Pasto

r’s Letter

Dear Parishioners:

I would like to strongly recommend a website to you: Catholic Action Network (CAN). Go to

www.nyscatholic.org. Click on “TAKE ACTION” on the black Tool Bar on top. Once you register, the

Catholic bishops already have a letter prepared for you to send via email. Also, you will receive “alerts”

in your mail for legislation important for Catholics. I highly recommend signing up and letting our Catho-

lic voices be heard! I just sent a letter to Governor Cuomo because there is legislation before him which

would reduce the amount of money New York State reimburses the Catholic schools for services mandat-

ed by the State of New York. State aid to public and charter schools increased by 4% but the Governor

wants to cut the monies given to Catholic schools. This is unfair. This issue and other issues affecting the

Catholic church need to be addressed by us, the voters. Let your voice be heard!

This is also the time of year when the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) pushes for donations,

especially from children. Before donating to UNICEF, please pause to consider the following:

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is a UN organization that is, according to its website, “on

a mission to reach every child and ensure their well-being, no matter where they live in this world.” How-

ever, abortion is a priority in the UNICEF worldview. In May 2016, UNICEF Canada pushed for assisted

suicide and euthanasia for children, arguing that it conformed with the UN Convention on the

Rights of the Child. Manitoba Senator Don Plett stated; “[the UN General Assembly mandated UNICEF]

to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help them meet their basic needs, and to expand their

opportunities to reach their full potential. Do you not see a major problem with the consideration of allow-

ing vulnerable children to request assisted death? Have these children…reached their full potential?”

Further, UNICEF has called for legal abortion in the Dominican Republic, Peru, Nicaragua, the Philip-

pines, and other countries worldwide. In 2007, UNICEF joined Planned Parenthood International and the

UN’s population control arm UNFPA in sponsoring a women’s conference, 1/3 of which was dedicated to

promoting abortions. Carol Bellamy was executive director of UNICEF from 1995 until 2005. During her

tenure, UNICEF became a more direct force behind the promotion of abortion and abortifacient contracep-

tives worldwide. UNICEF has called for the right of children to confidential sexual and reproductive

health services and information – access to ‘safe abortion’ and the morning after pill.

These are not values that we espouse as Catholics and I urge you not to be duped by the veneer of

UNICEF that they help children in need.

Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.

In Christ,

Fr. Brian

PS: I would like to thank the following people who took part in our Parish-Clean-up Day. We did a

lot of weeding, pruning of vines/tree branches and fall plantings.

Special thanks goes to: Clara Nam, Peggy Kapalko, Ray Taffner, Ed and Terry Terribile, Patrick

Cunningham, Elizabeth Steffens, Dottie Perdue, Roberta Polumbo, Gail Sloam, John Norton

Captain Bill and the Aziz family: Thomas Sr., Thomas Jr., Ashleigh Lynn and Susan.

In addition, I want to thank i-Delizia Deli. They are located on the corner of Hunter Avenue

and Udall Road. They generously donated egg sandwiches and other food for all the volunteers

and they donated drinks as well. When you stop by, make sure to thank them for their kindness.

They are always generous to our parish.

the faith community. We share how God has perfectly created us and His presence in our lives.

Confirmation 2017

On Wednesday, November 8, Bishop Robert Brennan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of

Rockville Centre will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to the candidates of our

Parish. These young women and men are the chosen members of this community who have

studied, served and prepared for this Sacrament.

During the past few weeks, they have continued their journey towards Confirmation and even greater involve-

ment in the life of our church. The Confirmation Candidates of our Parish have participated in “Spirit Nights”

with their parents and sponsors. These times together were an opportunity for them to experience how im-

portant it is to be active, faith-filled members of the church community. The last “Spirit Night” will be Sunday,

November 5 at the 6:00pm Mass with our Parish family. Please pray for our Confirmation Candidates as they

embrace this very important commitment in their faith journey and that they will continue to be strengthened,

loved and supported by YOU ... their Parish family.

Thank you for participating in Our Blood Drive on October 4, 2017 Total Units Donated - 43

Candle which will be placed in the Tabernacle area and lit on All Souls Day. This symbolic

light will remain in the Tabernacle area for the life of the candle (approximately a week). This is

a beautiful way to remember our deceased loved ones.

The Loving Memory Candles will be available after all the Masses on Oct. 28/29 and at the

special Mass of Remembrance, followed by hospitality, on Saturday, November 4 at 11:30am.

Let us remember in prayer this day all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith and

for their families who mourn their passing - may they know of Christ’s healing love.

All Saints’ Day Wednesday, November 1 is All Saints’ Day, a holy day of obligation. We will

celebrate Mass on Tuesday, October 31 at 5:00pm and on Wednesday, November 1

at 8:30am, 12:10pm and 7:30pm.

All Souls’ Day Thursday, November 2 is All Souls’ Day, the Commemoration of All the

Faithful Departed. We will celebrate Mass at 8:30am, 12:10pm and 7:30pm.

This is Jesus Christ’s invitation every first Saturday of the month. The Blessed

Sacrament is taken to the altar after the 5:00pm Mass and will be exposed up to 9:50pm.

Everyone is invited to spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament to offer prayers,

petitions and thanksgiving to Jesus. Nocturnal Adoration will follow the 5:00pm Mass on

Saturday, November 4, concluding with Benediction at 9:50pm. Please come and

pray with us. All are invited and welcome. Bring a friend!

Something

to Draw

Draw a picture of yourself praying to God for someone who hurt your feelings.

Prayer

Dear God, Help me to love You and other people more and more every day.

Sharing the Gospel

When you have a choice to make, think about what God wants. Make sure your choices are good and that they help other people. When you fol-low God’s example, you will be ready to love other people. With God’s help, you can be gentle, forgiving and kind.

As a family, help an elderly person in your neighborhood. Help them with Fall projects around their home, or help them clean their yard.
