Save the date! THIRST 2016 October 28-30—Bismarck, ND

After a huge, positive turnout for THIRST three years ago, the chance to encounter the love of Christ in a setting like no other will return on Oct. 28-30.

The event will, once again, be held at the Bis-marck Event Center and offer a schedule of influential speakers and evange-lists in celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Plans are still being finalized, but the list of speakers includes most notably, Cardinal Edwin O’Brien, who serves as the Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. This organization’s principal mis-sion is to reinforce the practice of Christian life by its members in absolute fidelity to the pope and sustain and assist the religious, spiritual, charitable and social works and rights of the Catholic Church and Christians in the Holy Land.

Other speakers include: Fr. Dwight Longenecker, Fr. Scott Traynor, Leah Darrow, Fran Beach, Judy Hehr and Dr. Ray Guarendi, the popular author and radio talk show host. Local speakers include Monsignors James Shea and Thomas Richter. Other speakers will likely be added to the lineup, as well as entertainment and other features. More details will follow in the coming months.

The late Michelle Duppong, headed up the plans for the previous conference while working as the diocese’s coordinator for the Year of Faith in 2013. She shared these words about the THIRST 2013: “Please join us for this confer-ence! Why? Because Jesus is real and you and I need Him. We need His love. We need His mercy and healing. We need His encouragement. We need to know what He has made us for. God will be changing people’s lives at this event—guaranteed. Will you let Him meet you?”

Her passion for bringing others to know the Lord rang true then, and still applies today. We invite you to attend the life-changing THIRST 2016

Stewardship Moment July 17, 2016 – 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“…I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God.” – Colossians 1:25

Believe it or not, we are all called to evangelize – to continuously grow in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus and to share it with others. We may

not be called to evangelize like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share our Faith with those closest to us, like our family and friends.

Statue that has been placed on the balcony of the choir loft.

Thank you for your kind generosity!

Prayer for today: Lord, walk with me today as I encounter others in the world, help me to see them

through Your eyes and find the good in everyone I meet. Help me not to complain or stress out about little things, instead show me the many ways that You give me blessings and the graces from above. Let me appreciate this beautiful world and the people You created and placed in my life, even if they are there just for a moment. Every moment of life is awesome and I give You thanks, O Lord, for giving me life and breathing Your Spirit in me. May I be worthy of that gift. Thank You, Jesus, thank You.

We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.

Saint Vincent de Paul The deathbed confession of a dying servant opened Vincent's eyes to the crying spiritual needs of the peasant-ry of France. This seems to have been a crucial moment in the life of the man from a small farm in Gascony, France, who had become a priest with little more ambition than to have a comfortable life.

It was the Countess de Gondi (whose servant he had helped) who persuaded her husband to endow and support a group of able and zealous missionaries who would work among poor tenant farmers and country people in general. Vincent was too humble to accept leadership at first, but after working for some time in Paris among imprisoned

galley-slaves, he returned to be the leader of what is now known as the Congregation of the Mission, or the Vincentians. These priests, with vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and stability, were to devote themselves entirely to the people in smaller towns and villages.

Later, Vincent established confraternities of charity for the spiritual and physical relief of the poor and sick of each parish. From these, with the help of St. Louise de Marillac, came the Daughters of Charity, "whose convent is the sickroom, whose chapel is the parish church, whose cloister is the streets of the city." He organized the rich women of Paris to collect funds for his mis-sionary projects, founded several hospitals, collected relief funds for the vic-tims of war and ransomed over 1,200 galley slaves from North Africa. He was zealous in conducting retreats for clergy at a time when there was great laxity, abuse and ignorance among them. He was a pioneer in clerical training and was instrumental in establishing seminaries.

Most remarkably, Vincent was by temperament a very irascible person—even his friends admitted it. He said that except for the grace of God he would have been "hard and repulsive, rough and cross." But he became a tender and affectionate man, very sensitive to the needs of others.

Pope Leo XIII made him the patron of all charitable societies. Outstanding among these, of course, is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, founded in 1833 by his admirer Blessed Frédéric Ozanam (September 7).

Quote: "Strive to live content in the midst of those things that cause your discontent. Free your mind from all that troubles you, God will take care of things. You will be unable to make haste in this [choice] without, so to speak, grieving the heart of God, because he sees that you do not honor him sufficiently with holy trust. Trust in him, I beg you, and you will have the fulfillment of what your heart desires" (St. Vincent de Paul, Letters).
