CHALLENGES WE FACE

o The average practice is paid a total of £150/patient to include all staff costs and running the surgery - Huge increase in running costs last year

o GPs are self employed so run a business as well as seeing patientso GPs more stressed in the UK than any other country - 62% very stressed or

extremely stressedo UK GPs work more hours than any other EU countryo 208.7m appointments April to November 2019 - Increase of 2.6m from 2018

figureso Patients per FTE GP has risen from 1653 to 2119 in September 2019 - 16%

drop in FTE GPs since 2015o Number of GP partners has decreased by 16% in 4 years - In North Cornwall

we have the least number of GPs per patient than the whole of Cornwallo Practices are closing, in 2013 there were 8106 practices, in December 2019

6836 practices remaining

NORTH CORNWALL LOCALITY

9 very different practices - Bodmin to Bude

2 different PCNs and Camelford currently not in a PCN

Rurality is a huge issue

Most practices small all with issues one way or another

Main issue is workforce, lack of local services, working differently

Poor transport and distance from support services

Limited care and voluntary sector support

PMS income fall

How do we steer our way and ensure we thrive as we have always done with the new rules?
