~In the School of Mary~ PAPAL DOCUMENTS
Condensed by Deacon Bill Wagner (Document of Vat II: Constitution on the Sacred
Liturgy: Promulgated by Pope Paul VI, December 4, 1963)
SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM
Chapter I GENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE RESTORATION
AND PROMOTION OF THE SACRED LITURGY 3. The Reform of the Sacred Liturgy D) Norms for Adapting the Liturgy to the Culture and Traditions of Peoples In some circumstances, a more radical adaptation is needed. This entails greater difficulties. Such adaptations as deemed necessary should be submitted to the Apostolic See. 4. Promotion of Liturgical Life in Diocese and Parish The Bishop is to be considered as the high priest of his flock. All should hold in great esteem the liturgical life of the diocese centered around the bishop. Because it is impossible for the bishop always and everywhere to preside over the whole flock in the Church, he establishes lesser groupings of the faithful. Among these, the parishes set up locally under a pastor, who takes the place of the bishop, are the most important. Therefore, the liturgical life of the parish and its relationship to the bishop must be fostered among the faithful and the clergy. A sense of community must be encouraged, especially in the common celebration of the Sunday Mass. 5. The Promotion of Pastoral-Liturgical Action Zeal for the promotion and restoration of the liturgy is rightly held to be a sign of the movement of the Holy Spirit in his Church. So that the pastoral-liturgical action may become even more vigorous in the Church, the sacred Council decrees: It is desirable that the competent territorial ecclesiastical authority set up a liturgical commission assisted by experts in liturgical science, art, and pastoral practice. The commission should be aided by some kind of institute for pastoral liturgy. The commission is to regulate pastoral-liturgical action throughout the territory. Every diocese is to have a commission on the sacred liturgy under the direction of the bishop for promoting the liturgical apostolate. Besides the commission on the sacred liturgy, every diocese, as far as possible, should have commissions for sacred music and sacred art. These three commissions must work in closest collaboration.
Chapter II THE MOST SACRED MYSTERY OF THE EUCHARIST
The Church earnestly desires that Christ’s faithful, when present at the mystery of faith, not be there as strangers or silent spectators. They need to take part in the sacred action, conscious of what they are doing. They should be instructed by God’s Word and nourished at the table of the Lord’s body.

We need more volunteers to help with sign-ins, ushering, and sanitizing for special liturgies – weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc. – as well as regularly-scheduled Masses. Liturgies take place at varying times on weekends and weekdays, and in a parish this size, there are events to meet anyone’s schedule. Whether you’re available once a month or five times a week, we want your help! Training will be provided, and Safe Environment training within the archdiocese is required (see below). If you are interested in helping our parish in this way, please find us on Flocknote or email [email protected] for more information. We look forward to working with you!

Brothers and Sisters: I would like to take this moment to let you know that I understand the emotional, physical, economic and spiritual toll that the outbreak of COVID-19 has taken on you, your family, your work and your friends. The social isolation that is expected of every one of us has added an extra burden. This enormous health care crisis continues to affect our local community, our nation and the world. In the days and weeks to come, I pray that your faith is a comfort to you. We have created a “Spiritual Resources and Prayers” page on our website for you to visit during this time at, https://www.archgh.org/resources/health-updates/spiritual-resources/. The pastors of your parish are continuing to pray for you and your family every day and you remain in their Mass intentions. Even though we cannot be together to worship and pray, I ask you to continue supporting your parish. They need your contributions to survive and be ready when the doors are open once again for us to worship together. In addition, support for our social services that serve the sick, the poor and the elderly is important. All of our parishes have been given the opportunity for a platform to accept online donations to help during this time. For more information, you may visit your parish’s individual website or https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give/parish-offertory-support/, which provides a means by which online donations can be made directly to parishes.
