MASS IN HONOR OF THE UNBORN

Have you or a family member lost a child as a result of an abor-tion, miscarriage, or stillbirth? You are invited to join us to make an act of reparation for abortion, pray for healing, and pray for Human Life in the womb.

January 22, 2013 - 7:00 pm St. Lawrence the Martyr

1971 Saint Lawrence Drive Santa Clara 95051

Fr. Joseph M. Geary Council 3523, Knights of Columbus

Enlightening Presentation by Fr. Joe Kim this Sunday, January 13, 4:00 PM on Vatican II

There have been 21 major meetings of the Catholic Church in its 2000 years, where the whole church met, represented by the bishops. The first one was in 325. The last one was the Second Vatican Council, 1962-65. For many Catholics it appears that the council was about having the priest turn around to face the people, ripping out the communion rails, singing songs with guitars and pianos instead of organs, and listening to readings and responding at Mass in English. If that is what this major council amounts to, it will be a failure. There are great treasures that the Holy Spirit is inspiring us to implement from the Council. Come learn about the most important documents of the Council during this Year of Faith one Sunday a month 4:00-5:30 PM in the Parish Activity Center:

January 13, 2013: The first great document produced by the Second Vatican Council: “The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy” -- revolutionary or evolutionary? Where have we succeeded and failed in renewing the liturgy? Presented by Fr. Joe Kim, Parochial Vicar, Holy Spirit Parish

February 10, 2013: The ground-breaking “Constitution on Divine Revelation” (Dei Verbum) -- The fruit of 2000 years of Biblical studies. The nature of Divine Revelation, its transmission, and the formation of the Bible -- its vital significance in the life of a Christian. Presented by Fr. Kevin Joyce, Pastor, St. Lucy Parish.

Respect Life Mass

Please join us at Sacred Heart Parish in Saratoga on Thursday, January 17, at 8 AM. We will be having a Re-spect Life Mass to remember over 53 million babies in the womb have been killed since the Roe vs. Wade decision which made abortion legal in the U.S. The 40th anniver-sary of Roe vs. Wade is on January 22. Please contact Deacon Don Sifferman at [email protected] if you have any questions.

COUNSELING AVAILABLE: A retired parishioner has of-fered to provide peer counseling at no charge. She is available for appointments on Saturday mornings. For fur-ther information contact the Parish Office(378-2464 ext. 118). Your call will be confidential.

19th Annual Discernment Weekend

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT BECOMING A CATHOLIC PRIEST?

Attend a Discernment Retreat At St. Patrick’s Seminary

from 4PM Friday, January 18, 2013 to 1PM Sunday, January 20, 2013.

If you are interested in attending this retreat, please contact Fr. Kevin Joyce at the Parish Office to fill out an application.

On Dec 30, I shared St. Francis' Prayer before the Crucifix of San Damiano during my homily, and some pa-rishioners requested a copy. It is a beautiful way to start each day.

Prayer of St. Francis before the Crucifix

Most High and Glorious God! Enlighten the darkness of my heart.

Give me right faith, firm hope, perfect charity, and profound humility.

Grant me, Lord, wisdom and discernment to carry out your true and holy will.

Amen.

Bodas Comunitarias

caridad perfecta, y humildad profunda. Dame sabiduría y discernimiento para cumplir tu santa y verdadera voluntad.

Amen.

—James A. Wallace, C.SS.R.
