Yearof Faith

The last chapter of PopeFrancis' first encyclicalletter con nects faith with the world inwhich we live. The Pope stresses that faith

is more than an individual experience, moreeven t han th e expe rience r;;::::::::::::::::::::::::;;;:;;;;;:::::--::::~::::====~of the faith community. The significance of faithreaches out to everyaspect of life, individualand society. It gives asolid foundation for theworks of justice, for lawand for peace. Faith isprofoundly relevant forthe common good. It's a very modern

tendency to reduce faithto a private whim. Theattitude sometimes is "Ifyou like that sort of thing, well and good". But realChristian faith is morethan a personal like, it isa powerful challenge tosociety. Faith is no refugeforthefainthearted; ratherit stretches the horizons L!~~~~~~~~==:::~==::::::::!:::::!Jof social engagement andprobes the fabric of society with a view to valuesof the Kingdom of God.Special mention is made of the role of faith in

the family. The beauty of marriage mirrors manyof the features of faith: "Promising love for everis possible when we perceive a plan bigger thanour own ideas and undertakings ... faith alsohelps us grasp in all its depth and richness thebegetting of children, as a sign of the love of theCreator who entrusts us with the mystery of anew person" (52).Faith reveals the grounds of human dignity

and respect; faith uncovers the significance of all

human life, from first beginning to last breath. Faithprovides a glue that can hold society together:"Faith teaches usto seethat every man and womanrepresents a blessing for me, that the light of

God's face shines on methrough the faces of mybrothers and sisters".Facedwith the mystery

of suffering, pain andevil, onlyfaith can guideus to some meaning. Itis through faith that wecan unite our sufferingswith the sufferings of

I Jesusand together theycan be redemptive. It isthrough faith that wecan always look in joyfulhope towards ourfuture,God. No darkness canextinguish the light ofthe resurrection, "even ifour dwelling place herebelow is wasting away,we have an eternaldwelling place whichGod had prepared inChrist" (57).

The encyclical ends with a short reflection onthe faith of Mary, Mother of the Lord. The Popecalls Mary "the perfect icon of faith". She livedall that is said about the gift of faith in our livingTradition. To her we entrust our faith and the faithof the Church.Today seesthe close of the Year of Faith. Butthe

life of faith continues to deepen and grow. Thedevice of having such a 'Year of Faith' has broughtmany blessings and insights into our lives. We areinspired to continue to celebrate the gift of Godthrough a faith which in serving others radiatesthe joy of God.

Just a thought YEAR OF FAITH

Today the Year of Faith comes to a close. It is also the Feast of Christ the King, and the day when many of our children make their First Holy Communion. It is also the last Sunday in the Church’s year. If all that is not enough, it is the day we are going to try and help our brothers and sis-ters in the Philippines who have been so badly affected by the recent ty-phoon. So, today seems a good day to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone in the parish. THANK YOU for living the gospel this year with enthusiasm THANK YOU for showing such love and concern for the poor –at home and abroad. THANK YOU for training our children to receive the Sacraments: those who were helped to celebrate reconciliation for the first time, those who were confirmed by the Bishop, those who are making their first Holy Com-munion. THANK YOU to all the ministers in the parish for your dedication –I won’t give a list in case I leave someone out! THANK YOU to the Parish Pastoral Council and the Finance Committee for joyfully steering the parish week in and week out. THANK YOU for using our beautiful church –coming to Mass, Adoration, Novenas, Reconciliation services….the list goes on. THANK YOU TO GOD OUR LOVING FATHER for all the ways you have graced us this year in Jesus your Son. Fr Sean Wales, C.Ss.R. Parish Priest.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

TTT Time, Talent and Treasure Corner Highlighting opportunities for Parishioners to

contribute to their Church and Parish with time, talent or treasure.

Year of Faith the final chapter

Year-of-Faith draws to a close: Our Archbishop encouraged us to use the Year of Faith oppor-tunity to focus on what we can do as a Community for and within our Faith. Sharing our gifts of Time, Talent and Treasure created such an opportunity. We created the weekly bulletin notice in this regard as a way of communication both what's needed within our parish commu-nity and also what we are collectively doing to ensure Holy Re-deemer remains a place of solid worship and community. As the Year of Faith draws to a close we will be reducing the frequency of the Time, Talent Treasure notices and updates. This is not to say our parish community should reduce their sharing of these gifts, but rather that the sharing should be more embedded in the way we do things. Communication of various needs and actions will still continue in the bulletin. Parish council would like to thank the Parish Community for your participation and feedback and encourage the majority of our Parishioners to become more active in our Parish activity, expressing our Thanks and Worship in practical ways by con-tinuing to give of Time, Talent or Treasure as the need arises. There is an open invitation to any and all Parishioners to sug-gest new initiatives, funding or ways of doing things that will both enhance our Faith and build Community.

In closing, remember : To share your Time, Talent or Treasure

within the Parish Community step forward and contact the office 021 712 2210 with your gift of help. .
