FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora koutou,
Another big week. On Tuesday night we hosted an
information evening for our Omanu year 6's, due to
a clash on our original open evening. Well done to
Max Haswell, Olivia Carr-Manoit, Hope Gibbard, Ben
Lindsey and Neve Ganley, who spoke so beautifully
on the evening.
Yesterday we hosted our open day. Our student
council acted as tour guides and showed year 6
students and their families around the school. Not
only did our counsellors do a great job, but the
whole school showed just how calm and learning
focused our school is. Well done team!
Enrolments close on 16th September. Please make
sure that we adhere to this deadline. Tell friends
and family to get those enrolment forms in quick!
On Thursday, Mrs Woods travelled to Rotorua with
our young scientists and technologists to exhibit at
the Bay of Plenty Regional Science Fair. The
standard was particularly high this year, but, we are
hopeful that we have been competitive enough to
win some of the awards. Watch this space!
On Sunday Mrs Howard and I fly to China and Korea
with Education Tauranga. We will be marketing for
international students. The revenue gained is used
for staffing, and in 2016 we have lowered class
numbers by approximately ten students per class.
Good luck to netballers for semis and finals on
Saturday. Play hard and play fair!
Have a great week!

ROCKSHOP BANDQUEST
Rockshop Bandquest is the nationwide music contest for intermediate and primary students. Bandquest is in
its third year as the younger sibling of Smokefree Rockquest.
“Rockshop Bandquest” is a platform for the next generation of contemporary musicians to step out and perform
in a supportive and encouraging competition format, with a focus on education, inspiration and entertainment.
Rockshop Bandquest is for bands of two or more members, younger than Year 9. They play a short set of
covers or original songs. There is an award for the best original song to encourage bands to write their own
material, but the focus is on performance skills.
Mount Maunganui Intermediate entered three bands. They competed at the Otumoetai College Performing Arts
Centre on Wednesday, 17th August 2016. This was an AMAZING NIGHT! Our bands did us proud and we
rocked the stage.

MOUNT WATER POLO TAKE OUT OPEN GRADE AT WINTER FEST
Last Friday, our Open Team and Girls Team headed
to Auckland to compete in the annual Year 7 & 8

The girl’s team learnt a lot and improved throughout

one draw in cross over play to progress through to
the semifinal. In a close game we were the victors
6-5, over Glen Eden Intermediate. In the final we
played St Kentigans playing our best game, to win
7-2.

INDOOR BOWLS
On Friday, 19th August, our twenty member Indoor Bowls team took part in a pre-AIMS Games Pairs
Tournament, run by the Tauranga Indoor Bowls Association at the Mount Sports Centre. We played teams
from Tauranga and Otumoetai Intermediates, Aquinas College, Matahui Road, Pyes Pa, Tahatai Coast &
Pongakawa Schools.
What a successful day it was for us! Five teams qualified for post section play by winning three or four games.
The five pairs who didn’t qualify had very close losses. Stephanie Price and Sophie Ruddell reached the last
eight. Daniel Whyte and Ryan Daelemans made the last sixteen. The semifinal consisted of three Mount
Intermediate teams, which resulted in two of our teams playing off for the Gold and Silver medals.
Congratulations to Matthew Adlam and Angus
Goodwin who came 1st. They finished the day
undefeated.
Olivia Marlowe and Junhyuk Yun placed 2nd. A close
game between these rivals.
Hannah Cross and Mia Johanson came 4th, with
Otumoetai Intermediate just beating them for the
bronze medal.
Team members were:
Matthew Adlam and Angus Goodwin, Olivia Marlowe
and Junhyuk Yun, Hannah Cross and Mia Johanson,
Stephanie Price and Sophie Ruddell, Beth Simpson
and Savannah Svebakk-Bohn, Kaden Adlington and
Cooper McKay, Simon Wagstaff and Morgan McKay,
Joe Hoskins and Roman Vincent, Daniel Whyte and
Ryan Daelemans, Ben Davies and Ethan Settle.
All students were great ambassadors for our school, following our coastal values and showing good
sportsmanship. They were a pleasure to take out of the school.
The NZCT AIMS Games, in just 2 weeks, is our next
challenge.
Wish us luck!
Good bowling.
