Unfortunately, road users behaviour falls outside of our jurisdicon, therefore if you have concerns with the way, manner or behaviour of other road users, we encourage you to contact SAPOL or City of Playford Council. To ensure the safety of our students, we need to connue to reinforce safe road behaviours because we have people who connue to ignore signage, road rules and Campus expectaons in this area. Campus leadership will connue to discuss measures and strategies that will enhance the safety of all Campus users. We cant stress enough, that parents / caregivers are requested not to park in the laneway by the Gymnasium off Somerset Grove as it poses a significant safety risk to all pedestrians as the cars try and exit back on to Somerset Grove. Both schools have signage on the fences to remind families how to use the Kiss and Drop Zones correctly. This area, when used well, provides easy drop off and pick up at the busy mes of the day. Please remember: The kiss and drop zone is a NO PARKING zone between 8.00am and 9.00am as well as between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. You must wait in your car and can only be stopped for a maximum of 2 minutes. Drivers are NOT to park and leave their cars. We understand the difficulty which surrounds parking at the Campus and urge all families to use paence and respect whilst remembering that the safety of our children is our priority. Parents speaking rudely to one another and using abusive language is offensive and this behaviour is not condoned by either school. Families are reminded to: abide by the parking signs, refrain from stopping in the bus zone, refrain from calling children to your car when waing at the crossing. All of these pracces pose a risk to student safety and potenally could result in a child being seriously injured. Dear Parents/Caregivers, Welcome to the Week 8 Campus Newsletter. Throughout the term, across the Campus, we have continued to work together to ensure we are providing quality teaching and learning in an environment that fosters inclusion and children striving to be the best they can be. We fully acknowledge that with Covid 19, schooling has looked somewhat different this term, but thankfully restrictions are easing so that we can resume full normality.

Campus Safety: We know we are continually mentioning the importance of car park safety and the importance of everyone following the road rules when operating around the Campus to make sure all Campus users are safe. Principals from both campus schools, Belinda and Jason, recently met with City of Playford Council to try and remedy some immediate road/parking issues around our Campus. Unfortunately, road users behaviour falls outside of our jurisdiction, therefore if you have concerns with the way, manner or behaviour of other road users, we encourage you to contact SAPOL or City of Playford Council. To ensure the safety of our students, we need to continue to reinforce safe road behaviours because we have people who continue to ignore signage, road rules and Campus expectations in this area. Campus leadership will continue to discuss measures and strategies that will enhance the safety of all Campus users. We can’t stress enough, that parents / caregivers are requested not to park in the laneway by the Gymnasium off Somerset Grove as it poses a significant safety risk to all pedestrians as the cars try and exit back on to Somerset Grove.

Both schools have signage on the fences to remind families how to use the Kiss and Drop Zones correctly. This area, when used well, provides easy drop off and pick up at the busy times of the day. Please remember:

The kiss and drop zone is a NO PARKING zone between 8.00am and 9.00am as well as between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

You must wait in your car and can only be stopped for a maximum of 2 minutes.

Drivers are NOT to park and leave their cars.

We understand the difficulty which surrounds parking at the Campus and urge all families to use patience and respect whilst remembering that the safety of our children is our priority. Parents speaking rudely to one another and using abusive language is offensive and this behaviour is not condoned by either school.

Families are reminded to:

abide by the parking signs,

refrain from stopping in the bus zone,

refrain from calling children to your car when waiting at the crossing.

All of these practices pose a risk to student safety and potentially could result in a child being seriously injured. Staff on these duties have a ‘duty of care’ to students and appreciate your support with this matter. We trust you will put the safety of all our children first.

From the Campus Leadership Team…..

PLAYFORD / McAULEY CAMPUS NEWSLETTER PAGE 2

Student Reports: Staff from both schools are currently busy completing student mid-year reports that will show student achievements so far this year. Reports will be sent home in Week 10 from each school. We encourage you to discuss your child’s report with them. Families will have the opportunity to meet with class teachers in Term 3 if needed to discuss these reports and plan for future growth.

Emergency Procedures – upcoming practices: We take this opportunity to remind our communities that we take student and staff safety very seriously, and think that it is timely that we rehearse with our students some emergency procedures in the event of a serious incident. Whilst we acknowledge that this can at times be unsettling for younger students, we need to ensure all students know what to do in the case of an emergency situation. We also see this as a growth point to iron out any issues or nuances (and have them attended to) in the unfortunate event that we have to enact this procedure for a real life situation. Therefore, sometime in the next few weeks, before the end of Term, both schools will enact a Campus invacuation practice (lockdown). If you have any particular concerns regarding your children, please make their class teacher aware ASAP. All classes will hold a debrief after the event, so that they know it was a practice, and the purpose of practicing such important procedures. We appreciate your support in this to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all concerned.

Covid-19 Updates: Physical distancing requirements remain in place. All adults must continue to follow the density and physical distancing guidelines outlined by SA Health:

no more than 1 person per 4-square metres in an enclosed space.

maintain a minimum social distance of 1.5 metres.

A reminder that the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) does not believe that it is appropriate or practical for students and children to maintain physical distancing requirements in classrooms or corridors.

From Monday 29 June, there will be no cap on the number of people in 1 room, however the above physical distancing and room density requirements must be followed by adults e.g. staff meetings. At this stage, we welcome our school communities back on both sites, but will continue restricting parents / caregivers into the actual classrooms. Until further notice, we ask that parents / caregivers refrain from entering classrooms.

From Monday 29 June (Week 10), the following activities can resume providing government health advice and physical distancing requirements are strictly followed:

parents, volunteers, departmental support and other service providers may again enter school and preschool grounds. All external service providers and volunteers must complete a COVID-19 site access form on entry.

school assemblies can recommence – however these will be for students and school staff only, to ensure social distancing requirements and the 4-square metre rule is being upheld.

all intrastate (within SA) camps and excursions.

all school sport competitions, sports days and carnivals, including inter-school competitions (use of change rooms and shower facilities is not permitted).

inter-school choirs, bands and other performing art activities.

school formals, socials and discos.

playgroups and occasional care. (Playford Primary Playgroup will resume on Friday 24th July.)

larger face-to-face professional learning activities.

Requirements that remain in place

It’s important that students and staff stay home if they are unwell.

Physical contact (even between students) must be limited. Non-physical greetings should be encouraged.

School, preschool or early childhood visits to nursing homes cannot recommence.

The general public should not access school playgrounds or play equipment.

Parents must continue to physical distance, including at school pick up and drop off.

Interstate and overseas travel remains on hold.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS: As the end of the term draws closer we remind families that the end of the term will conclude on Friday 3rd July at 12.30pm for Catherine McAuley and 2.10pm for Playford Primary. School will resume on Monday 20th July for Catherine McAuley and Tuesday 21st July for Playford Primary. We would like to thank all of our Campus families for their support during the term and wish you all a safe holiday. We look forward to many exciting events during Term 3.

From the Campus Leadership Team Jason, Vicky, Matt, Liz, James, Lauren and Alison (Playford Primary) Belinda and Angela (Catherine McAuley)

BOOK WEEK 17th-23rd October 2020 “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds” Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) acknowledges Australia authors and illustrators in the lead up to Book Week. Our campus resource centre has copies of all the notable and Book of the Year shortlisted books. The early childhood and picture books will be featured as book of the week for classes to share when they come to the library. See the creative online announcement from the CBCA of the shortlisted books here https://bit.ly/3eapky2 The CBCA has postponed Book of the Year award announcements and celebrations to week 2 term 4. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, we invite you to draw your own curious creature with these tips from award winning book creator Gwyn Perkins https://bit.ly/2UOQwuT Bring your quirky creature drawing to the library to be considered as featured artwork on this year’s Book Week Bookmarks.

LIBRARY BOOK AMNESTY We still have nearly 100 books outstanding from term 1. Reminder notices have been sent. All school library books and take home readers can be easily identified by a campus barcode on the front cover. Please check your bookshelves, coffee tables and under your child’s bed for any school books that need returning. If ever you have an issue with a lost or damaged library book, please contact us as soon as possible. If your child receives an overdue notice, please help them locate and return the books before it becomes an issue. Loans are for two weeks at a time and can be renewed once for a two week extension if needed. Making time to read every day is a valuable practice to help improve reading skills and stamina.

PRE-LOVED BOOK DONATIONS Have your children out-grown some of their books? The most popular books in the library need replacing over time due to wear and tear. We would gratefully accept donations of pre-loved children’s books still in excellent condition. In particular books by Anh Do, Jeff Kinney, Andy Griffiths and Dav Pilkey, and books on Minecraft, Roblox, Guinness World Records and the elusive Where’s Wally? We respectfully ask that you check any books you donate for missing or damaged pages, writing or drawing, especially if Wally has been circled! If you can help us out, please drop off books to either school front office. Thanks for your consideration.
