July 29th, 2018, Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” / John 6:12b

The servant of the prophet Elisha worried how to feed a hundred people with food enough for half that many. But Elisha simply said, “Give it to the people to eat.” Elisha trusted that God would provide. The people ate their fill and there were left-overs for another day. / 2 Kings 4:42-44

Saint Paul emphasizes that all who follow Jesus share an unshakable source of unity. His words have echoed through the centuries like an anthem for the Church: “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.” When we live in a way that preserves this unity, we can contribute to peace and harmony in the world around us. / Ephesians 4:1-6

Jesus went up on a mountain not knowing that that a crowd of five thousand would soon gather around him. The crowd was determined to hear him speak and to see what great signs he might work. Jesus was not concerned about how this huge crowd was to be fed on a few loaves and fishes. He took the bread, broke it, blessed it and gave it to his guests. When the crowd realized that everyone had been fed and there were still leftovers, they were astounded. They wanted to carry Jesus off on their shoulders and make him their king. / John 6:1-15

El sirviente del profeta Eliseo tenía la preocupación de quién podría dar de comer a cien personas cuando sólo tenía comida para cincuenta. Eliseo simplemente dijo: “Dáselo a la gente para que coma”. Eliseo confió en que Dios provee. El pueblo comió hasta llenarse y sobró para el día siguiente. / 2 Reyes 4:42-44

San Pablo pone énfasis en como los seguidores de Jesús comparten una fuente de unidad irrompible. Sus palabras han resonado durante siglos en un himno de la Iglesia: “Un solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo Bautismo, un solo Dios y Padre”. Cuando vivimos de manera que preservamos la unidad, podemos contribuir a la paz y a la armonía en el mundo a nuestro alrededor. / Efesios 4:1-6

Jesús fue a la montaña sin darse cuenta de que una multitud de cinco mil personas se iba a reunir para escucharlo. Ellos estaban dispuestos a escuchar lo que él tenía que decir y ver las grandes señales que obraba. Jesús no estaba preocupado de que la multitud tenía hambre y sólo tenía cinco panes y dos peces. Él tomó el pan, lo partió, lo bendijo y lo dio a las personas. La multitud se quedó pasmada cuando se dio cuenta de que todos habían comido y que había sobrado. Attention!! Saturday mass at 6:30 am has been canceled start-ing the first Saturday of September. The only mass available for Sat-urday will be at 6:30 pm.
