FINDINGA CURE:
For those of you who have yet to experience the
phenomenon known as Senioritis, consider yourselves
lucky. For many who are completing the final semester of
their degree, the struggle of Senioritis is all too real. It can be
described as a decrease in levelsof motivation towards
studies nearing the end of ones university career. Symptomsinclude opting for any other activity instead of attending class,
dreading anything that requires opening a textbook and a
general sense of apathy towards all things school-related.
We have compiled some tips to help you combat those nasty
symptoms, doctors orders!
1. GOAL SETTING
Sit down, and focuson what it is you really want in 5 years
from now. What do you want to be doing? What do you want
to have accomplished? Be specific, and be optimistic. Its
true when they say you can do anything you put your mind to
(and work hard for). Put these goals where youwill see them
on a daily basis. Remind yourself of what you want, and thatwhat you are doing now is helping to prepare you to get
there.
2. STUDY SMART
By now we have all learned that leaving that 2000 word paper
until 11 pm the night before is not necessarily the best
strategy; however history seems to continue to repeat itself.
And while we all have good intentions at the beginning of the
semester, the weeks begin to pass, and readings go undone.
Sit and reflect on the lessons you have learned over the past
years, there is no better time than right now to implement
those lessons. Read ahead, make good notes, start that end
of-term project now.. I dare you. You may have scheduled
study and work time into your day, but simply blocking off a
period of time is not enough. Be sure to make the most ofthis time to by getting rid of all of the distractions. Facebook
will still be there once youve finished reading that chapter,I
swear.
3. TRY SOMETHING NEW
Im sure you have heard it a million times by now, but what
you do outside of the classroom is what differentiates you
from others in the job market. What you might not hear as
often is that you will rememberthese experiences long after
you have forgotten who the heck Michael Porter is, or what
the four Ps of Marketing are. Get involved, volunteer, give
something you have always wanted to do a shot. Adding
something new inyour finalsemester will certainly helpkeepthings interesting.
One final note: if this is your last year, it is helpful to sit back
and reflect on where you were when you first began your
days in University and realize how far you have come. Think
about all of the incredible people that you have met, and
realize that you will never all be in the same space again.
Enjoy the company of those around you and the last days of
your undergrad!
