THE GOLDEN RULE: ‘Treat others as you would like them to treat you.’

You may have heard your child talking about strong and weak decisions. There are 5 Life Raft concepts which every student learnt about during Launching into Learning at the start of the year and are reinforced on a regular basis. These are:

Top tips for organising children for school: Do the prep work the night before. Lay out clothes etc. Pack school lunches while you are waiting for dinner to cook. Have a designated school bag area in the house. Shower/bath children the night before. Make sandwiches and freeze them ready for the week. After washing and drying clothes hang them up immediately to reduce ironing.

HATS

Just a reminder to all families that hats are required every day now. Please make sure that your child/ren have their hat ready for play times and fitness. New bucket hats or broad brim hats are available from the Payment Office, $7.00 each. From 2018 students will be required to wear a hat all year round.

ATTENDANCE IN CLASS

As stated previously, research shows that regular attendance at school is vital to set children up for success. Sadly, our teachers rarely report that they have 100% attendance of their class on any given day. One class this week was outside having a class photo. When asked what it was for the response was: “This is the first day this term when everyone has been at school, we are celebrating that.” We wonder how many other classrooms have a similar story. Congratulations to D07 and H03 for meeting the target! We wonder if more than two classes can reach the target of 95% attendance by the end of the term? Ever wondered what attendance looks like across our classes? Here are our attendance percentages for Term 3 so far.

Congratulations to the following students who have 100% attendance and no late arrivals so far this term:

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCE COMPETITONS

On the 17

th of August Liam, Shaniah, Zac and Lara went to a STEMSEL

Day at Lake Windemere Primary School. We made a pollution sensor that could one day help detect high amounts of pollution in the air. It detects when there is pollution between the sensor and the light. It has different colored lights that help show what level of pollution is in the air. Red is a lot of pollution, yellow is not so much, and green means that there is no pollution in the air around us. We had to program a microchip to make all of this work. It was hard work but a lot of fun. We imagine that one day it could be placed on the walls of shops, in big cities and in homes. It was made out of cardboard, hot glue, sticky tape, a microchip, colored lights, and cellophane. Next week our ‘Pollution Sensor’ will be displayed at the Royal Adelaide Show in the Science and Technology Centre. We need to go and give a presentation in front of 3 judges. We had a great time!

91 STOREY TREE HOUSE

My dad and I went to the 91 Storey Tree House book launch at the Norwood Concert Hall. There was a loooooong queue at the start and I got a bit bored waiting but then they opened the doors and we got to go to our seats. The place was huge! I was excited to see Terry and Andy!

They are very funny (mostly Terry). There was a big red button but they forgot why they had it and what it was for. Andy thought it was bad, Terry thought it was good. Terry kept on trying to push it while Andy tried to stop him. First they did a tour of the treehouse. The first level was the submarine sandwich shop level. Terry drew a submarine sandwich with everything the people asked for including cats, brussel sprouts, dead cats and fish bones. That was really funny.

The next level was the huge spider level (he’s called Bob). Terry drew a huge, huge, huge, huge spider web with a tiny spider. Andy asked “Terry, WHAT IS THAT?!!”. Terry said “ A huge spider. It may seem small but it’s just far, far away”.

When it ended we got photos. I liked it because it was really funny and when Terry pushed the big red button all the lights went out and the show was over.

VEGETABLE PATCH

Students enjoyed cultivating vegetables during Science lessons with Ms Nikolic last term. All vegetables were organically grown, no chemicals were used in the growing process. This term students have been able to reap the benefits of their work by harvesting the crop and taste testing.
