1. Did Jesus ever say that he was coming back?

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God;

trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have

told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for

you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”


Matthew 24:1-8, 26-311Jesus left the temple and was walking away

when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all

these things?” he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another;

every one will be thrown down.”


Matthew 24:1-8, 26-313 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the

disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the

age?”


Matthew 24:1-8, 26-314 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one

deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and

rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth

pains….


Matthew 24:1-8, 26-3126 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the

desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as

lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the

Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.


Matthew 24:1-8, 26-3129 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“ ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power

the heavens to the other.

2. When’s this gonna happen?


Matthew 24:36-4436 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the

angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the

Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in

marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood

came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other

left.


Matthew 24:36-4442 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If

the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and

would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an

hour when you do not expect him.”

14.2 We believe in the blessed hope that at the end of the age Jesus Christ will return to this earth personally, visibly, physically, without warning, in power and great glory; and that He will gather

His elect, raise the dead, judge the nations, and establish His kingdom. We believe that the righteous will enter into the

everlasting joy of their Master, and those who suppressed the truth in unrighteousness will be handed over to everlasting

conscious misery.

4. How does the future return of Jesus impact me now?


1 John 3:1-3How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear

friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we

know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has

this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.


1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:1113 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant

about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen

asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly

not precede those who have fallen asleep.


1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:1116 For the Lord himself will come down from

heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with

these words.


1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:111Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that

the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and

safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they

will not escape.

this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,

but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get

drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith

and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11
