Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Church, The psalmist assures us today that our God is “merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and fidelity.” As we enter the second phase of the coronavirus shutdown, we acknowledge God’s continuing kindness and mercy. With God’s help we are well prepared this time around to provide spiritual nourishment for all our parishioners. This time we are encouraged to safely utilize our outdoor spaces for the different services we provide. According to the Archdiocese:
Outdoor Masses and other liturgical services such as adoration and prayer services are allowed and encouraged. Parishes may continue to celebrate Confessions, First Communions, Confirmations, Funerals, and Weddings outdoors on the parish grounds. Parishioners must wear face coverings and practice social distancing, even outdoors.
So our regular parish spiritual activities will continue as usual with few adjustments. We will offer ALL weekend Masses. All Sunday Masses will be in-person while the 5:00pm and 7:00pm Masses on Saturday will only be live-streamed in English and Spanish respectively. Confession will be offered on Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Daily Masses will continue as usual at 7:00am and 6:00pm. Our upcoming celebrations including the first Holy Communion, the Confirmation and the RCIA will continue as scheduled. My dear brothers and sisters, more than ever before, we need to stay strong in our faith. Let us participate actively in the life of the parish. For with the help of the Lord, we shall overcome the adversities of this period. What prophet Isaiah said to King Ahaz during the time of adversity in Israel, I now say to you, “Unless your faith is firm you shall not be firm!” (Is 7:9) Wishing you all God abiding graces and blessings, through Christ our Lord. abundante en bondad y fidelidad". Al entrar en la segunda etapa del cierre del coronavirus, reconocemos la continua bondad y misericordia de Dios. Con la ayuda de Dios estamos bien preparados esta vez para proporcionar alimento espiritual a todos nuestros feligreses. YOUTH MINISTRY
I am someone who is big on evangelization. Evangelization can take place in so many different forms: one on one, in a class, through social media, through videos, large groups, small groups, etc. So why is it so hard for us Catholics to evangelize others? My personal theory is laziness and selfishness. I evangelize on a daily basis in many different forms and trust me it can be exhausting, but its worth. I am constantly inspired by my core team because they are so good at evangelizing especially outside of our program. The team knows the hard work and effort that goes into evangelization and they have seen the fruits of that hard work. These past few weeks the gospels have had this theme of evangelization and how important it is. Everyone who is a Confirmed Catholic is called to evangelize, heck even Non-Confirmed Catholics can evangelize, yet we don’t answer that call. I challenge you all to take a look at your life and how you do or do not evangelize. What works and what doesn’t? Do you evangelize or do you just keep to yourself? Our faith is meant to be shared in a community and we can evangelize each other but we have to make the effort to do so.
Soy alguien que es grande en la evangelización. La evangelización puede tomar muchas formas diferentes: uno-a-uno, en clase, a través de los medios de comunicación social, a través de videos, grupos grandes, grupos pequeños, etc. Entonces, ¿por qué es tan difícil para nosotros los católicos evangelizar a los demás? Mi teoría personal es la pereza y el egoísmo. Yo evangelizo a diario de muchas formas diferentes y créeme, puede ser agotador, pero vale la pena. Me inspiro constantemente en mi equipo Core porque son muy buenos evangelizando especialmente fuera de nuestro programa. El equipo conoce el trabajo duro y el esfuerzo que se hace en la evangelización y han visto los frutos de ese trabajo duro. Estas últimas semanas los evangélicos han tenido este tema de la evangelización y lo importante que es. Todos los católicos confirmados están llamados a evangelizar, incluso los católicos no confirmados pueden evangelizar, pero no respondemos a ese llamado. Los reto a todos a que echen un vistazo a su vida y a cómo evangelizan o no. ¿Qué funciona y qué no funciona? ¿Evangelizan o sólo se guardan para ustedes mismos? Nuestra fe está destinada a ser compartida en la comunidad y podemos evangelizarnos unos a otros, pero tenemos que hacer el esfuerzo para hacerlo.

WE NEED TO GROW We live in an instant
world of microwaves and drive-throughs and a disposable society in which things quickly become obsolete, so today’s message is very strange. In all the readings today, and especially in the Gospel, we see transformation, but it is not something that happens overnight, nor does it take place without effort. We are met with parables of a patient and loving God who can see a positive outcome at the end and is willing to wait and nourish us and help us all get there. The sower’s seeds require a growth period and some careful sorting. To make the bread, one must knead it and wait patiently. In planting a mustard seed, something so tiny yields great results, but not until after completing a period of dormancy and waiting.
NECESITAMOS CRECER Vivimos en un mundo instantáneo de microondas, comida rápida entregada en ventanillas y en una sociedad desechable en la que las cosas se vuelven obsoletas tan rápido, por lo que el mensaje de hoy es muy extraño. En todas las lecturas de hoy y especialmente la del Evangelio, vemos la transformación, pero no es algo que ocurra de la noche a
la mañana, ni tampoco pasa sin esfuerzo. Nos encontramos con parábolas de un Dios paciente y amoroso que puede ver un resultado positivo al final y está dispuesto a esperar, a alimentarnos y ayudarnos a todos a llegar allí. Las semillas del sembrador necesitan de un tiempo para crecer y de cuidados. Para preparar el pan, se debe amasar la masa y esperar pacientemente. Al plantar una semilla de mostaza, algo tan pequeño que produce grandiosos
resultados, pero solo hasta que cumpla un periodo de inactividad y espera.
GOOD SEEDS Today Jesus continues to speak to his followers using parables. What a rich treasure we are given today in three parables about the kingdom of heaven! The kingdom is likened to a man sowing good seed in his field, a mustard seed, and yeast mixed with flour. As they did last week, today the disciples press Jesus for an interpretation of one of the parables—the parable of the man sowing good seed. Lest we think that these parables are simply amusing little anecdotes, Jesus’ interpretation should be seen for what it is—a warning. Wailing and grinding of teeth in a fiery furnace await those who are children of the evil one. This parable points to the struggle for today’s believer. Sometimes, through sin, we sow weeds and prevent the love of Christ from blossoming. Let today’s Gospel help put us back on track. Let us recommit ourselves to preparing for the last days, the harvest, by blossoming as the good seeds we were created in love to be. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
BUENAS SEMILLAS Hoy Jesús continua hablando en parábolas con sus seguidores. ¡Qué rico tesoro nos regalan las tres parábolas sobre el Reino de los cielos! El Reino se parece: a un hombre que siembra buena semilla en su campo, a una semilla de mostaza y a la levadura que se mezcla en la harina. Al igual que la semana pasada, hoy los discípulos piden que Jesús les interprete una de las parábolas –la parábola del hombre que siembra buena semilla. Para que no pensemos que estas parábolas son simples anécdotas entretenidas, la interpretación de Jesús debe considerarse como lo que es –una advertencia. Llanto y desesperación esperan a los hijos del maligno. Esta parábola señala la lucha del creyente de hoy. A veces, por el pecado, sembramos cizaña y evitamos que el amor de Cristo florezca. Que el Evangelio de hoy nos ayude a retornar al buen camino. Comprometámonos a prepararnos para los días finales, para el tiempo de cosecha, floreciendo como buenas semillas creadas por el amor.
