I hope that these words provide some comfort to you all, about life as we currently know it, as they did to me at this time. Lessons from a teacher in China We are just finishing our 7th week of E-Learning, seven weeks of being mainly housebound and seven weeks of uncertainty. We are healthy, we are happy, and we are humbled. We are allowed to move around freely, most restaurants and shopping centres are now open, and life is slowly coming back to our city. As we watch the rest of the world begin their time inside; here are some of my reflections on the last seven weeks: 1. Accept that you have no control over the situation. Let go of any thoughts of trying to plan too much for the next month or two. Things change so fast. Don't be angry and annoyed at the system. Anxiety goes down, and you make the best of the situation - whatever that might be for you. Accept that this is what it is and things will get easier. 2. Try not to listen to/read/watch too much media. It WILL drive you crazy. There is a thing as too much! 3. The sense of community I have felt during this time is incredible. I could choose who I wanted to spend my energy on - who I wanted to call, message and connect with and the quality of my relationships has improved. 4. Appreciate this enforced downtime. When do you ever have time like this? I will miss it when we go back to the fast-paced speed of the 'real world'. 5. Time goes fast. I still haven't picked up the ukulele I planned to learn, and there are box set TV shows I haven't watched yet. 6. You learn to appreciate the little things; sunshine through the window, flowers blossoming and being able to enjoy a coffee in a cafe. To those just beginning this journey, you will get through it. Listen to what you are told, follow the rules and look out for each other. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Hollydale News Hollydale Newsletter: 1st May 2020

Dear Parents and Carers, When thinking about what to write in what should have been the start of our Summer Term, I came across these reflections from a teacher in China.

As we watch the rest of the world begin their time inside; here are some of my reflections on the last seven weeks:

Take care and stay safe, Ms Reema Reid- Headteacher

Home Learning I do hope that you have managed to settle into some sort of routine over the past few weeks – this sense of routine will be important for us all, as we navigate through the uncertainty of the next few weeks. The website continues to be updated regularly to ensure that you have a wealth of activities to support your child at home. Please do check the Home Learning tab for the latest updates: https://hollydale.continio.co.uk/distance-learning/ Please also use this unique opportunity in your child’s lifetime to support them in learning in a wide range of areas, be this learning to bake, learning a language or simply enjoying a good book and puzzle together. These are the memories your child will take with them from this time with you at home – let’s make them special. I would like to make some recommendations that you may find useful:

Make the most of having no journey to school – get a little more sleep, with a ‘slightly’ later wake up time

Avoid later bedtimes though! Try and keep to the usual ‘school night’ schedule

Encourage interaction with others – phone calls rather than too much texting or social media

Watch out for emails and text messages from school – updates will be sent this way

Exercise – try to find an alternative to their PE lessons and playtimes e.g. walking, running, cycling

Family Time – where possible encourage children to work in communal spaces in the house, limiting ‘alone’ time

Tech Free Time - Have dedicated ‘screen free’ time each day – turn off all screens for good periods of time every day and especially before bedtime

Make the most of free time – encourage reading, creative activities, singing and dancing – perhaps even take up a new hobby!

As I hope you will have seen, the school’s Twitter account has remained active - so please do continue to share photos of your child’s learning via email or Class Dojos. With many of us working from home, as well as our children 'learning from home', we thought this video was a good reminder for adults and children about looking after our bodies whilst working on computers, especially laptops - please take a couple of minutes to watch it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Bp_Ury-PA4
