FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora koutou Teaching in an intermediate school and working with emerging adolescents is both rewarding and challenging, but, we love it! Adolescence (10-14 years) is marked as a period of developmental change, second only in intensity to the first two years of life. Students are undergoing physical, emotional, cognitive and social changes within the brain. This week, we have funded the Attitude Team, to facilitate sessions for our students and for parents. The sessions will examine puberty, the major physical changes, emotional changes and key healthy head messages. Student sessions will be run through the day and we invite you all to parent sessions in the evening. Students are welcome to attend this also. We will be really interested in community feedback as to the value of these sessions. We hope that you can attend. Enrolment Processes Our prospectus was delivered to all of our contributing primary schools this week. If you have not received a prospectus contact the school office. On Wednesday, we are hosting meetings at Arataki School (3.30-4.30 pm) and at Tahatai Coast School (6.30-7.30 pm). Our Information Evening will take place on Tuesday 15 August, at 6.30 pm. The school will be open for inspection from 6.00pm. In zone and out of zone enrolments close on 22 September 2017. Good luck to our Elite winter sports teams who compete in the WBOPPB Winter Tournament today. A big thank you to families who are hosting billets from Gisborne and/or international visitors from Japan. Have a great week Ma te wa Ms M/Whaea Lisa
SCHOOL SELF REVIEW [email protected]
As part of our regular school self-review, our Board of Trustees is interested in feedback from our community, students and staff about their thoughts of our school. To gather this information we are going to use an online survey, developed by NZCER (New Zealand Council for Educational Research). For families without access to internet, hard copies will be made available and on being returned to school, the information will be inputted. All online completed surveys go directly to NZCER via the provided link (this will be emailed to parents, early next week). Our students and staff will complete the survey online, at school. The data collection will be closed off at the end of Week 5, 25th August. NZCER will analyse the information and send us the data. For this process we have chosen the Inclusive Practices Survey. What are inclusive education practices? Inclusive education practices are about ensuring all students are made to feel welcome at school and are able to take part in all aspects of school life. Diversity is respected and school-wide practices and classroom programmes respond to students’ different needs, skills, interests, cultures and backgrounds.

MOUNTIES GOT TALENT 2017
This is more of a ‘Talent Show’ rather than a ‘Talent Quest’ (although in the show there will be a 1st-3rd placing). We are encouraging a range of students to come forward to exhibit talents that we may not have seen from them in the past (eg. a dancer might choreograph their own dance, a band member might do a non-tutored guitar duet etc.) We also want to see magicians, beat boxers, puppeteers, poets, acapella singers, drama skits, balancing acts, comedians etc. Pre-audition info letters have already gone out. These letters can be collected from Whaea Sara or Ms Harrison. Auditions Week 5. Performance Week 10 assembly.
URGENT
Please return any tracksuits or sports
uniforms to school as soon as possible.
These need to be re-issued to new
players.
Many thanks!
