Today we watched “The Boy in the Dress’, a short movie based on David Walliams novel of the

same name which has been our shared reading this term. Yesterday we welcomed Wild Rivers

Alliance schools for our Public Speaking Day. Both experiences have pushed the children out of

their comfort zones and challenged them. That is what we aim to do. Growing and learning re-

quires risk taking, new experiences and openness to change. To support our kids to be open

minded, flexible, resilient and to embrace life and learning is one of the many responsibilities we

have as educators.

It is also one of the most rewarding and invigorating aspects of teaching and leading. Today,

Phoebe stepped in to help our two youngest overcome an obstacle they were facing. She shared

her own experiences and how by actively changing her attitude she was now able to face new

challenges.

At that moment I smiled. At that moment Phoebe and I shared a smile which spoke of gratitude,

togetherness and understanding. It symbolized the spirit of Nowendoc PS, as does what you will

find in this newsletter. We’re a team, committed to helping each and every one of us get the most

out of the life we have been given. A 2% Mindset is where our vision lies.

It’s been another exhilarating term and we look forward to the next. May the holidays bring happi-

ness and joy. Keep smiling!

Miss MacIntosh Musings

Happy Birthday Miss MacIntosh

It is hard to believe that term two is already at an end. This term we have seen the stu-

dents achieve so much and grow in all aspects of their schooling with great success in

sporting, art and academic avenues.

The work of our Instructional Leader continues to inspire the school with new teaching and

learning ideas. Students have continued their hard work in ‘Seven Steps of Writing’ which

has allowed their imaginations to run wild and creativity to be placed in beautiful narra-

tives, which now line the walls of our school. ‘Number Talks’ have been a hit in Maths

raising a new and improved level of motivation. Students have been expanding their vo-

cabulary and training their brains to be able to solve maths problems using more than one

strategy.

Outside of the classroom students have been busy making our school beautiful with new

front fence decorations and more planning is underway. Winter vegies have been planted

and the kids are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ever popular Snow Peas!

As for me ‘L3’ literacy training continues every fortnight in Uralla. This training provides me

with the latest forms of teaching literacy to our learners from a research-based program

that works. Not all schools and teachers are eligible for this kind of training so thankyou

Kathy for allowing me to take part in it.

A big thank you must go to the P & C for their contributions towards the cooking equipment

they donated to the school. Thursday cooking sessions have been made more enjoyable

for both teachers and students (I trust parents have been taste testing the leftovers).

I hope you all have a wonderful holidays and I will see you back here for a busy term

three.

Outstanding Results in Visual Arts

During term two all students were entered in the Currabubula Small Schools Art Compe-

tition. Charlotte Laurie received first place in the Stage 2 black and white section with

her finger painting “Poodle’. Mia Goodwin received second place in the stage 1 abstract

section with her abstract dry brush painting “Flappy Chook”. During the exhibition a col-

lection of artworks were chosen to be on permanent display in the new cancer treatment

rooms at Tamworth Base Hospital; to brighten up the environment for patients while

receiving treatment. Charlotte Laurie’s “Poodle” was chosen, which she has kindly do-

nated to the hospital. Charlotte will be a special guest at the opening ceremony when it

is organised.

All students have entries in the prestigious UNESAP art competition held in conjunction

with NERAM and the art on display in the classrooms is looking sensational. Thankyou

Beth and Jennie for all you’re ‘framing’.

Wishing you a happy holiday.

Bike Fitness

We go riding at the Camp Draft

grounds with Mrs Bourke. Some-

times we ride across the road and

park our bikes so we can check

the creek. We play Pooh Sticks.

Mia

As we ride our bikes we can feel

the cool breeze on our skin. We

can hear the birds tweet and the

koalas grunt. We all feel happy.

Exploring our Local Area

As we walked out of the school grounds

we saw white pointy mushrooms. We

couldn’t touch them because they were

poisonous but we imagined that they

were Hobbit Homes.

We looked for koala’s in the trees. We

found Papa Koala on the walk back.

We saw a small, sparkling waterfall

which we drank out of and it tasted deli-

cious. Then Parker trod on the side of the

waterfall and the side collapsed.

Jaguar Australia

The red and black fast cars looked like racing cars and I love racing cars. Benson

I liked watching the cars come in because they were like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Charlotte

The cars were shiny and when I sat inside them they smelt like strawberries and felt like

sheep’s wool. They were so comfortable. Amy

Community Collaboration

I was allowed to play Henry’s base guitar and Hen-

ry showed me where to put my fingers. Benson

Sharn came and taught us Mindfulness which I

liked because it made me relaxed and calm. Amy

Nena always comes on Wednesday. We do poetry

with her. We have learnt lots of poems and our fa-

vourite is The Ant Explorer, CJ Dennis. My favour-

ite is Peter Piper . Amy

Winter Gardeners

Our garden was looking sad so we ploughed the

soil with our forks to loosen it. Then we made

rows and columns to plant our vegies; broad

beans, snow peas, lettuce, kale, beetroot & shal-

lots. Charlotte

Recycling Beautification Project

We recycled milk bottles and enjoyed mak-

ing flowers out of them.

We recycled tyres to create a Minion.

We have been recycling because we want

to make the planet a better place and less

polluted. Phoebe

Stay tuned for more in Term 3.
