Dear Parents/Carers

Today on 22nd

June, we celebrate the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul or Solemnity of Saints, in honour of the martyrdom in Rome of the apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul. These two were very different individuals who serve as examples to us all. “Their sound has gone forth into all the world, the voice of St Peter and St Paul are heard into the ends of the earth “ (Ps 18:5) This week the sixth form held a taster day for year 12 students to experience a flavour of the Sixth Form

including subjects that they are likely to choose to pursue at A Level. Students were extremely positive

about their day and we look forward to welcoming students in September.

It was a privilege to be able to visit the year 7 assembly today as they received awards for reading as part

of the accelerated reading programme. Congratulations to the following students who have read the

highest number of words this year:

Lucy Martin – 4 million words

Jack Alexander – 4 million words

Lauren Makepeace – 6 million words

It was encouraging to see so many students enthused and inspired by reading.

As a MAC school we have launched a Food Bank Appeal which we are asking all students and

parents/carers to support us with. As a Catholic school we are committed to serving the needs of the less

fortunate and this provides us with an opportunity to get behind this worthy appeal. If every student donated

one item of food/drink we would feed a significant number of families over the summer holidays. We are

asking students to raid their cupboards at home and bring in an item to donate. We will invite students to

transport these items to the local foodbank by the end of summer.

Finally I’d like to mention the year 11 prom that took place last week at Brandon Hall. It was a truly beautiful

evening which marked the end of students’ five year journey with us. Thank you to all parents/carers that

have supported the school on this journey. We look forward to welcoming many of our year 11 students

into the Sixth Form in September.

I wish you all a pleasant and restful weekend.

Message from the Pope

“Jesus comes to save us; we are called to choose his way: the way of service, of giving, of

forgetfulness of ourselves.”

Saint of the Week

Weekly Prayer

.

Family Prayer for World Meeting of Families 2018

God, our Father,

We are brothers and sisters in Jesus your Son,

One family, in the Spirit of your love.

Bless us with the joy of love.

Make us patient and kind, gentle and generous,

Welcoming to those in need.

Help us to live your forgiveness and peace.

Protect all families with your loving care,

especially those for whom we now pray:

Increase our faith, strengthen our hope,

keep us safe in your love,

Make us always grateful for the gift of life that we

share.

This we ask, through Christ our Lord,

Amen

“Pray for us that we will live a life

true to Jesus’ teachings. “ Glory Be to the Father

Saint Peter & Saint Paul

Dear God, I lean on You because I know you care about me. Your strength

supports me, Your love carries me. You are here for me: To help me through

every pain. To be my eyes when I feel the need to turn away. To be my ears

when I can't bear to hear what has to be said. To be my heart, always filled with

hope and courage. Thank You.

~Amen

Saint Peter and Saint Paul

St Peter (Simon Peter) was a fisherman probably from Bethsaida, Galilee. He and his brother Andrew became one of Jesus’ twelve Apostles, “fishers of men”. He is extensively referred to throughout the New Testament including two letters attributed to him. St Peter accompanied Jesus on many occasions. He would have listened to Him preach and teach as well as witness many of his miracles. Jesus’ final miracle was to heal the ear of a servant which St Peter cut off in the Garden of Gethsemane. St Peter was appointed the leader of the Apostles – “the rock”, and with St Paul is

recognised as having been critical to the spread of Christianity following Jesus’

crucifixion. St Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, was martyred by crucifixion, upside

down. He was buried underneath the high altar where the Basilica of St Peter was

originally built. Pope Francis revealed small bone relics of St Peter to the public in

November 2013

The Feast of Saint Peter is the 29th of June.

.

St Paul, although not one of the original twelve apostles, is a

critical figure associated with the early spread of Christianity

following Jesus’ crucifixion. St Paul was a devout Jew with

Roman citizenship. He persecuted early followers of Jesus and

tried to prevent the formation of the Christian Church.

However, one day when travelling to Damascus he had a

life-changing vision and was blinded for three days.

Paul became an immediate convert to Christianity and devoted his remaining years

to travelling, preaching and conversion. He was imprisoned and, although he

avoided execution on various occasions, he was eventually martyred around 67AD.

The Feast of Saint Paul is the 29th of June.

Fantastic Response to Taster Day

The Sixth Form College atrium was alive with enthusiasm and verve as prospective students prepared for their

taster day at STM. Each individual student had their own timetable for the day covering the subjects that they may choose to take

next year. W e wish them well.

With the approach of warmer days, your child may realise that they have misplaced their coat! If you know that they are missing their coat (or any other item of uniform) please ask them to go to Reception to enquire after it. We have an immense amount of lost uniform items. Please do write your child's name on the uniform so that we might be able to get it back to them Any items remaining at the end of term

will be taken to a charity shop

Well Done

Ruby Denston and Emma-Jean Bloomer (Year 7) are completing a ‘mudrun’ this Saturday in order to

raise money for Cancer Research. They are completing this as a family member is currently

undergoing treatment and with their sponsorship so far should raise over £400. Good luck girls – you are fantastic examples to us all and we are VERY proud

of you!

Our Year 7 Accelerated Reading Assembly turned out to be a real record breaker. Mrs Payne organises the reading of books whereby you can earn points as each word in the book

is read, resulting in 'millionaires’. So far this year there were a lot of young readers who have benefited from the book push.

No one more so than Lauren Makepeace who ended up with 6 million points, but not only that, Lauren took 94 quizzes and attained 100 percent in all of them: remarkable!

The Accelerated Reading year was kicked off early as Jack Alexander and Lucy Martin quickly moved to be the first millionaires and ended up with a grand total of 4 million words each.

Other facts, figures and photographs will be added to the website next week, but the message is simple - keep reading, and enjoy doing it.

Dropping Students off at School

I would like to remind parents that we do not have lots of space on the driveway as a drop-off zone.

The expectation is that you drop off the pupils on the pavement main road or, even better, in the Jubilee car park which is a much bigger space for this purpose.

They should then enter the school through the appropriate pedestrian gates. When collecting your child at the end of the day, you should park on the Jubilee

car park allowing buses to park outside school without any obstructions and not putting the children's safety at risk

Dear Parents / Carers

We care looking to improve our environment for learning in science next year and are on the look-out for the following:

Unwanted house plants

Unwanted fish tanks / filters / lights etc

Unwanted stick insects / terrariums

If you have any of the above that you are able to donate then we would be very grateful. Thank You

Students Feeling Unwell

Please support us by ensuring your child follows the correct procedure in

school if they feel unwell. If your child feels unwell they should speak to their

classroom teacher/form tutor in the first instance who will refer them to the medical room.

They will then be assessed and if the medical staff, feel that it is appropriate to contact home then this will

happen. We also check your child's attendance record. We would appreciate you contacting the school if your child texts/calls you to inform you that

they feel ill before turning up at school.

Thank you for your support.
