I spoke with one of my clients in In-donesia this morning and talked about his Facebook marketing strategy. No this is not going to be

another blog on “THE POWER OF FACEBOOK”.

What I really want to talk about in this blog is “legitimate” Internet marketing for your busi-ness. You see most of us have been exposed to less than scrupulous internet marketing cam-paigns over the last few years. I am sad to say that I have also been one of those folks that has been scammed as well. I chalk it all up to expe-rience though LOL.

You see many of the people that I know that run what we call brick and mortar businesses simply are not moved by the whole internet marketing thing. I mean most of them, if they have a Face-book page, twitter account, and a LinkedIn ac-count, they feel like they are doing it big.

Internet marketing though is one of those things that most businesses need to have a grasp of on some level. I mean the internet is not going anywhere. Just look at your own kids today. All of them have a smart phone, their on it all day (not talking…Facebooking and texting), and they live in a really connected world. Even I find my-self at 42 checking this status and that status throughout the day.

Internet marketing is today is about connections. It’s about influence and trust. Business owners today are quickly slipping on this whole phenom-ena. No more is marketing about just saying, “buy my stuff”. In order to make a dent with in-ternet marketing it comes down to what I call consultative selling. OK, I didn’t come up with that word, Jay Abraham did, but that is what you need.

Consultative selling tells your clients why they need to do business with you. Not from your perspective however, but from theirs. Consulta-tive selling is about you teaching the client the benefits of doing business with you. Let me ex-plain…

When someone is interested in what you have to sell they may come to your web-site, but they will also go to your competi-tors as well. What you have to do is teach them through video, blogs, or audio how your product or service can take away a problem, frustration, or fear, that has entered into their lives. You see you have to explain how your product or service and yours alone can solve the “problem”.

This is not done though simply listing your features. It is done by listing the ben-efits. Apple creates commercials for their phones and the iPad that do this with preci-sion. Apple does not even sell you on the list of things the iPhone or iPad does. They just show you people using it in different situa-tions.

Do you remember the commercial for one of the new iPhones that came out in 2010 that simply showed a girl with braces embar-rassed to smile while actually talking to her dad using video chat on the iPhone? That commercial was genius! Apple never even talked about any features. The commercial simply showed a girl able to talk to her dad “visually”.

This is an example of what your internet mar-keting MUST do. It must show why you and only you have the answer for a problem that your niche market has.

How To Stop Being Scammed OnlineWe normally see all of the get rich quick type

of stuff online that really does nothing to serve the end user. Most of the products, membership sites, and ser-vices from some of the main stream gurus only serve the pro-

ducers and increase their own bottom lines.

One of the things that we all see is that ev-eryone wants to teach you how to make “$3000 in 30 days”, or “$72,000 in 90 days”, or “$1M in 6 months”. These claims do not appeal to fortune 500 companies CEO’s so why do they appeal to the masses?

Most business owners are broke or strug-gling right now. The dirty little secret is that no one really wants to work for their bread. Everyone wants to be a success, but no one really wants to do what it takes. I want you to think about something here. Why would I invest tons of time investing in a “secret” for success? Why would I pay a $1997 price tag to learn how to get more clients or convert site visitors into customers?

Have you heard the old saying, “those that don’t do teach and those that teach don’t do”? Many times over this saying holds true. Many of the gurus that are trying to sell you get rich quick or business success “secrets” have done NOTHING when it comes to build-ing a business. The cold hard truth is that many of them have built a name for them-selves by convincing you that they can teach you how to do it. This is just backwards and this is one of the reasons that so many peo-ple are tricked out of so much money each and every day.

How many times have you cracked out the credit card for $27 product, a $47 product, or a $97 dollar product that promise you that this is all you will ever need to change your life and grow your business? The sim-ple truth is that before you pay anyone any-thing…DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THEM FIRST.

Today many of these unscrupulous internet marketers have gotten good at the whole vid-eo marketing thing. The tactics that they use to manipulate our thinking are awesome.

You see we understand more now than ever the way that the human mind works. The unfortunate thing about that is that many, less than honorable, internet markets use it to manipulate you into buying their unproven products and services.

So how do you go about finding out who to trust and who not to trust? Well the first thing is Google them. Find out if they have a “Ripoff Report”. Look to see if they have any “Scam Reports”. Look for their groups on sites like facebook, twitter, and linkedin.

Take your time before you buy. Ask them for references. Actively seek out people who have used their products for more than 3-6 months. Don’t talk to anyone that has just bought it. They will only have good things to say because they are still excited. What you are looking for are people that have gotten actual “RESULTS”. If you can’t verify the in-formation, simply do not buy the product or service.

Most importantly…Trust your gut. Many times already you may have purchased things that just didn’t hold up to their claims, but you had a “feeling” they wouldn’t before you made the purchase. And…as always, if it is too good to be true, it usually is.

There are good things online that will help you build your business. Just be smart and buy anything impulsively.

Yes 2012 is here and business owners, entreprenuers, and CEO’s are looking for ways to grow, expand, and dominate their markets. New Media is a viable way to gain brand re-cogintion, trust, and pre-eminance.

Many of us have heard of things like podcasts, blogging, video marketing, and social me-dia. However, many people in business do not fully exploit all that these forms of new media bring to the table.

There are not many industries that couldn’t benefit from having a simple YouTube channel or a Facebook page for their business. Even though more and more businesses (big and small) are starting to at least create a presense using new media and social media, many of them have no real strategy for it all.

Many business owners can benefit by us-ing these simple stratgies.

Facebook Strategy: •Create a page for your business •Create an ad for your page •Target your niche with the ad •Create a custom page to get likes (ex) •Direct fans to your opt in page •Connect opt in page to autoresponder •provide results driven content.

YouTube Strategy:

•Create a youtube channel for your company •Create videos that show case how you can solve your target market’s problems •In the video description, always put your URL first (example) •In your video always include your URL right on the screen (Youtube will help you with that) •Use Youtube as a search engine and find people in your target market and friend them •Post your videos on your website and email your list of contacts whenever you post and encourage them to share the video as well.

Even with the use of social media along with blogging, podcasting, and twitter the more tra-ditional ways of getting information out like press releases are still valuable. The important thing about all these mediums is to be original and provide useful content.

New media is all about being more interactive and allowing your audience to really get a sense of who you are and why you are the logical choice for them to engage with. Today, being able to engage your audience and educate them about what you do is how you turn them into clients.

When your audience has a way to get to know you without the fear of being “sold”, then more conversions will happen. Today New Media allows your audience to know exactly why you are the expert in your market and that they need to do business with you and only you.
