Por los ritmos de tiempos y estaciones, celebremos los misterios de salvación. La culminación del año litúrgico, el Triduo Pascual del Señor: su última cena, su crucifixión, su sepultura y su resurrección, se celebrará entre la noche del decimotercer día de abril hasta la noche del decimosexto día de abril Domingo de Pascua de Resurrección. Cada Pascua –como en cada domingo– la Santa Iglesia hace presente la gran obra de salvación por la que Cristo ha conquistado para siempre el pecado y la muerte. Desde Pascua de Resurrección, calculamos los días santos que observamos. El Miércoles de Ceniza, comienzo de la Cuaresma, caerá el día primero de marzo. proclamation of the date of easter Dear brothers and sisters, the glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return. Through the rhythms of times and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation. Let us recall the year’s culmination, the Easter Triduum of the Lord: his last supper, his crucifixion, his burial, and his rising, celebrated between the evening of the thirteenth day of April and the evening of the sixteenth day of April —Easter Sunday. Each Easter —as on each Sunday— the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by which Christ has forever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep holy. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the first day of March. The Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ will be commemorated on Sunday the twenty-eight day of May. Pentecost, the joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on the fourth day of June. The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ will be on the eighteenth day of June. And this year the First Sunday of the Advent of Our Lord Jesus Christ will be on the third day of December. Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the holy Mother of God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed. To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise, honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The Proclamation of the Date of Easter on Epiphany dates from a time when calendars were not readily available. It was necessary to make known the date of Easter in advance, since many celebrations of the liturgical year depend on its date. The number of Sundays that follow Epiphany, the date of Ash Wednes-day, and the number of Sundays that follow Pentecost are all computed in relation to Easter. Although calendars now give the date of Easter and the other feasts in the liturgical year for many years in advance, the Epiphany proclamation still has its value. It is a reminder of the centrality of the resurrection of the Lord in the liturgical year and the importance of the great mysteries of faith which are celebrated each year.

La Proclamación de la Fecha de Pascua en Epifanía se remonta a la época cuando los calendarios no eran fáciles de conseguir. Era necesario dar a conocer la fecha de la Pascua con anterioridad, ya que muchas de las celebraciones del año litúrgico dependen de la fecha de la misma. El número de domingos que siguen de la Epifanía, la fecha del Miércoles de Ceniza, y el número de domingos que siguen de la Pascua se calculan de acuerdo a la fecha de Pascua. Aún cuando tene-mos ahora calendarios disponibles que nos dan las fechas de las fiestas liturgicas, la proclamación de Epifanía tiene valor. Es un recordatorio de la centralidad de la resurrección del Señor en el año litúrgico y de la importancia de los grandes misterios de fe que celebramos cada año.

What image do you take away from this reading? Look into your life Question for children: In your life, who helps you to see Jesus in other people such as a classmate or a friend? Question for youth: The star guided the magi to Jesus. What are the people or events who have guided you in your relationship with Jesus? Question for adults: How this past week did you demonstrate God’s love at home and at work? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: The word epiphany means to reveal or to be manifest. What have you learned about God from your family? Cut star shapes out of white paper, one for each family member. Have family members write their responses to the question on the paper stars. Older family members can write for younger children. Hang the stars in your home as a reminder of God’s presence. Help your family experience a true epiphany. Spend time this week looking for God. Go out for a walk, or look for God in your home. See where God leads you. Epiphany is a traditional time for the blessing of homes. It is a time to celebrate the fact that God can be found in our everyday environment. We know that we are part of the family of God and that God dwells in our home. Plan a blessing of your home. Use the blessing guide we give in our parish. You can also bless every room in your house using holy water. Discuss these questions: What stops us from seeing God’s presence in our world today? What helps us see God’s actions and presence in the world around us?

Creating a Culture of Encounter ♦ Creando una Cultura de Encuentro

(National Migration Week) January, 8 — 14 de enero (Semana Nacional de Migración)

For nearly a half century, the Catholic Church in the United States has cele-brated National Migration Week, which is an opportunity for the Church to reflect on the circumstances confronting mi-grants, including immigrants, refugees, children, and victims and survivors of human trafficking. The theme for Nation-al Migration Week 2017 draws attention to Pope Francis' call to create a culture of encounter, and in doing so to look beyond our own needs and wants to those of others around us. In the homily given at his first Pentecost as pope, he emphasized the importance of encounter in the Christian faith: "For me this word is very important. Encounter with others. Why? Because faith is an encounter with

Jesus, and we must do what Jesus does: encounter others." With respect to migrants, too often in our contemporary culture we fail to encounter them as persons, and instead look at them as “others.” We do not take the time to engage migrants in a meaningful way, but remain aloof to their pres-ence and suspicious of their intentions. During this National Migration Week, let us all take the opportunity to engage migrants as children of God who are worthy of our attention and support.

Durante casi medio siglo, la Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos ha celebrado la Sema-na Nacional de Migración, la cual es una opor-tunidad para la Iglesia de reflexionar sobre las circunstancias que enfrentan los migrantes, incluyendo a los inmigrantes, los refugiados, los niños y las víctimas y sobrevivientes de la trata de personas. El tema de la Semana Nacional de Migración 2017 llama la atención al llamado del Papa Francisco de crear una cultura de encuentro, y al hacerlo, de ver más allá de nuestras propias necesidades y deseos a las de los que nos rodean. En la homilía pronunciada en su primer Pentecostés como Papa, él hizo hincapié en la importancia del encuentro en la fe cristiana: "Para mí esta palabra es muy importante. Give us the courage to welcome every stranger as Christ in our midst, to invite them into our communities as a demonstration of Christ’s love for us. We pray that when we encounter the other, we see in her the face of your Son, when we meet a stranger, that we take his hand in welcome. Help us to live in solidarity with one another, to seek justice for those who are persecuted and comfort for those who are suffering. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Thank you also to everyone who gave Christmas greetings and gifts to me and the other members of our pastoral staff, we sincerely appreciate your kindness. The Christmas season gifts us with a wonderful time and your kindness and gener-osity make it even more special.
