Celebrating The Second Half Centre!
The Second Half Centre
Members’ Newsletter Winter Term 2014
On Sunday 19th January The Second Half Centre welcomed
Maureen Lipman; national treasure, comedienne, actress, columnist
and author to entertain a sold out audience. She delighted the
standing room only crowd with her natural humour and brilliance,
regaling her adventures as well as offering some sound advice on
ageing. Maureen provided the third riveting instalment of our Evening
Lecture Series, following in the footsteps of Ruby Wax and Justin
Stebbing. We look forward to welcoming another esteemed guest
soon!

Celebrating
The Second Half Foundation at
The Mayor’s Parlour
By invitation of the Mayor of the Royal
Borough of Kensington and Chelsea; staff,
volunteers and supporters of The Second
Half Centre joined together in celebration
of its astounding achievements and a new
partnership with Open Age.
Over 70 guests attended the
prestigious event held in the Mayor’s
parlor giving members of both
organisations an opportunity to meet.
The Mayor offered congratulations for
the work The SHC has accomplished in
only 18 quick months, as well as Open
Age’s longevity.
Summer Term: Monday 28th April
to Friday 25th July
2014
On Friday the 28th of March over 200 members joined together
to celebrate the end of term with a host of performances by the
Drama and Theatre Club, as well as Bus Pass to Broadway.
Members tucked into the vast array of food and enjoyed a few
drinks, catching up and meeting new friends. Bus Pass to Broadway’s explosive rendition of Easter
Parade brought everyone to their feet and was a fantastic way to
bring another unforgettable term to a close at The SHC. We
can’t wait for the next term to begin!
Summer Term starts on Monday 28th April!
As of the 1st of April The Second Half Centre will be under the management of Open Age.
Our wonderful Centre Manager Jenny Marshall will once again be running the centre with the
help of our delightful volunteers . The Second Half Foundation kindly gifted resources and equip-
ment to Open Age, as well as providing ongoing funding for the SHC. Many new classes will be running at the centre along side the Second Half favourites.
Take a look at the back of the newsletter for what’s in-store for the year ahead! As we welcome new members to the SHC family we must thank the tireless efforts of
Founder and Chairman Jill Shaw Ruddock, Vice Chairman Michaela Rees Jones and
Treasurer Diane Herlinger for making all this possible. Thank you also to our dedicated
volunteers and teachers for making the centre such a success. We look forward to what the
future holds for The Second Half Centre!
