Football

• Toni Power has been selected in the NZ under 15 football team.

Sam Sheaff and Kaia McKenzie competed in the Waihi “Half-Nugget” Duathlon on Saturday May 7th. The event consisted of a 10KM Off-road run, followed by a 23km mountain bike ride. Both courses are quite challenging, starting from Waihi Beach, through rugged bush trails, farmland, single tracks and ending up in Waihi town. There were plenty of hills, obstacles and river crossings to get through, but luckily the weather played its part as it was a beautiful day. Sam Sheaff completed the run and was the first team competitor into the transition area. Kaia then had a good ride back down into Waihi, which meant the boys finished as Winners of the under 18 Teams

Mount College has a record number of 11 Basketball teams playing in the local Basketball competition on Wednesday evenings at the ASB Arena. The feature game of last week was the Senior A Boys Team who played Te Puke High School in the Premier Division winning 63-48. Our Junior A Boys are also playing in the premier division and won 78-20 against Bethlehem College Junior A. Junior A girls had a good 54-28 win with only six fit players against Tauranga Girls White. Tonight’s draw will see both our Senior A boys and girls teams play against Waihi’s Senior A teams.

In Football the Girls 1st XI Football team started the season with a 3 to 2 win over Te Puke High School and Mount Milan Boys team who are playing in the Premier competition lost 2 to 4 against a very strong Rotorua United U19 team. Mount Red Boys lost 2 to 5 against Trident 1st XI in the Division 1 U19 Competition

Mount Maunganui College Netball have had a great start to the 2016 season with many of our teams coming away with exceptional wins in the first two rounds of games.

In week one our Premier One team had a strong first quarter and took the win over Te Puke High School Senior A by 49-32. The team has also had a convincing win over Bethlehem Premier 2 last Friday. Our Premier Two team had two tough games against Matamata New World A and Te Puke High School Premier One losing both games. The Reserve 1 team had their first game of the season on Friday night and won against Te Puke Senior Blue 33-3.

Mount College Junior A came up against Tauranga Girls Junior A in the first round and was defeated 61-22. Our Junior B team has had two convincing wins against Otumoetai College Junior Development (39-11) and Otumoetai Junior 2 (26-21).

In the Saturday afternoon Junior competition the Junior C team had two very close games against Bethlehem College Junior Reds where they secured the win 14-12 and lost against Tauranga Girls 10A 18-14. In the first week of games all our year 9 teams had fantastic performancesall taking away convincing wins. Our year 9 Rimu, Kowhai and Whero teams also took wins on the second round of games with 9 Rimu playing Katikati Flyers winning 30-16, 9 Kowhai played Katikati Golden Kiwis winning 40-0 and 9 Whero won 16-6 against Otumoetai 9 Green.

Week 1 Results:

It was a mixed bag of results for the MMC Rugby teams this weekend, starting with a 123 - 7 win for the U14's over a Tauranga Boys C team. The boys will take confidence from this game and look to build on their performance in the coming weeks. The U15's showed an exceptional attitude and work ethic in their game and now have a good base to build their performance each week. The U15's fell short of Tauranga Boys B in the weekend. The 1st XV came up against a tough Te Puke High School. The boys were in the game, dominating possession and territory early in the second half. However, Te Puke ran away with the game with four tries in the last eight minutes. All teams impressed their coaches and school in terms of how they presented themselves on and off the field. We expect the boys to improve every week.

Week 2 Results:

• First Xl vs. Trident lost 0-50 • Under 15’s vs. Tauranga Boys Under 15 A lost 0-20 • Under 14’s vs. Otumoetai lost 40-22
