From the Principal’s desk:
“We acknowledge the Quandamooka people, the
Aboriginal Owners of the land where we gather today and pay our respects to Elders past, present and
emerging. We recognise their connection to Country and their role in caring for and maintaining Country
over thousands of years. May their strength and wisdom be with us today”.
Quote:
Children need to be challenged and pushed, not to the
point where they give up, but to the point where they
think: Wow, look at me go! Robert John

Illness
At present there are a number of nasty bugs doing the rounds of our community. These include cold and flu viruses and stomach bugs.
If your child presents with any symptoms of illness, please keep them home from school. In these trying times, the last thing we need is to put our school community further at risk. I greatly appreciate the diligence and responsible efforts of our school community to date

Breakfast for kids
Did you know …
One in five kids goes to school without eating breakfast. Having breakfast has been shown to have a positive impact on factors such as physical and mental health, social skills, concentration, behaviour, attendance, and academic outcomes. Breakfast for Kids is a not-for-profit organization which provides free breakfasts to disadvantaged young people, and breakfast food parcels to families with young children, here on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. We would like to say a huge thank you to Breakfast for kids who are still support our school community. Unfortunately, we can’t have our delicious pancakes each week, Breakfast for kids has provided some packaged foods that we will be able to offer in the mornings. Breakfast for kids have not only looked after our students this week, they have also looked after
our teachers with some delicious treats and beautiful, sweet smelling soaps. We are all very grateful.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
In week 3 and 4 for PBL we focused on Responsible: Follow Instructions the First Time.
In the Pause program we have been learning about the 3 parts of the brain. Here are some videos that you can watch at home with your child and learn about the brain. P-2: Watch short video that introduces the parts of the brain. Have students identify which animal is different for the 3 key areas of the brain that we are focusing on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPFKwu_quxI&feature=youtu.be

NCCD - Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
The NCCD takes place in August each year and it counts the number of students receiving an adjustment or 'help' due to a disability and the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students. Attached is an information sheet which outlines the facts and answers frequently asked questions.
Parents/carers are not required to provide any details to the school, this is just for your information only.
Thank you for continued support and cooperation in making Russell Island State School a great school!
Warmest regards
Jayne and Leanne
