so festival 2013
DESCRIPTION
Between June 28 and July 7, 2013, SO Festival 2013 is set to transform Lincolnshire’s coastal district of East Lindsey into an international arts venue with spectacular visual art, street theatre, world-class performers and dance acts. Since 2009, East Lindsey District Council has worked with Arts Council England to stage one of the East Midlands’ largest and most diverse outdoor cultural events – SO Festival! Full of colour, dance, arts and music, SO Festival had strong links with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Cultural Olympiad, having been staged on Open Weekend in both 2010 and 2011. SO Festival doesn’t just bring arts, entertainment and culture to East Lindsey, it also attracts thousands of people from near and far. This helps the local economy and also challenges people’s perceptions of the district and encourages them to spend time with us, discovering the many attractions on offer in East Lindsey.TRANSCRIPT
Programme 2013 For more information visit: www.sofestival.org2 3
We are extremely grateful for the continued support of Arts Council England and the vision of Magnetic Events, which has once again produced this year’s festival for us. We would also like to place
on record our thanks to our funding partners for supporting the delivery of the festival, including private sector sponsors who are acknowledged throughout the programme.
Growing on our success from last year, SO Festival 2013 brings more new and innovative work to the District. The Festival is for all residents and visitors in East Lindsey - we sincerely hope our programme will attract new visitors to our vibrant and varied part of England.
This year, as well as street theatre and music, we will be showcasing an amazing programme of dance and we’re honoured to have attracted some of the UK’s most acclaimed outdoor performers - a real testimony to the high regard in which SO Festival is now held at a national level.
Whether you are a new visitor looking forward to experiencing something different and new for the first time, a resident welcoming the return of the Festival’s colourful tapestry of art and culture, or a business hoping to capitalise on the influx of potential new business on behalf of East Lindsey District Council I hope you enjoy SO Festival 2013.
Councillor Adam Grist, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, East Lindsey District Council
Welcome to
SO Festival 2013!A year on from the visit of the Olympic Torch to East Lindsey and the ten days of amazing art, culture and sport events, we once again welcome SO Festival to the district for what promises to be another memorable experience.
Arts Council England is thrilled to have been able to fund and support SO Festival for a fifth consecutive year. We’ve been a part of SO Festival since its introduction, and we’re incredibly proud to see it develop into a cultural highlight in the East Midlands.
SO Festival brings a host of highly engaging and entertaining art to East Lindsey which attracts people, not just from East Lindsey, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands but from across the UK too. I am sure you will be amazed with what the SO Festival has to offer.
Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England
Centrica Energy and our partners in the Lincs offshore wind farm, DONG Energy and Siemens Project Ventures, are delighted to support SO Festival in 2013. This year is a special one for Centrica in particular as it marks ten years since we announced our intention to invest in wind farms for the UK.
In this time, we’ve all been made to feel very welcome by the people of Skegness and are pleased to once again have the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ by supporting the festival, which is set to entertain and delight children and adults alike.
Simon Merriweather, Managing Director Power Generation, Centrica Energy
Each year the bar is raised in terms of our audience’s expectations and the ambition of East Lindsey District Council to deliver a festival that has national profile and brings people to the district. This year, the quality and breadth of programming is absolutely amazing and far beyond what other festivals of a similar age can hope to deliver. I think it will be an amazing experience and encourage as many people as possible to come out and see what SO Festival has to offer.
Robin Morley, Festival Director

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Offshore wind farms harness the natural power of the wind, and as anyone who has enjoyed a bracing walk in Skegness will tell you, it’s an energy that Lincolnshire’s coastline has in abundance. Construction of the Lincs wind farm, located 8 kilometres (5 miles) off the coast of Skegness has nearly finished. Once complete, it will be capable of producing enough electricity to meet the annual needs of more than 200,000 homes - that’s equivalent to two thirds of the homes in Lincolnshire.
www.centrica.com/renewables
Lincolnshire is not only a great place to visit for a day trip or holiday but its coastline has even more to offer those who have an interest in their environment.
