Stewardship Corner “Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11
The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening their treasure chests for Him is an image that we should all try to follow each day. In gratitude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously
share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us to be generous with everything, but especially that one thing that means the most to us.
Welcome to Sacred Heart . . . Whether you are a first time or a returning visitor,
we are glad you are here! We welcome new members to our community of faith. Visit our parish website
and Facebook page for more information. If you are interested in learning more or to register, please call
the Parish Office at 845-3121.

If you did not receive a book at the Christmas Masses, please take one from the table in the Gathering Space.
Thank You Christmas Basket Helpers Thank you to all who helped in any way with our Christmas baskets. We filled 24 baskets for 44 adults and 36 children. We appreciate your help in donating, labeling, sorting, packing and delivering baskets to our families’ cars. Thank you Kathryn Randenberg for saving boxes for us all year, Hank Oakes for transporting the boxes to the church, I-Supply for donating our paper goods and Copey’s for donating eggs for the baskets. All are welcome to join us beginning the week of January 13 for this new 10 week study. Cost is $10. Please sign up with Tom in the Jansen Center, St Luke. First Friday and First Saturday Mass By Father Ambrose On the First Friday and Saturday of every month, St. Peter Parish take part in a beautiful tradition to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We dedicate the whole month to Jesus and Mary by receiving Communion on the First Friday and Saturday. This is a way to make up for the many sins and blasphemies against Jesus and Mary which are so common in our society. Please join us in the church for First Friday Mass and devotions at 7:30 p.m, and for First Saturday Mass and devotions at 8:30 a.m. Our Lord promised St. Margaret Mary Alacoque that anyone who received Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months would be given great graces and the promise of final perseverance. Our Lady promised Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries at Fatima, that anyone who received Communion, prayed the Rosary and meditated on the mysteries of the Rosary for five consecutive First Saturdays would be assisted with every grace necessary for salvation at the time of their death. If you have any questions about these devotions, please call Jean Schons at 506.7713.
March for Live In Washington D.C. This year the March For Life event will be held on January 24. This is an annual pro-life rally protesting abortion. It is held in Washington, D.C., on or around the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing abortion in the
case Roe v. Wade. The march is organized by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. Since 1974, the MARCH FOR LIFE has taken place annually to continue to implore our lawmakers to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision, and put an end to abortion. It has continually grown throughout the years with attendance being estimated at over 200,000 people in January of 2019. For more information if you would like to attend, go to: http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/ministries--offices/respect--life--2/m4life/.
Reflection on the Epiphany of the Lord “Epiphany” means manifestation. And the “Epiphany of the Lord” is Jesus’ manifestation not only to these three Magi from the East, but it’s also a symbolic but real manifestation of the Christ to the whole world. These Magi, traveling from a foreign and non-Jewish nation, reveal that Jesus came for all people and all are called to adore Him. These Magi were “wise men” who studied the stars and were aware of the Jewish belief that a Messiah was coming. They would have been versed in much of the wisdom of the day and would have been intrigued by the Jewish belief in the Messiah. God used what they were familiar with to call them to adore the Christ. He used a star. They understood the stars and when they saw this new and unique star over Bethlehem they realized that something special was happening. So the first lesson we take from this for our own lives is that God will use what is familiar to us to call us to Himself. Look for the “star” that God is using to call you. It’s closer than you may think. A second thing to note is that the Magi fell prostrate before the Christ Child. They laid their lives down before Him in complete surrender and adoration. They set a perfect example for us. If these astrologers from a foreign land could come and adore Christ in such a profound way, we must do the same. Perhaps you could try literally lying down prostrate in prayer this day, in imitation of the Magi, or at least do so in your heart through prayer. Adore Him with a complete surrender of your life. Lastly, the Magi bring gold, frankincense and myrrh. These three gifts, presented to our Lord, show that they acknowledged this Child as the Divine King who would die to save us from sin. Gold is for a King, frankincense is a burnt offering to God, and myrrh is used for one who would die. Thus, their adoration is grounded in the truths of who this Child is. If we are to adore Christ properly, we must also honor Him in this threefold way.
Reflect, today, upon these Magi and see them as a symbol of what you are called to do. You are called from the foreign place of this world to seek out the Messiah. What is God using to call you to Himself? When you discover Him, do not hesitate to acknowledge the full truth of who He is, lying prostrate before Him in complete and humble submission. Lord, I love You and adore You. I lay my life before You and surrender all. You are my Divine King and Savior. My life is Yours. (Pray three times and then prostrate yourself before the Lord) Jesus, I trust in You.
