HOW GOD INTENDS US TO LIVE

Today’s readings are again directed to believers, communities of faith. As in last week’s reading, Amos con-fronts us with a condemnation of those whose lives are focused on pleasure and self-absorption. The psalm contrasts that focus with the Lord’s—justice for the oppressed; food the hungry; freedom for captives; sight to the blind; raising of those who are bowed down; loving the just; pro-tecting strangers, orphans, and the widow; and by doing so, thwarting the way of the wicked. Timothy urges the pursuit of righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

For many years our dear brother Leo Lopez pro-moted a public rosary as a way to honor Our Lady of Fatima and to raise aware-ness of the need to pray for our country. Please join us in praying for our nation on October 12, 2019, at 12:00 noon. The local Public Square Rosary Rally will take place at the Pavilion on Mis-sion Road and the San Antonio River. SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Sunday 29th: St. Michael the Archangel

Monday 30th: St. Jerome

Tuesday 1st: St. Therese of Lisieux

Wednesday 2nd: St. Leger

Thursday 3rd: St. Ewald

Friday 4th: St. Franics of Assisi

Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

SACRAMENT of BAPTISM

What names are given to the

first sacrament of initiation?

This sacrament is primarily called Baptism

because of the central rite with which it is

celebrated. To baptize means to “immerse”

in water. The one who is baptized is im-

mersed into the death of Christ and rises

with him as a “new creature” (2 Corithians

5:17). This sacrament is also called the

“bath of regeneration and renewal in the

Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5); and it is called

“enlightenment” because the baptized be-

comes “a son of light” (Ephesians 5:8).

Con que nombres se conoce el

primer Sacramento de

la iniciacion?

El primer sacramento de la iniciacion recibe,

ante todo, el nombre de Bautismo, en razon

del rito central con el cual se celebra:

bautizar significa “sumergir” en el agua;
