Stewardship Moment July 10, 2016 – 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’” – Luke 10:37 This was Jesus’ command at the end of the Good Samaritan story. But did you know that the Samaritans and Jews despised each other? The moral of the story is to love our neighbor, who may be someone you don’t know,

someone that looks different than you or someone you don’t like, without expecting anything in return.

This Diocese has 80 pilgrims head-ing to World Youth Day in Kra-kow, Poland on Sunday, July 17 and will come back August 3. Please pray for their safety, that no physical harm comes to any of them. Please pray for their spiritu-ality, that they find peace and con-tentment by growing closer to Christ as they encounter Him on their pilgrimage. Please pray that they enjoy the culture that Poland has to offer as they head to a coun-try much different than ours!

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, You alone know our hearts, what we feel, what we want, what we need. You

know our prayer before we speak it. Hear us, O Lord, and have pity on us. We love You, we adore You, we glorify You. Let Your face shine upon us and fill us with Your light so that we can be a beacon to others. Transform us, Lord, to become more like You. Praise You, Jesus!

We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.

Mass with

Bishop John T. Folda

Saturday September 10, 2016

5:00 pm St. Anthony’s, Selz, ND

The Lord’s mercies are abounding. Great is Thy love for me. Amen

Sr. Mary Pieta, S.V. Attending: Annunciation Convent, Suffren, NY From: Sts. Anne & Joachim Parish, Fargo, ND

1. Who was the most influential person to you as a child? My parents really take this role, but if I were to say someone aside from my mom and dad, it would be my Grandma Sue Breen. She had a huge role in loving me abundantly, spoiling me generously, beautifully affirming my dignity, and encouraging my faith in the Lord.

2. Did you have any pets as a child? What kind? We had a variety of pets over the years (never more than one kind of animal at a time), ranging from a handful of fish, to a couple of golden labs, but our longest lasting ones were our farm cats (Simba and Smart-ie), to keep the mice away from the field next door!

3. What did you do during the summertime as a child? As a child, my mom had a daycare, so we spent most of our summer helping out at home with the younger children (much playful use of the imagination), visits to the library, and taking a two week camp-ing trip with our family across the U.S. (usually to the mountains or one of the coasts.)

4. What would people you know find surprising about you as a teen? Honestly, for most of my teen years, I usually ran the other way when people suggested I visit a reli-gious community. I had an initial attraction to religious life in 7th grade, of the joy in being only for God, but I also think my perception of religious life was a rather weak and poor one at the time. I wanted to BE holy, I just didn’t want the superficial image of “looking holy” to follow me…wow, God has a sense of humor!

5. In what ways have your parents influenced you the most? My parents taught me the importance of a marriage (or vocation, really) lived well, and the reality that a voca-tion will have struggles even if it is good – to persevere! They taught me also the neces-sity of time spent well, to have a good sense of humor, the importance of my faith, and honoring the sacredness of my being.

6. What is your most memorable travel experience? Like I said earlier, my family has travelled a lot, and I have taken a few pilgrimage trips as well. But I think the single most influential one was World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002. Seeing the people of the church, the Sainted John Paul II, and our “pilgrimaging” together gave me the courage to live a changed life – and started my daily Mass attendance!

7. If you could possess one super-human power, what would it be? Flying! What a thrill, and what a new perspective it would give to things! (I have no need for fabulous extra sensory abilities!)

8. What is something that you’d love to be great at? I would love to be a great lover – to love well. That’s my goal in life! Beyond that, I think I would love to improve at piano and guitar!

9. What is one lesson you’ve learned in life? Never take a person for granted – there is always something new you can find out about a person you have thought you’ve “figured out” – what a joy to discover!

10. What is something you’ve learned about the faith since entering formation? Jesus’ mercy is real. You don’t have to commit mortal sin to know you need a Savior, and that He meets you in the confessional with love. Jesus is so good to me, far beyond my understanding, and I think it’s because of that, that I can gain a greater appreciation for the need for compassion towards others.
