MANY years ago, a friend asked me to partner

with her in a business. She asked me if I could beher nancierand shell do all the work. At the

time, I didnt know anything about business. ZeroSo her proposition was music to my ears. ImagineI didnt have to do anythingand Id start earning.

Every so often, she asked me for money. AndI gave whatever I had.

But sadly, the business we started wasntearning any money.

One morning, I knew I had to stop thebleeding. I gave up the business. And I walked

out with a HUGE LOSS. It was my entirelifesavings, gone up in smoke.

I felt such a big failure!

A voice inside my head said, Thats whatyou get for trying to be an Entrepreneur. Give

it up! Youre supposed to be a Preacher only.Nothing else.

Thankfully, I didnt listen to that voice.

Ill do it differently, I answered back. Oneday, Ill be a successful Entrepreneur.

I licked my wounds, picked myself up, anddidnt stop learning. I failed again, stood up again,

and kept learning. I had eight failures one after

another. But I never gave up.Today, after seven years, things

have changed.I now run 12 successful businesses.

And remember that HUGE LOSS? My entirelifesavings gone up in smoke? I now earn

that exact same amount every single month.Yes, I failed. Many times. But I was never a failure.

Why? Because God cannot fail inHis plan to bless my life.

Today, hear this truth: You canfail temporarily but you cannot

fail permanently. Because Godcannot fail.Have a fantastic Feast today!

    May your dreams

    LAST WEEK

ON the 11th Sunday in ordinarytime, Jesus, in the Gospelaccording to Mark 4:26-34, likensthe Kingdom of God to a mustardseed which, when sown, is thesmallest of all the seeds scatteredupon the soil. But once sown, itgrows up and becomes the largestof the plants in the garden.

    Fr. Joel Jason expounded on

three words about the Kingdom:1. Wait. After he had sown

the seed of a plant, the farmerwaits until the seed sprouts andgrows into a tree. Waiting isimportant so that our relationshipwith one another and with Godwill ourish.

    2. Mystery. Once the seedis sown, the farmer isnt surewhether the seed will grow or die.In the same manner, we reallydont know what God has in storefor us. Fr. Joel cited an examplegiven by Pope Benedict XVI

who said smoke from an incenseblurs our surrounding. Yet, thesmoke symbolizes prayer risingup to God. We may nd Godmysterious, yet we know He isreal and His love for us is true.

    3. Silence. Once the farmerhas sown the seeds, he cant doanything anymore, so he justgoes to sleep. He stays silent. Fr.Joel said silence is an importantcomponent of our relationshipwith God because silence is thelanguage of love, and God is love.

Fr. Joel said let us pray forthe grace to be humble -- to wait,

to be open to the mystery of God,and submit to Him in silence.

    Bella Estrella

    Like a Mustard Seed

    SHARING

The Greater GiftEVA DEL CARMEN saidat rst, she was hesitant toshare her story because it wasnot about receiving material

blessings after she faithfullygave her tithes. I did not havea ourishing business nor wasI able to go on a dream trip, she said.

Her blessings areintangible. Like the gift offaith amid lifes blows. Forinstance, her father sufferedemphysema, an incurabledisease of the lungs. Eva

prayed that he would live atleast 10 more years, but alas,he died.

Instead of losing faithin God, Eva realized that Godgave her father not only 10more years to live, but rather,an eternal life in Heaven.

Eva thanked God thatinstead of succumbing todepression, she was able tohold on to her faith. She added,Its a much greater grace thanmaterial blessings.

CONTINUING our seriesImpossible, Bro. Bo Sancheztalked about the second thingGod cannot do: change.

Malachi 3:6 says, I theLord does not change. And onething about God that will neverchange: God is love.

Bro. Bo stressed to us thateverything will change. Fame Changes. What or

who is famous now will not befamous anymore in the comingyears. Movies, actors, and other

personalities who are well knownnow will not forever be known

by many. Cool Changes. What was

cool yesterday is no longer cooltoday, and will no longer be cooltomorrow. Trends come and go.

Body Changes. Whetherwe like it or not, well grow

God Cannot Changeold and our body will change. Our weight, height, and healthconditions change.

People Change. Wehave childhood friends whomwe never see now or rarely get intouch with. Our loved ones willone day be gone because they

cannot be with us forever. Ourchildren will grow up and willlive on their own.

Only one thing cannotchange: God. God will love usforever. Some think that if theysin, Gods love for them will bediminished. But Bro. Bo said thatno amount of sin can decreaseGods love for us! It is sin thatrefuses the love of God but Hislove never goes away.

Bro. Bo shared the storyof Hosea, the prophet, as ananalogy. God tells Hosea to

Cool, clockwise from above:Tom Cruise a.k.a. Bo Sanchez

in Mission Impossible; Michelleand Chrisne Santo Tomas in

yesteryears balloon skirts andpecoats; Don Frondoso with mop

hair, printed shirt under long vestwith matching are pants; John

Dulay in hippie getup. At right, lastSunday, we celebrated Fathers Day

by praying over the Feast fathers.

marry Gomer, a prostitute.Hosea obeys God and marriesGomer. After a while, Gomerleaves Hosea. God tellsHomer to look for her. Again,Homer obeys God. He ndsGomer and brings her back tohis home.

Bro. Bo pointed outthat Hosea and Gomersrelationship is like therelationship of God and Israelor His people in general. God--as the husband-- does notabandon Israel-- the wife-- evenas she is unfaithful to Him. Nomatter how far or how oftenwe run away from God, Hewill always nd a way to bringus back to Him. And that willnever change.

    TODAYREFLECTIONS

    LifeIs BeautifulBy SHOJI S. MERIS

YOUR life amidst the problems youare facing-- health problems, nancial

problems, relationship problems-- will bebeautiful because God will never lie aboutHis promise to you.

Those words uttered by Bro. Bo

Sanchez in his talk, God Does Not Lie,the rst of the Impossible series, sharplystruck me, making me look into my life.

I am now 40 years old and I canattest that indeed, God never lies aboutHis promises. I experienced spiritualrenewal 17 years ago when I joined a faithcommunity composed of single people.

During the rst few years of myrenewal, life was beautiful and easy forme. Then, trial after trial beset me. First,my father died. Then my Mom sufferedheart disease. A brother faced seriousmarital problems. A sister suffered stroke. And just recently, another sister was

diagnosed with breast cancer. Whew! How can these happen at the timewhen I was already close to God, when in

prayer meetings I attended Id heardandbelieved--His promises of a full life, ajoyful and abundant life, for His people?

But no, I did not lose heart. I heldon to His promises. I told myself in His

perfect time, God will make everythingbright and beautiful for me again.

True enough, gradually, lightcame into my dark, dark life. My Momunderwent open-heart surgery and its

been 10 years now that she remains haleand healthy. My brother has overcome the

blows on his marriage. My eldest sisterhas recovered from the stroke. My othersister just recently nished her six sessionsof chemotherapy, without complications.Whats more we didnt have to spend acent for the treatment because a generoussoul shouldered the expenses.

As for me, I am healthy, I have aourishing career, and, more important, Iam super-blessed with steadfast faith.

Thus, I couldnt agree more with Bro.Bo when he said we must be rm with ourdream, be exible with our deadlines, and

be free from details. As I look back to what I had gone

through, I could say that I had overcome

such trials through my faith and beliefin Gods promises for me. I have beenable to wait patiently. I surrendered mytribulations to God. I told Him, Lord, what is the best for me? I know you willgive me the best at the right time and theright place.

And indeed, to this day, God givesme the best. I have a good-paying job.I was promoted to an ofcers position.Things didnt happen overnight, not evenin the details I wanted. But thats becauseGod had the better detailsthe Big and theBest for me.

    God be praised!

Talk 3: God Cannot FailDeuteronomy 20:4For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to ght for you against yourenemies, to give you the victory.

Raising of Jairus DaughterLuke 8:49-55While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, thesynagogue ruler. Your daughter is dead, he said. Dont bother the teacher anymore. Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, Dont be afraid; just believe, and shewill be healed. When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyonego in with him except Peter, John and James, and the childs father and mother.Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. Stop wailing,Jesus said. She is not dead but asleep. They laughed at him, knowing that shewas dead. But he took her by the hand and said, My child, get up! Her spiritreturned, and at once she stood up.

Raising of the Widows Son from NainLuke 7:11-15Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a largecrowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person wasbeing carried outthe only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a largecrowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to herand he said, Dont cry. Then he went up and touched the cofn, and those carryingit stood still. He said, Young man, I say to you, get up! The dead man sat up andbegan to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Raising of LazarusJohn 11:17, 38-39, 43-44On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laidacross the entrance. Take away the stone, he said. But, Lord, said Martha, thesister of the dead man, by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there fourdays. When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, Lazarus, come out!The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a clotharound his face.

Personal Reection and Group Discussion:What impossible situation did you experience which God made possible? Do youhave an impossible situation now that you want God to make possible?

RECOLLECTIONS are solemn, somber, silent. Right? Not quite.

    Not the Singles Ministry recollection

at the Layforce Chapel, San Carlos

    Seminary, Guadalupe, Makati City, last

    March 31, 2012

With Fr. Eric Santos and Bro.

Arun Gogna as main speakers, you

know this was going to be anything but

silent. You know youll fall off your

seat laughing as the speakers lace their

    talk with wit and humor.

Yet, what they said at therecollection pierced your heart and

    awakened your spirit, you came

    out of the recollection refreshed,

    renewed, reformed.

    Bro. Arun, a master theologian

and builder of Feast Alabang, spoke

about the things that must be crucied

    inside you. Like self righteousness

the usual Alam ko na yan attitude.

    Like hatred, questioning God during

    trials and pain. Like procrastination,

Look, Its More Fun To Be Single!

putting aside what we have to do untilwe run out of time to do it.

Fr. Eric spoke about the gift

of salvation. God desires to save us

because He loves us. But to receive the

gift of salvation, Fr. Eric said we must

do our part. He said our homework

is to live a godly life which can be

possible if we pray unceasingly, if we

praise God constantly, if we stay in

the company of true Christians, and if

we are willing to carry our cross, to be

willing to go through our Good Friday, knowing after it, Easter will come!

    Sis. Pat Morales, head of

    the Singles Ministry, thanked the

    participants400 of them!-- for taking

    time to attend the recollection

    Hosted by Carlo Lorenzo and

    John Ben Rodriguez, the recollection

    ended with the usual wacky-wacky

    photo-ops. Here are the pictures

that say, its more fun to attend a

    Singles recollection!

    CARING GROUPS

Pray Together, Stay TogetherBy APPLE CRUDA

A CARING GROUP that prays together

    stays together.

That is so true, attests Chelle Crisanto,

as her Caring Group has been one ofthe longest running CGs in the Light of

    Jesus Family.

When the Feast PICC was built,

some LOJ CGs broke up as members had

to serve in other Feasts or simply try new

CGs cropping up in Feast PICC. But not this

Caring Group led by Bro. Buddy and Sis.

Maya Tan. The members have been so close

    nothing could separate them.

Or, theyve been praying together for

so longthat they have stayed together. One

of their most efcacious praying together

is the Visita Iglesia, one of our traditionsduring the Lenten season.

In 2011, we went to Rizal, Laguna,

and Quezon Province. We visited old

churches in Liliw Laguna, and Real

and Lumban, Quezon, to name a few,

    says Chelle.

On Holy Wednesday this year, the

group went to Bulacan and visited sevenchurches namely; Parish of the Divine

Mercy- National Shrine of the Divine

    Mercy, Marilao, Bulacan; Calumpit Parish

    Church; Barasoain Church, Malolos;

    St. John the Baptist Church, Calumpit;

    San Isidro Labrador, Pulilan, Bulacan;

St. Anne Parish, Hagonoy Bayan; Sto.

    Rosario Parish Church, Brgy. Sto.

    Rosario, Hagonoy.

During Holy Week this year, Buddy

and Maya had to go to the United States

to visit a grandson. But wed planned our

Visita Iglesia before our CG heads hadto go abroad. So with their blessing, we

decided to push through our Visita Iglesia,

    Chelle says.

Want your CG to last? Pray together!

    BLESSINGLOGS

    THE Philippines prides itself

    as the only predominantly

    Christian country in Asia. A

great majority of its over 90

    million population-- about 85%

    or 76 million-- are Catholics.

    Of this number, however,

THE YEAR 1995 was not a good year forLoie Alaba, then only 17 years old, and herfamily. This was when her parents separatedways. Three kidsincluding her-- moved toCavite with their father, and one child wasleft with their mother in Bulacan.

Back then, Loie had just started collegeand being the eldest, she wanted to be a goodrole model to her siblings. Thus, she devotedmost of her precious time to her studies tomaintain her scholarship, leaving none to hearMass on Sundays.

Initially, avoiding the church wasjust a response to her parents new statusand the familys change of address, whichdisoriented her. Besides, why go to churchwhen being new in the place, you dontknow anyone there?

Even her college course collaboratedwith her alibi. She took up MassCommunication, a Liberal Arts course, andLiberal Arts, you know, explores various

philosophies, including opposing viewsabout religion which could rattle, if not erode

    sGroup.

only 15% are regularly attendingSunday Mass. Sadly, a lot of Catholics

are missing out on this regular

    Eucharistic experience.

To top the low attendance rate

in Catholic churches, over the past

    30 years, approximately 9 million

    Catholics were converted and joined

    various Born Again groups. Their

approach, as we know, is rather

simple: they are going out of their way

and reaching out to the unchurched.

The Born Again groups are actively

engaging people in the ofces, in

the malls, on the streets, and in

buses, even. They are often visible,

befriending people, and not just on

    Sundays.

Thus we have the Feast as a

    vigilant response to the dwindling

number of church attendees. Its aim

is to make Catholics appreciate the

Holy Mass and strengthen their faith

in God. The Feast is the brainchild of

Bro. Bo Sanchez, founder and leader

of the Light of Jesus Family, a Catholic

    Charismatic renewal community. The

Feast is a weekly gathering which

consists of a Mass, with lively praise

and worship and practical talk on

happy Christian living. There are now

about 80 Feasts around the world and

counting. More than this number, the

Feast has attracted a good number

oflost sheepwho are now found and

back in the fold of the Catholic Church

and are enjoying a closer relationship

with God.The Greek word for Church

    isekklesia, which means called out

    or summoned and assembled with

a purpose. A Church, therefore, is

not just a structure or a building but

a gathering of people and the Holy

Eucharist should not be conned in

its four walls but should be where the

people are. Heres a story of a sister

who went through detours before she

found her way back to the Church.

ones faith-- especially one needing a wayout of the faith. And Loie, hurting over herfamilys misfortune, easily snapped whatlled her need at the time. She zeroed in onthe thinking that, Why go to church? If youwant to talk to God, you can always go toHim directly anytime.

I was like, for as long as I didnt hurtanybody, I should be okay in the eyes of men

and God, she recalls.Thats how she eventually justied not

attending Mass-- which became her habit andher lifestyle.

Trials and DetoursIn 1998, Loies dad became ill and was

diagnosed with lung cancer. He consulted anherb doctor and the doctor recommended thatthe family go to church and pray a novena tothe Immaculate Conception.

But I thought that was a lot ofnonsense, Loie says. I asked my parentshow the novena and the Rosary wereconnected to my dads cancer and they simplycould not explain how.

And so, Loie continued to keep herdistance from the church.

A year after, her dad passed away.In 2001, another blow hit the family.

Loies mom was diagnosed with ovariancancer. Her mother decided to seek comfortin a Baptist church, and she insisted that Loieand her siblings attend its weekly service.Just to acquiesce in the decision of herailing mom, Louie attended, bringing alongher sibs.

A year after, the inevitable happened.

Her mother succumbed to cancer. Orphaned,Loie and her siblings were adopted by a BornAgain couple. The couple taught them a newreligion, mainly opposing Catholic doctrines.

They even forbid us to make the signof the cross, Loie adds.

Apparently getting more confused, Loiebegan to feel a deeper need to knowandnd-- God.

Actually, rst, she became consciousabout her health. She learned from her

parents illnessthat a diet heavy with meat

fat may lead to cancer and that children ofcancer victims are likely to suffer the diseasetoo. So she resolved to be a vegetarian anddo some yoga exercises. But the yoga classesincluded some Hinduism teachings. Sounconsciously, Loie became a follower. Sheattended Hindu Sunday worship services andretreats, and prayed daily to Hindu gods.

A BreakthroughSometime in 2010, Loie faced

another trial. A friend at work betrayed her, jeopardizing her job. With no parents to turnto, Loie felt miserable and so alone, evenlosing energy to go to work.

With no one to talk to, she turned toself-help books. In a book store, what caughther eye was the book titledHow To Find

Extraordinary Joy at Work, written by JonEscoto, one of our Feast preachers.

I got the advice I needed from thebook, she attests.

The book also carried informationabout the publisher, the Shepherds VoicePublications Inc., founded by Bro. Bo

Sanchez, and so Loie got introduced to Bro.Bos life-changing books.

A year later, one of her friends faceda family problem. Loie thus bought for herfriend a copy of Bro. BosFill Your Lifewith Miracles. And she got another copyfor herself.

In the book, Bro. Bo said you cantalk to God about anything, yes, even yourneed for miracles. And so Loie startedtalking to God.

And God must have talked to her, too.

Because from Bro. Bos books and linkagesabout his other ministries, she eventuallyfound information about the Feast. And

before she knew it, she was already at theFeast PICC in January 2012.

I wanted to start the year right bylistening to God, she says. In his books,Bro. Bo introduced me to a God I could relateto, so I wanted to get Gods message live, through His faithful messenger, Bro. Bo.

That rst Sunday of the rst month ofthis year, Loie listened and listened good.

Bro. Bo said words that hit me right, asif God was talking to me directly, she adds.

Since then, she has been attendingthe Feast regularly, even bringing along hersister Rizza.

Whats more, she says the Feasthas taught her to understand the Catholicfaith. For the rst time, she appreciated theMass, especially the homilies that explainCatholic doctrines and the real meaning ofthe Catholic rites.

I learned about the signicance of AshWednesday when Fr. Eric (Santos) explainedit, she says.

The Mass at the Feast is not amonotonous rite, but a relationship withGod, she adds.

Learning about the Catholic faith hasled Loie to what shes been searching for.

Its an intimate relationship with God,she points out.

Grateful for her spiritual renewal, Loieresolved to serve God. She joined the FeastCreatives and Events Group the main taskof which is to demonstrate and reinforce theFeast talks through skits and various activitiesat the Plenary Hall lobby.

I now serve God, not out ofobligation but out of my gratefulness toHim. Its my way of thanking Him forall His blessings to me--for lling up myspiritual needs. And, also, my practicalneeds such as improving my nances asBro. Bo teaches us nancial literacy.

My service is an opportunity togive back to God. I am happiest whenI am serving with the people I love and

whom I now call my family, the CEG.My love tank before was empty and rusty, but now, thank God, its overowing forI am superblessed.

Yes, its been a long, circuitous journey. After some wrong turns and detours, Loienally found her way back to the Church--and into Gods loving embrace.

    THE RAINBOW CONNECTIONBy PORTIA HILARIO

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it

will be the sign of the covenant between me

    and the earth.

    --Genesis 9:13

EVERY time the rain comes, our street isthe rst to get ooded. For a hundred andone reasons, we could not leave this placewhere my husband has lived all his life. SoI have learned to adjust to the situation.

Every time it rains, I claim Gods

promise in Genesis 9:13. After the bigood that destroyed the earth, God said toNoah:I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenantbetween me and the earth. Whenever Icover the sky with clouds and the rainbowappears, I will remember my promise to

you and all the animals that a ood willnever again destroy all living beings. When the rainbow appears in the clouds,

I will see it and remember the everlastingcovenant between me and all living beingson earth. That is the sign of the promisewhich I am making to all living beings.

Since I learned about this Biblicalpassage, I have looked at the rainbowas a symbol of Gods assurance that Heis present wherever I am and whatevercircumstances I am in, and that He is readyto protect me or ease my trouble or healmy pain. Yes, I utter Genesis 9:13 not onlywhen the rain begins. I claim it every timeI am afraid.

One time, my brother-in-law metan accident. I was afraid for him, butthat very moment, I saw a rainbow in theclouds and I knew hed be all right. Andindeed, he survived.

At another time, when he was twoyears old, my youngest son sufferedtyphoid. I was terribly afraid. But then Isaw a rainbownot realjust a paintingof a rainbow on one of the walls of thechildrens hospital where he was conned.I had always brought my sons to thishospital for checkups but it was the rsttime I noticed that painting. And so Iknew my little boy would be all right. Andindeed, he survived.

Still, at another time, I had a big

problem in my job that lingered on forabout a year already. One day, I was sodesperate, I just found myself lookingup the sky...for God. Would you believe,up on the horizon, a rainbow justmaterialized! Later, my problem at work

just disappeared.A couple of years ago, I saw a

beautiful picture of a rainbow used aswallpaper on the computer desktop ofone of my staff. I asked for a copy of the

picture and planned to use it as wallpaperof my laptop desktop. I never got around

    posting the pictureuntil a couple

of weeks after I asked for the picture. My desktop was so cluttered I decidedto transfer my les to my hard drive. While doing so, I saw the picture ofthe rainbow among the les in the harddrive and so at last I decided to post iton my laptop.

I was using my laptop and looking atthat rainbow that Saturday on September26, 2009, when Ondoy began to come intoour house. Genesis 9:13 raced in my mindas oodwater crept into our living room, went an inch high, receded, came in again...then went away.
