PASTORAL REFLECTIONS

Dear Parishioners,

This week we celebrate two special days in the liturgical life of the church. On Wednesday, November 1st, we celebrate All Saints Day. It is a holy day of obligation, meaning that all Catholics are obligated to participate at Mass on this day. This day we celebrate the great communion of saints who are known to us by virtue of their canonizations. We venerate those who, through God’s grace, has been canonized by the Pope and are now intercessors for us here on earth. We also celebrate the fact that there are also many saints around the throne of God who are not officially recognized as canonized saints, but are in heaven and behold the beatific vision of seeing the face of God. May their prayers help us to obtain the joys of heaven.

On November 2nd, we commemorate all the Faithful Departed, All Souls Day. This is a very special day in the liturgical year. On this day, the church in a special way prays for all those who have died and are in need of our prayers to obtain that beatific vision. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God.”

Here at St. Mary, a special Mass will be offered on November 2nd at 7:30 PM for all the deceased. We will also remember those who have died and were buried from our parish since November 2nd of last year. Please join us in remembering our beloved dead and praying for them that they will now be counted among the communion of saints. If any of our parishioners would also like to have a loved one remembered who passed away in the past year, please fill out the form below and return it to the rectory or call the rectory (201-768-7565) with their name no later than Thursday morning so that they too will be remembered at Mass.

Sincerely in the Lord,

Fr. Joe

Name of Deceased to be remembered on All Soul’s Day

ST. MARY PARISH IS A PARISH THAT PRACTICES STEWARDSHIP

SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS ON STEWARDSHIP

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22: 37

Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money, power, status or some personal possession greater than your love for God? Do you really recognize that everything you have and everything you are is a gift from God? The good news – it’s not too late to put God first in your life in all things.
