animals in our animal unit (Te Puna Kararehe). You’ll also work with gels in the research lab and be taught in Natural history.

    Sound Engineering//how to design sound for theatre, 11th July (9.30am - 4pm)Get hands-on experience designing, programming and playing out a theatrical soundscape using industry-standard software.

    Coding for Swift, 9th and 11th July (9am - 2pm)By the end of the workshop, students will be able to control Apples' Dancing Robot using the iPad and Swift playground.

    Coding for Python, 18th and 16th July (9am - 2pm)By the end of the workshop, students will be able to control a Gopigo3 robot using the Python programming language.

    Introduction to Professional Acting training, 19th July (9.30am - 4.30pm)We are excited to offer a full-day audition workshop. This workshop focuses on teaching practical techniques to prepare an audition and discussing the pathway of becoming a professional actor.

    Gym Sports

    Paris Boyce-Bacon was awarded the Junior Coach of Year award at the Counties Manukau Franklin sports awards held on Sunday night. She was also a finalist in the Under 16 sportswomen of the year catergory.

    Paris Coaches 3 recreational gymnastics and tumbling classes 4 times a week for 3 hours a class at Counties Manukau Gymnastics club. Paris Has taken high numbers of athletes to multiple competitions across Auckland. Her athletes displayed improvement in their skills as well as their scores at every competition. Multiple athletes received gold medal averages as well as individual and team overall medals/placements. Paris had some of her recreational gymnasts move into the competitive gymnastics programme for the following gymnastics season as well as the recreation extension programme. On Saturdays, Paris coaches 4-6 year olds for toddler and early stage gymnastics classes for 2 hours. Paris also regularly runs birthday parties and the open gym at Bruce Pulman Park CountiesManukau Gymnastics. Paris was awarded the most improved coach award at the 2018 Bruce Pulman Park Counties Manukau Gymnastics Coaching Awards and subsequently has been given her own competitive group for the 2019 gymnastics season. Paris has been coaching for 18 months and to be given a competitive group this early is a sign of Paris's coaching skills and ability. Paris has also been attending a 2 year coaching course in order to improve herself as a coach. Paris is also training to be a competitive gymnastics judge. This year, Paris will coach the Rosehill cheer team for the second year. In 2018, Paris had the first cheer team at Rosehill to compete in 4 years. Paris also hopes to get Rosehill's first gymnastics and aerobics team for the 2019 season. With all of Paris' coaching hours combined, she coaches a total of 15 hours on average a week. Congratulations Paris!

    Hockey 1st XI Girls

    Our third game of the season and we managed to come away with a 4-nil win against Tuakau. Although a few of the girls were tired and injured we managed to push through to get the win. The girls played a great first half scoring 3 goals and then continuing on to score another goal in the second half. The girls should be proud of themselves, they played hard and are continuing to train and better themselves for our up coming game against Pukekohe next week.

    Basketball Open Girls

    The open girls won on Tuesday 56-29The open girls basketball team played Aorere College this week. The ladies started strong and were up 20 - 4 at the end of the first quarter. They keeped the pressure on and came away with the win 56-29 Great result keep up the hard work.
