Dear Friends:

On the Second Sunday of Lent we always hear one of the accounts of Jesus’ Transfiguration. Today’s passage is from the Gospel of Mark, and true to Mark’s style, it is very much to the point. Jesus takes a few disciples upon a high mountain where he is transfigured before them—his clothes so white as no fuller could ever bleach them. Both Moses, a symbol of the Law, and Elijah, a symbol of the prophets, appear and the three engage in a discussion. We are not privy to the nature of their discussion; but the three of them together reveal the vast panorama of God’s saving love—almost like all of the readings we hear at the Easter Vigil. Peter, totally overwhelmed by the experience as if in a trance, suggests the erecting of three tents, one for each of them. A voice is suddenly heard extolling Jesus as his beloved son and admonishing them to listen to him. The experience ends and Jesus requests that the three tell no one until Jesus is raised from the dead. The disciples are quite perplexed as to what he means. For those us who know what is going to happen beyond this event, we can savor this scene in Jesus’ life as affirming our faith in Jesus as the Son of God, our path to true discipleship. The voice of the Father says it all, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” In our lives as followers of Jesus Christ, as his disciples made so and transformed by our baptism, we are called to listen to the voice of Jesus within; and Jesus’ voice is about love. Love transforms everything and everyone. Our baptism into Jesus’ death and resurrection transforms us. We are given life.

With Peace and Joy!

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT –MARCH 1, 2015

Estimados amigos:

Escuchen a él".

LITURGY AND MUSIC NEWS Here are more opportunities to pray together: During these 40 days and nights of Lent, please consider signing up for one hour to be with our Lord in the St. Martin de Porres Chapel located in the vestibule of St. Joseph Church. Back to the Basics: Lent is a time for Prayer, Fasting, and Alms Giving. We are called to holiness, mutual forgiveness and conversion to bring us closer to Our Lord. Our baptism calls us to repent as we reflect during Lent on the many sacrifices Our Lord made for us that we might live eternally with Him. Stations of the Cross are this Friday, February 27th, 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. It reminds us of Christ's footsteps to His crucifixion and draws us closer to Our Lord. Please come and join us during this Lenten Journey. Please note that the Friday March 20th Stations will be held at St. Anthony’s Church followed by soup in the hall. The Music Ministry is leading us in chant during Lent to emphasize the solemnity of the Season. Please join us and use the blue cards in the pews for the Sanctus (Holy) and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). Kyrie Eleison ,Christe Eleison, Kyrie Eleison, (Lord, Have Mercy, Christ, Have Mercy, Lord Have Mercy) is chanted at the beginning of Mass. The Gloria is not sung during Lent. WE NEED GIFT BEARERS: We encourage everyone but especially family members to ask an usher to bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar at the Preparation of the Gifts. What a wonderful way to honor your deceased loved one by participating during their Mass.  You can sign up too and signup sheets are located in the back of both of our churches. We continue to accept and receive Ministry Sign-Up Sheets.  Please take a Ministry Sign-Up Sheet and become closer to God and your fellow parishioners. You can return your Ministry Sheet by placing it in the Collection Basket, Giving it to an Usher or bringing it to

the Parish Center. Thank you for sharing your gifts with our parish.
