Dear Middle School Parents,

We have a busy week ahead with some great learning opportunies for students, par-

ents and faculty. Every year at this me we invite two counselors from an organizaon

called Freedom from Chemical Dependency, together with our wellness program at

ISM this gives us the opportunity to work with students on posive decision making

and the potenal eects of substance abuse. The FCD team will work predominantly

with students in grade 8 having two sessions with students during their physical educa-

on lesson. We will then have a grade 5 and 6 assemblyon Wednesdayduring adviso-

ry me, and an assembly for grade 7 and 8 students during ourFriday

assembly

me. We will also have a parent coee together with the FCD counselor onFriday

September 12 from 7:45 -8:45A.M. in the Lile Theater.

This week we also have the opportunity to learn with Michael Thompson a leading

expert on child development. He will be presenng to parentson Sundayaernoon

andon Tuesday morning. Michael Thompson will also be speaking to students in Mid-

dle Schoolon Monday and student leaderson Tuesday. These will be great opportuni-

es to learn more and reect on relaonships and the process of how we connect with

each other along with developmental stages that children go through and how this

impacts relaonships. Exact mes and dates can be found below in the Parent Bulle-

n.

We will have our rst ocial Middle School Parent Coee on Tuesday September 23

from 7:45-9:00 A.M. in the Lile Theater. This will be an opportunity for us to speak

to you about what is happening in our Middle School, along with me for informal

conversaons with us and our counselor team. The topics of discussion at this parent

coee will be the implementaon of our new assessment and grading pracces, up-

dates on our BYOD program, what is happening with CWW and informaon on our

advisory program and how we are supporng students with their social and emoonal

development.

Over the past couple of years in Elementary and Middle School a group of parents

have come together to organize aer school lessons for students to further develop

and support Mother Tongue language development. This has been parent driven with

the hiring of instructors in the language and these have taken place in Chinese, Dutch,

French, Hindi, German and Spanish. If you would like to nd out more informaon

about what classes are being oered this year or how to set up a course please contactMei Jusay ([email protected]) our AFAC secretary who is located in the ES oce

area and she can put parents in touch with the other parent liaisons for the dierent

languages.

Beginning on September 13, dierent service opportunies will be oered on

Saturdays. Some events involve a trip to visit a service partner while others in-

volve hosng a local educaon program. Along with the joy of giving, students

benet by interacng with children from dierent backgrounds and geng to

know the Philippines beyond Maka and Taguig. To parcipate, students simply

pick up a permission slip from the MS Oce on the Monday before the trip.

Once its been signed and returned to the oce, a student can sign up on the

roster. Some trips ll up quickly so encourage them to sign up early. Parent are

welcome to aend!

The ATAC game schedule pdf which is updated regularly by Triz Gonzalez (ATAC Athlecs Coordinator) gives the most up to date infor-

maon on where/when and who our Bearcat teams will be playing throughout the school year. Access to the game schedule is via the

ISM parent portal not via power school as in the past. Use this link to access the parent portal, log in with your user name/password

and look for the ATAC Game Schedule tab. Remember to refresh the page when the pdf schedule appears so you view the most cur-

rent schedule.

Game schedules do change at short noce so check oen to ensure you keep up with the most current games/mes and venues.
