Today, at all Cathedrals around the world, bishops will be opening their “Holy Doors of Mercy” as a “sign and prelude to the profound grace and reconciliation that awaits this year.” Pope Francis invites each of us and our parish communities to reflect on this gift and to open wide the doors of our hearts and our churches to all who come to us in need. May we be an “oasis of mercy” for all who hunger to be fed and thirst for life-giving water to drink. UNIVERSAL PRAYER

PRESIDER:As we look forward to the coming of the Messiah, let us place our needs before the God of mercy who always hears our prayers.

DEACON/LECTOR:

For the universal Church as we begin this Extraordinary Year of Mercy; for joy and mercy to reign in our hearts as we prepare to celebrate the feast of Christ’s birth. We pray to the Lord.

For a world torn by war and terror; for leaders who seek both justice and peace; for Christ’s light to shine brightly in the darkness. We pray to the Lord.

For the Archdiocese of Cincinnati; for our parish communities as we open wide our doors to welcome those who seek to have hungers fed and thirsts quenched. We pray to the Lord.

For those who live in poverty; for those who live on the fringes of society; for those who provide shelter and warmth. We pray to the Lord.

For the sick and the elderly; for ministers of mercy who bring comfort and care to their lives. We pray to the Lord.

For those who have died, may they find a seat at the eternal banquet and rejoice in the love of the Lord. We pray to the Lord.
