Dear Community: This weekend you are surely surprised by the parking lot. This is a dream that for many years we have been hoping to achieve. Now it is a reality. Why so fast? How did we do it? Who is paying for this? Well, if you have been noticing, day by day, our parking lot, which has been damaged for years, has been getting worse. We came to the point where these damages had become a liability for the community. It is my responsibility to keep this property in good condition for everyone and I cannot hesitate when we are talking about our safety. I decided that this had to be done before the new school year begins in two weeks. Now, I will explain to you how we paid for it. In my desperation, I spoke to a parent from our school and his company offered to do this job for half price to help our church. The total cost is $60,000 which is half of all the other estimates that we had already gotten from other companies. I decided that we should take advantage of this bid. The company also offered us the opportunity to pay four payments of 25%. I paid the first 25% ($15,000) with money we had for our monthly operations. We need to replace these funds in order to pay these bills and we will also have to cover the other three payments. The question is: How will we do that? That is our new challenge. I understand that my responsibility is to take care of the safety and beauty of the property. Now it is your responsibility as parishioners to take care of your church. I am asking you to please make a special effort to donate to our parking lot fund. Special envelopes are available on the tables in the back of the church or at the Parish Center. If each of us does our part this will be easy. Remember that the federal government respects this kind of donation and you can request a tax deduction for this. In Christ Fr Abelardo Cobos Pastor

Querida Comunidad: Con seguridad este fin de semana todos quedarán sorprendidos por el estado de nuestro estacionamiento. Este es un sueño que por muchos años hemos querido llevar a cabo. Ahora todo ese sueño se ha convertido en una realidad. ¿Por qué lo hemos hecho tan rápido? Cómo lo hicimos? ¿Quién pagará por todo este cambio? Pues bien, si ustedes se han podido dar cuenta, día tras día, nuestro estacionamiento que ido sufriendo el deterioro de tantos años y cada día se ha ido empeorando. Hemos llegado al punto en que este daño se ha convertido en posible riesgo para nuestra comunidad. Es mi responsabilidad mantener esta propiedad en buenas condiciones para el uso apropiado de todos y no puedo ahorrar esfuerzos cuando se trata de nuestra propia seguridad. Por tanto, decidí adelantar de inmediato los arreglos necesarios antes de iniciar el nuevo año escolar que comienza en dos semanas. Ahora, voy a explicarles la manera como se pagó por estos arreglos. En mi desesperación, hablé con uno de los padres de familia de nuestra escuela y su compañía se ofreció a hacer este trabajo a mitad de precio con el fin de ayudar a nuestra iglesia. El costo total es de $ 60,000, que viene a ser la mitad de todos los demás estimados que ya habíamos recibido de otras empresas. Decidí que deberíamos aprovechar esta oferta. La compañía también nos ofreció la oportunidad de pagar el total en cuatro pagos de 25% cada uno. Los sobres especiales para este fin se encuentran disponibles en las mesas en la parte de atrás de la iglesia o en el Centro Parroquial. Si cada uno de nosotros hace su parte todo lo podremos lograr más fácilmente. Recuerde que el gobierno federal respeta este tipo de donaciones y por tanto ustedes puede solicitar la deducción de impuestos por estas donaciones que hagan para la iglesia. Prayers for Fr. Cobos Our Pastor, Fr. Abelardo Cobos, had surgery to repair the broken bones in his foot. The operation was successful and he is now resting and recovering from the surgery. Fr. Cobos would like to thank you all for your prayers. Please continue to pray for him during his time of healing and recovery.

Music Ministry Choir Rehearsals for 2015-2016 will resume Tuesday August 25 at 6:00 PM in the church. If you would like to be a part of this renewed ministry, please join us! No formal or previous training is required. Our new Music Director, Dylan, is excited to lead our parish in worshiping God through music. OLMC School First Day of School at OLMC! The first day of school started with much excitement! Students, Teachers, and Parents arrived to school with excitement and enthusiasm! The day began with an address from the principal, welcoming parents and students. Father Cobos was unable to be present due to his foot injury, but his sentiments of welcome were conveyed to everyone. Community prayer was led by Mrs. Teresa Pepito. The students were dismissed to their classrooms and the first school day was well on its way. Parents were given the opportunity to visit with teachers at noon dismissal. We would like to thank all those parents for their continued positive support in building our community at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. We ask for your prayers for a great and exciting year, as we hold true to our mission in providing the best in academic preparation and faith formation. God bless you!

Escuela OLMC Primer día de escuela en OLMC! El primer día de clases comenzó con mucho entusiasmo! Los estudiantes, maestros y padres de familia llegaron a la escuela con emoción y entusiasmo! El día comenzó con un discurso dirigido por nuestro director, quien dio la bienvenida a los padres y a los estudiantes. El Padre Cobos no pudo estar presente debido a su lesión en un pie, pero sus sentimientos de bienvenida fueron transmitidos a todos los presentes. La oración comunitaria fue dirigida por la señora Teresa Pepito. Luego los estudiantes fueron enviados a sus salones de clase y así inició nuestro primer día de clases que ya arrancó su camino durante este año. Los padres tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer y saludar a los maestros durante la salida de los estudiantes al mediodía. Quisiéramos dar las gracias a todos los padres por su continuo y positivo apoyo en la construcción de nuestra comunidad aquí en la escuela Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo. Confirmation Confirmation II Registration and Pre-test 2016 Confirmation II is the second year of a two-year sacramental preparation program. High School students interested in making their Confirmation in 2016 are invited to register on Thursday, August 20 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in the Parish Center. Copies of the Baptism and First Communion certificates will be required. Students are encouraged to bring a Bible, pen, and allow for thirty minutes to take the pre-test. Confirmation II Orientation 2016 Confirmation II Orientation 2016 will be held on Sunday, August 23 at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall. Preparing for Next Sunday Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the first reading, when Joshua asks the tribes to renew their commitment to God, they respond, We will serve the Lord. In Ephesians, where Paul is speaking of how marriage is like Christ and the Church, he says, And the two shall become one flesh. In John’s Gospel, the disciples react to Jesus’ teaching about the Eucharist, and some leave. Peter, however, proclaims that Jesus is the Christ.
