Principal’s
Message
Parent teacher afternoon/evening was well attended
on Tuesday and I thank those parents that were able to
attend. I would be disappointed if parents came away
from the evening shocked or angry because of new
information about their child as our processes should
keep parents reasonably well informed. Parent teacher
evening however, still provides another important
opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and plan
for the future. When I was a child the ferocity of the
slam of the door when my mother returned from
parent teacher night was always an indication of how
fast and far to run, but schools now are more
proactive in contacting parents and early intervention
is promoted. This week is again very full for both staff and students.
Year 11 exam week starts, Future Moves, Big Gig
practice continues, 4t’s sport in Tullamore, Great
Escape car rally raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis,
supported Playgroup, VET audit and WAP Graduation
Dinner. Primary students will have the opportunity to
view the rally cars and take part in any activities if
appropriate. Teachers will walk their classes down to
the pub corner and back to school. WAP Graduation Dinner is another life marker for
both students and parents. Even after 23 years of
incarceration with the Department of Education I still
get a sense of pride when attending end of Year 12
events. I am particularly proud of this current group of
students because they have grown enormously both
academically and in terms of maturity since the start of
the year. The challenge for this group now is to finish
strong. Not every child receives a Higher School
Certificate so finishing is still an enormous
achievement. In other recent great news, one of our Year 12
students has already been offered an apprenticeship. I
am very proud of this student because I believe
working with your hands has just as much status and
credibility as pursuing academic qualifications. Indeed,
there are many highly qualified university graduates
lining up at the dole office. I want to instil a culture in
students that it does not matter what career you
pursue but be the best you can at it and be proud. The
value of a person is not dictated by the size of their
bank account. Last year every Year 12 graduate either
received an apprenticeship, fulltime work or a
University offer. This is the challenge for the current
group of students. In another great piece of news Trundle Central School
has been successful in receiving a grant for 10 Arduino
Esplora boards worth 850 dollars. These will help
develop computer programming skills and knowledge
of how students can interface with computers. The
technology available at Trundle Central School is as
good as or better than any mainstream school in the
state, allowing us to develop students capable on
interacting in the current information driven society.
Obviously Mr Lynn told me what these boards are
capable of and wrote the phrase ‘interface with
computers’ as I have little idea what this means. Many students and staff have suffered illness this term
compounding the levels of tiredness and stress across
the school. I thank students and staff for their
continued effort and professionalism in often difficult
circumstances. Teachers are one group in the
workforce that is particularly susceptible to illness
because of close contact with little bacteria factories,
commonly referred to as children. Parents and carers can help us by encouraging your
children to wash their hands, faces and clothes
regularly. Yes it is possible for older children to place
clothes into a washing machine and press start. The
minister has even taught me and she is looking forward
to the next leap year. Give children a computer game
they will soon work out how it functions but the
washing machine and vacuum cleaner are way too
complex. I try not to come across as lecturing people
but I feel it is my job to protect children. Some
children come to school with extremely dirty hands
and faces and sometimes clothes. This is a perfect
breeding ground for illness. I am asking for collective
community responsibility especially when illness is
common. The amount of illness in the school this year
has affected school budget and children’s learning. The warm weather is just around the corner so it is
time parents have the hygiene talk with their children.
Last week I walked into a classroom of boys and it
smelt like there was a dead camel in the corner.
Teachers do not get paid danger money so if you could
provide older students with deodorant, roll on only
please as aerosol cans are banned in schools. This year we have changed our transition to
Kindergarten and into secondary program. This
extended program will allow students to understand
school routines, get to know their teachers, familiarise
themselves with the variety of technology available at
school and develop friendships.

Kinder students will also be introduced to their Big
Buddy for 2016. This Year 6 student will make their
start to school easier and mentor them through the
challenges of big school. Our Kindergarten program
will also allow our experienced Kindergarten teacher to
observe and assess the school readiness of the children
and start to plan for 2016. Both transition programs
have a strong emphasis on early intervention for
children and acknowledge that students and families
bring a variety of strengths to a school. Transition is
essential to develop connected students. These
students through the linkages and skills developed
through transition enter school with the foundations of
learning, helping them to quickly achieve their potential.
Complementing our transition program is supported
playgroup. Playgroup builds foundation skills that allow
students to interact positively with peers, develop gross
and fine motor skills and other essential school skills. I
hope this is a success but only the community can
determine this. There is no charge for this playgroup.
Another strategy introduced to the school is THINK.
This is very simple before you speak or write:
T = Is it true?
H = Is it helpful?
I = Is it inspiring?
N = Is it necessary?
K = Is it kind?
This strategy is to encourage more positive interactions
between students. Maybe this could become a town
wide strategy to improve interactions between people.
Certainly free up some Facebook space.
Our vegetable garden and orchard was planted this
week. This project is an effort to provide fresh produce
for our kitchen and to offer to the community for a
small donation towards the cost of water. The amount
of vegetable seeds donated to the school was
outstanding. Thank you Trundle. Many students react
the same way to a vegetable as you do to a black snake
but I believe increased availability will break down these
fears. This garden is possible because of the use of the
Police paddock. I again thank the police for thinking
outside the bureaucratic square and allowing us to use
vacant land. We are increasing the scale of planting
because of the moisture available at present. Better to
be optimistic then hungry. If this is El nino, I will not be
selling my raincoat. In many ways the world has gone crazy. Jared Hayne is
successful in the NFL, a few footballers take some yippy
beans to increase performance and it is in the
mainstream media for weeks, even front page of some
papers. Europe is facing the biggest humanitarian crisis
since the end of the Second World War and it hardly
makes the paper. Imagine if Jared Hayne has holidaying
in Hungary, with his girlfriend who starred on Home
and Away was the daughter of a Syrian refugee and he
was caught with performance enhancing drugs sold to
him by a former child actor. We would have to get the
forklift from Ag & Vet to lift the paper. That is the last
free plug for Ag & Vet. Come on have you seen the
photo of cute kinder kids on aging play equipment?
Advertising in our newsletter is progressing well. A
huge thank you to Wendy O’bryan Turner, Owen John
Turner, Jo & Peter Coster, Terry & Lorna Charton, Bob
and Anne Mawbey for agreeing to advertise. There is
still plenty of space and the cut off date is next Friday.
Our newsletter is read I believe by more people in
Trundle than the Forbes and Parkes newspapers. I also
know of people across the district and country that
read our newsletter from our website. A whole years
advertising for 500 dollars! Try and negotiate that with
a main stream newspaper. The advertising money is to
be used for renewing our playground equipment. This
equipment is enormously expensive because of the
amount of standards it needs to meet to be in schools.
The current equipment is ageing and needs replacing. I
could put up with ageing equipment but I am sure the
Trundle Community expects me to at least try and have
the best possible facilities for children.
Bush Tucker weekend is over and sore heads are
starting to recover. The committee and many
volunteers led by Col Quade once again put on an
event for the community to Trundle to be proud of. I
would like to make special mention of Ronald Jones
Junior. Ronald works for many community organisations
and always puts in massive effort to make things
successful and does not receive the thanks that he
deserves on occasions. It does amaze me human nature
however. When I was on the gate I received a
complaint about the cost of a ticket. Where else would
you be able to have entertainment all day long and a
headline act that has received many golden guitars for
thirty dollars. A packet of cancer sticks is over thirty
dollars and a carton of giggle juice 50 dollars. The
cheapest thing available in life is perspective I can sell it
to you for free.
I am on leave for Week 10 of this term and the first
week back. Mrs Sanderson will be in the lonely chair. I
am very confident the school is in very good hands for
these two weeks. Anyway JFK was replaced in a day I
am sure I could be replaced in a heartbeat.
Another great week in Trundle

Trundle Central School has been successful in receiving a grant for 10 Arduino Esplora boards
worth a total of $850. These boards will be used as part of the year 9 and 10 IST course. We will be
participating in a challenge to develop programing skills and knowledge of how we can interface with
computers. The program is being run by Sydney University and is government supported to enable us
to receive these boards.
The esplora boards are designed to look like a
games controller and can be programmed to
be used as such. They have an inbuilt
accelerometer, temperature sensor, RGB
LED, 4 button keypad, joystick, buzzer and
microphone. These boards allow a wide
range of interesting activities to be
undertaken in computer interfacing and
programing.
The performance schedule is as follows:
The students will need to come to school as per usual and will be walking down to the hall
after morning assembly.
We are also looking for donations of unwanted makeup and hair
spray. If you have any of these items, please hand them into the
front office.

Fruit & Veg Month 2015
24 August to 18 September This year’s Fruit & Veg Month theme is
‘Let’s Go Green!’
Fruit and Veg Month encourages children and parents
to try new fruits and vegetables
and healthy recipes.
K/1/2 Assembly What a fantastic assembly on Friday! It was great to
see such amazing things happening in our primary
classes. The Tiddalick play was fantastic. What great
directors Mrs Jones and Ms Downes are! Year 3/4
read some beautifully written dreaming stories and
Year 5 and 6 taught us some Japanese greetings, told
us their names in Japanese and sang a Japanese song.
Assemblies are a fantastic opportunity for the
students to showcase their talents in art, drama,
writing and music. If you haven’t been to an assembly,
please put the next one on your calendar. They are
worth attending!
Parent/Teacher Interviews Thank you to all the parents who came along to our
parent/teacher interviews on Tuesday afternoon. It is
a fantastic opportunity to discuss your child’s
progress and hear about all the achievements each
student has made throughout the year. If you were
unable to make it to these interviews and would like
to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers,
please call the school to arrange an appointment.

K/1/2/3 BIG GIG Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 will be
performing a dance at this year’s Big Gig. They will
need to wear black clothes. Would parents please
start to help your children to bring in their black
clothes (labelled with names please) and we will
keep them at school until
their performance on
Monday 14th September.

What’s been happening in Year 7/8?
Art:
Year 7/8 have been busy this term, producing some beautiful art work. The overall theme this term
has been Nature. All students printed an amazing etching of either a plant or an animal. A visiting Art
teacher made a comment that the quality of their work was as good as a senior students’ work. They
are now learning how to master water colour techniques and will produce a master piece during next
week.
Music:
If you’re wondering what band you have heard that has been touring our town lately, it’s our own 7/8
class band. The quality of their performances is even surprising me! A few students have taken to
learning the ukulele and doing really well. We have been playing Riptide by Vance Joy.
The students have also composed their own rap song and performed it. The criteria, was that they had
to use a kazoo, strings, drums and voice. These have been recorded and will be great to play back in
their senior years.
Next month on the 29th October at 12pm,a majority of our students will be singing the song Gold.
Over half a million students across Australia will also be singing this song. It is to promote the
importance of music in our everyday lives.
German:
Guten Tag. Wie heist du? The students have been blitzing German this year. Year 8 have been working
independently on the booklets and year 7 have progressed to the second stage of the programme. All
students have learnt about; numbers, where they live, favourite past times, how they are feeling,
colours and animals.

JOKE OF THE WEEK
"My name is Slither, and
before my tale is finished
you'll find out why."
The dark is full of terrifying
creatures. And Tom
Ward—the seventh son of a
seventh son, and the
Spook's last apprentice—
hasn't seen all of them. Far
from the county, one named
Slither has lived for
hundreds of years, hunting
blood.
But a dying father binds the
monster to a bargain. If
Slither will take his two
youngest daughters safely to
their family in the south,
then the eldest daughter,
Nessa, is his.
What do you do when your new
best buddy has been designated a
scourge by the community and
marked for imminent extermina-
tion? Just ask Kenny Rabbit. When
the simple folks in the sleepy little
village of Roundbrook catch wind
that there's a dragon running loose
in the countryside, they get the
wrong idea and the stage is set for
a fight to the death.
Crafty Cat has hatched a plan
to chase the other animals out
of the barn, but will it be a
runaway success or farmyard
folly?
