World Marriage Day at Mission San Jose on

February 9/10 at all Masses

World Marriage Day Prayer

Father, as we prepare for WMD, we thank you for your tremendous gift of the Sac-rament of Marriage. Help us to witness to its glory by a life of growing intimacy. Teach us the beauty of forgiveness so we may become more and more One in Heart, Mind and Body. Strengthen our dialogue and help us become living signs of your love. Make us grow more in love with the Church so we may renew the Body of Christ. Make us a sign of unity in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Brother.

Amen.

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.” John 15:12

“Thank you” to Nick Lewis for donating a freezer and Chester Cupp for donating a re-frigerator and Patt Humphrey for monetary do-nation for our new refrigerator in the mini cen-ter.

“It is in giving that we receive” St. Francis of Assisi

St. Joseph

To you St. Joseph we bring our broken hearts and all of the discouragement that weighs us down. Impurity and scandal have wounded our Church and have brought much shame, sorrow, pain and tears. We ask you St. Joseph, to be our guide along this very dark path, for you are the model of faith, purity and devotion that we need so desperately. May the Lord send forth the burning fire of the Holy Spirit and renew the face of the Church, and the world. May those who are in roles of authority look to you as their model of virtue, that they may lovingly protect and nurture those in their care.

St. Joseph we ask for your prayers for all those who have been harmed. We ask you protect them and give them strength and courage during their time of healing. We ask your Son our Lord Jesus, to look over and protect them.

We humbly ask all of this in the Name of our All Good, All Holy, All Just, All Loving, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 10, 2019

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

“Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?”

“Here I am, “I said, “send me!”

— Isaiah 6:8

La Historia de Mission San Jose

Lime was a critical component of the construction process. Lime making varied according to the intended use of the lime. There were two basic types of lime kilns. A flare kiln was used to produce the clean white lime used for plastering and white washing the walls of the building. A single load of limestone and wood was allowed to burn out. The running kiln was constantly in use. As a load of limestone and wood burned out, another was added to it, constantly refilling the kiln. Lime was raked out at the bottom. This lime was contaminated with charcoal and ash causing the lime to be grey in color. At San Jose during the period 1720 to 1760, 3 lime kilns, each interior diameter 5 feet, were built into a gully on the edge of the river just north of the mission.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

The Reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to em-bracing new vision, new values. Many popular tele-vision shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor.

At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by com-mitting ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ’s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sor-rows. The bread and wine carried to the altar con-tain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God’s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ.

On Sundays, this self giving is often accompa-nied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Yet the act of giving from our abundance, and attending to the needs of the poor, opens us up to participation in the chang-es the Reign of God requires. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
