Open question to the group, determining understanding with responses written on whiteboard. Use Images in the PPT to guide group discussion Use slide 7 and discuss the family on the slide – all different colours, shapes and sizes. All Aboriginal people besides the tall white guy in the middle. Discuss perceptions and the impact on service delivery. Use slide 8 - read quote and reaffirm that being Aboriginal is not just fulfilling the stereotypical look of an Aboriginal.

Part A - Cultural Perspectives Allow 60 Minutes Introduce the Module

Perception Activity: Group discussion of individuals perceptions of Indigenous peoples i.e. look, social status, transients etc. The purpose if the activity is to highlight unconscious bias, and how it can affect our perceptions and therefore how we deliver services to Indigenous peoples. First ask group what they see in the Image on the slide (there are a number of images that can be recognised on the slide, including a man’s face, a woman reading a book and a turtle). See which ones they can identify and those they cannot. Discuss why they can see some and why they cannot see all (some may see all though). Ask group about their perceptions of Indigenous people, i.e. look, social status, transients etc. Use whiteboard or butchers paper to record.

Activity: Ask the group to consider what identity means to them and importantly what do they know about Indigenous people in your region, their place names, their language and tribal groups.
Activity: Construct Culture Using the white board/ butchers paper, ask the group to consider what elements make up Indigenous Culture. Record on white board and separate responses into Implicit (below the line) and Explicit (above the line) facets outside the circle edge.
