for the 2010 Elections

Page 3: Survey Results Ppt 2007

• Considering that 2010 is an election year, the Kalinga Media Club (KAMEC), the Department of Interior and Local Government, and Liga ng mga Barangays have resolved to conduct a survey to sample the perceptions of the voting public, as well as project their behavior this coming election period.

Page 4: Survey Results Ppt 2007

• This survey principally aims to describe voting behavior, views and opinions of the Kalinga electorate in various election processes and election practices.

Are you aware of existing Election Laws?

General Knowledge on Election Laws

Page 9: Survey Results Ppt 2007

Provision 7, on the prohibition for military and police personnel to enter and stay inside precincts and polling centers, except to vote

828 468

Aware Not Aware

Provision 1, on the prohibition of posting campaign posters outside of areas not designated by COMELEC as common poster areas;

828 686

Provision 2, on the prohibition to vote more than once; 842 447

Provision 3, on the prohibition to vote in place of others; 845 463

Provision 4, on the prohibition to accept payments in exchange for votes;

856 395

Provision 5, on the prohibition to use terrorism, violence and other coercive acts to obtain votes;

720 523

Provision 6, on the prohibition to bribe and coerce election officials;

795 456

The trend clearly indicates that the voting public has a good grasp on election laws – with the greatest gap exhibited by their responses to Provision 4 which covers the acceptance of money in exchange of votes. Conversely, they are most ignorant on Provision 1 which designates poster areas acceptable to COMELEC.

• While the survey reflects the perception of the responding individuals, it is not

conclusive – although it gives us a glimpse of how voters may decide next year, and

at the same time providing prospective candidates a gateway to direct their future campaign activities into areas where they

may be lagging behind.

Page 29: Survey Results Ppt 2007

• Still, this survey was conducted with the hope of instilling the election atmosphere

into the consciousness of the voting public – thus creating in them a sense of being

more cautious in their future choices.
