La Historia de Mission San Jose

When choosing a site for a new Mission, the highest priority was the accessibility of water. The missionaries looked for a place where water could be taken from the river and a dam could be built across the river. The dam was needed to hold the level of the water in a pond behind the dam so that it was high enough for water to flow through a cut in the riverbank into the head of the acequia (irrigation ditch) system while the normal flow of the river fell over the top of the dam. Franciscans referred to these structures as the “presa,” dam, or “toma de aqua,” a water outlet. A good dam location would be a “short distance from the plains and have firmness of the edge {of the riverbank}.” Source: Of various magnificence, James E. Ivey Submitted by tri-centennial committee.

The Holy Mass has 4 parts • Entrance Rites • Liturgy of the Word • Liturgy of the Eucharist • Concluding Rites

We believe that through the death and resurrection of Christ we are united with him, but also we are united with all the saints, the angels, the Church all over the world and with all our brothers and sister who have died. That is why we pray with and for all of them during the Eucharistic Prayer.

We finish this Eucharistic Prayer with the Doxology; by elevating the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ we glorify God and recognize once again the Holy Trinity. With the Great Amen at the end we confirm, we say it is true, so it has to be loud and strong, coming not just from our lips but from our hearts. When we come to mass, we come as sinners who want to be found by Jesus. It is around the table of the Lord that we are transformed. It is through his death on the cross that he took all our sins and offered us a new life in him. It is through the Eucharist that he gives us this new life if we believe in him. It is important to know the meaning of what happens during the Eucharist; Jesus becomes present showing us the love and mercy of our God. To be continued next Sunday

====================================================

Religious Education @ Mission San Jose

This year, the Church celebrates Catechetical Sunday on September 16, 2018. The 2018 theme is "Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity

for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
