Itssodifficultrememberingallthethingsthathappenedinthepastmonth.WhenIfirstarrivedinItalytheEnglishteacheratmyschoolaskedifIwantedto

participateinthisprogramthattheschoolwasdoingwithaschoolinBelgrade,

Serbia.Now,whenIsayaskedImeanheautomaticallysignedmeupforitbut,hey!Imnotcomplaining!Howitworksis:TwentykidsfrommyschoolinItaly

(includingme)hostedtwentykidsfromaschoolinSerbiaforaweek,they

arrivedonSundaythe18thofMarchintheafternoonandleftthefollowingSundaymorning.Andnow,nextweek(the22nd28thofApril)thetwentyItalian

studentsaregoingtoBelgradeforaweek.ThewholepointofthisminiexchangeistocomparetheArtschoolinItalytotheArtschoolinSerbiaandtoexperience

notonlythedifferentpracticesandtypesofartthattheotherstudentsdo,but

alsothecultureANDtoimprovetheirlearningofEnglish(becauseinbothTriesteandBelgradethemostpopularlanguagelearntisEnglish).Somany

peopleweretellingmeOhwowwww!Youredoinganexchangewithinandexchange!ItslikethemovieInception!(IfyouhavntseenthemovieInceptionI

suggestyougetoutofyourchairthissecondandgoandwatchitButinInceptiontheyhavedreamswithinadreamsothatswhypeopleweresayingthat)

Anyway,theTrieste/Belgradeexchangeisobviouslyonlyhalfcompleted,butitwasverygoodformebecauseobviouslyImnewtothiscity,andmostofthe

thingswedidwiththeSerbianstudents,Ihadntseenordonebefore.AlsoIlearntalotaboutmynewhome.Welearntalotaboutthehistoryofthe

monumentshereinTrieste,andwealsovisitedtheSerbianchurch,situatedin

PiazzaUnita(themainpiazzainthecity).IseethischurchbasicallyeverydaywhenIwalkpast,butIhadneverbeeninsidebefore.

OntheTuesdaywenttoVenicewiththeSerbianstudents(ifyourememberfrom

mylastreportIhadbeentoVeniceforCarnivale)sothiswasmysecondtimein

Venice.However,myfirsttimeinVenicewasntorganisedverywell,sowedidntseemanyattractionsforverylong,butthistimewesawtheGuggenheim

Museum.UsuallywhenIgotoartmuseumsthereareworksthatIlikebutI

wouldneverhanginmyhouse(tooboringoruglyorrealisticformytaste)buttheGuggenheimMuseuminVeniceconsistsofmodernartsuchasCubism,

SurrealismandAbstractExpressionismandthereforehadnotonlyalotofmyfavouriteartists(exceptforBrettWhitelyhesmyalltimefavouritebutIdont

thinktheGuggenheimhasanyAussieartists)butIalsofoundartiststhatIhadneverheardofbefore.

IforgottomentionthateveryoneispairedupinthisexchangeoneItalianwithoneSerbian,andthispersoniswhohostsyou.MySerbianstudentisagirl

namedMarija,buteverybodycallsherMasha(becauseMarijaisthemostcommonnameeverinSerbia,all20oftheSerbianstudentsthereare4Marijas)

Sheis18thisyear,thereforeayearyoungerthanme,andherEnglishisextremelygood.ThefirstdayorsoIwasabitnervousbecauseIwasafraidshedidntreallylikemeandmyhostmum(shewasveryquiet)butbytheendofthe

weekweweregoodfriendsandshewassadwhenshehadtoleave.Imexcited

andcurioustogotoSerbianextweek,IknowitsacompletelydifferentcountrytoItaly(andAustralia).BelowisapicutreofmeandMashaontheGrande

Canale.

WiththeSerbianswealsovisitedtheCastelloMiramare,thefamouscastleof

Trieste.

Thismonthformehasalsobeenmymonthofcooking.AndIhopeitsthefirstofmany!MygoodfriendTeresa,whoImetontheseconddayofmyexchange,has

notonlybeenagreatfriendsofar,butshestaughtmeaboutTriesteandshown

meinterestingbarstogoto,andshopstoshopin,sheshelpedmeSOmuchwithmyItalian,wealwaysgoouttogetherand,shetaughtmehowtomakefresh

pasta.Forthis,Icannotthankherenough.WithmyotherfriendCarlos(whos

theotherRotarystudentinTriestehesAmericanIthinkIvementionedhimbefore)wespentanightinTeresaskitchenbeinglittleItalianchefs.Lordknows,

beforeIcameheretheonlythingsIcouldcookwellweretoastand2minutenoodles.ButnowIcangladlysaythatImabletocookadecentitalianmeal

(Mum,Ibetyourehappy!).

WeallknowthatEastercameandwentquicklythisyear.IreallywishIcouldsaythesameabouttheamountoffoodgoingthroughmybody,butImprettysure

thekilosfromEasterareheretostayfornow.

Anyway!ItalianEasterislikeaslightlylessexaggeratedItalianChristmas.But

theamountoffoodthereisisstillabsolutelyridiculous.ForEasterSunday,the

family(Grandparentsandcousinsetcetc)werehavinglunchatmyhostAuntyshouseandmeandmymumwereinchargeofdeserts.Thisishowmyfirst

cookinglessonwithmymum(thegreatestandbestcookintheentireuniverse)cameabout.ThedaybeforeEasterwestartedcooking(accompaniedbyTeresa)

at10amandfinishedat5pm.WemadeoneCrostata,oneTortaalCioccolato,one

TortadiLimoneand5Putizzas.MymumhadboughtmeanewlittlenotebookespeciallyforwritingrecipesinandafteronedayIhadwrittendown4new

recipes!

chocolateeggswithapresentinside!SoprettymuchitslikeChristmasbutwithchocolateaswell.Myhostmumgavemeaneastereggwitharingthatshe

bought(forthoseofyouthatdontknowImobsessedwithrings),sothatwonmyheartstraightaway.Butmyhostcousinsalsoboughtmeanegg,thisisa

Thismonth,Ialsowenttothemountainswithmyhostmumandherfriends,on

theborderofAustriainaplacecalledPaluzza.Westartedwalkinginthemorningandfinishedinthelateafternoonanditwasabsolutelybeautiful.Ive

neverseenanythinglikeitinmyentirelife.

Thiswasagoodwaytoworkoffsome(andwhenIsaysomeImeanlikeone8th)

oftheeasterfoodthatIhadeatenthedaybefore.

Asforschool,everythingisgoingwell.Iamstillfindingithardtounderstandthescientificandmathematicalsubjects(godknowsIdidntevenunderstandthem

Allinall,thismonthhasbeenaveryfoodymonthandasItypethisImsnackingonapieceofchocolateSoexpectaslightly(orincredibly)biggerversionofme

whenyouseemewalkingthroughthosearrivalgatesattheairport.
