Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. Amen.

On Wednesday, November 8, at 7:00 pm, we will celebrate a special Memorial Mass at St. Ansgar for all those who have lost a loved one in the past year (from November 2016 to October 2017). If you have lost a spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, relative or friend and would like to participate in the candle-lighting ceremony during this liturgy, please notify the Parish Office (630-837-5553 x 100) by Monday, November 6. Tell us the name of the deceased and the name of the person who will come forward to receive the lighted candle when the deceased’s name is read aloud. Everyone is invited to join us in this special Memorial Mass. It is a wonderful opportunity to show our unity as a parish family and be of comfort to those who have lost someone near and dear to them.

Jesus, the Poorest of the Poor

In the many writings of St. Peter Julian Eymard, he emphasizes the virtues that Our Lord in the Eucharist is now practicing in order to inspire us to follow His example. Among these virtues, none is more basic than His poverty. Jesus Christ is to be imitated twice over: once as the God-man who lived a mortal life in Palestine and once again as the same Incarnated God who is now living His glorified in the Blessed Sacrament. Both levels of imitation are part of our faith. It takes a spiritual genius like St. Peter Julian Eymard to remind us that Christ if to be followed and His virtues imitated here and now as they are lived by Him in the Holy Eucharist. Jesus wanted to be the poorest of the poor, in order to be able to stretch out His hand to the lowliest of men and say to them, “I am your brother.” No man, in fact, was ever born in more wretched conditions that the Word Incardinate, who had the litter of animal for His cradle and their shelter for His home. As a child, he fed on barley bread, the bread of the poor and during His apostolic life he lived on alms. He died in a state of destitution that will never be equaled. And now that He is risen an glorious, He still takes poverty for His companion. Jesus, dwelling in our midst in His Sacrament, is poorer that during the days of His mortal life. His home may be but a poor church, worse perhaps that the cave of Bethlehem; His tabernacle consists of four boards, which often are worm-eaten. His priests or His faithful people must give Him everything; the matter of the saacrament , the bread and the wine; the linen on which to place Him or with which to cover Him; the corporals, the altar cloths. He brings nothing from heaven except his adorable person and His love. —St. Peter Julian Eymard.

En los muchos escritos de San Pedro Julián Eymard, el enfatiza las virtudes que nuestro Señor en la Eucaristía está practicando ahora para inspirarnos a seguir su ejemplo. Como un niño, se alimenta de pan de cebada, el pan de los pobres y durante su vida apostólica, vivió de limosnas. Él murió en un estado de miseria que nunca será igualado.
