Back to Maui and back into sailing mode. Swells arestarting to hit the Northshore of Maui in September andwe even had a big south swell which is late in theseason. The south shore was going off for a day andthose who were able to get into La Perouse bay got akiller swell direction and size.We got some more photo's of the wave sails at Hookipaduring a nice North East swell and were able to enjoythe new Legends and Globals and really put themthrough a good test.

Back on the road to china and Sri Lanka to checksail production and work on booms. I caught our

third production run of the wave sails down in thefactory and was able to double check all details. I haveto say everything looked good and product now isbeing delivered on time. We are getting a wave orsecond round orders from importers, which is great andpositive that our sails are being welcomed into themarket.

The carbon boom project is now starting to draw in onit's final stages. With the grip design and a few fittingdetails being finalized we are close to startingproduction. This product will be one of the finestbooms on the market, we are expecting big things andreaction when we finally hit the stores.

gusty.Sailing with him again was really good because wedidn't sail much together for a long time because hewas gone right after the King of the Caribbean andsince then we hadn't sail with each other and sailingwith him is another feeling. Well during our sessionswe pretty much pushed the limit doing: double spocksdiablo, flat water goiters, flat water air chachos, andsome other new freestyle moves that are still have to becompleted - but we are getting there.

On the second week we had just one day that was reallywindy and I sailed with the 4.5 legend. Tonky, Kirisome other friends and I went straight to the waves, where we had some high jumps and there were alsonice waves to rip on. we sailed for like 3 hours in thewaves and after that we went back to Sorobon baywhere Elvis Martinus wanted us to do freestyle movesso that he can film us. I think he got more then an hour

Barry and I were able to enjoy a nice afternoon on hiscatamaran Hula girl, and get out into some strong tradewinds one Sunday afternoon.

Now Kev and I are over in Germany at Sylt for thePWA World Cup. I remember back in 1985 when Iattended my first World Cup Sylt, it was such a disasterfor me, I think I placed 36th in racing and swore Iwould never come back again. But now after more than20 years attending World Cups I can't wait for it to startand feel the adrenalin rush of getting on the race coursein front of the Sylt crowds.

We actually just finished the event I placed 12th inSlalom 42. More reports on the website.

The first week of the month there was greatconditions here on Bonaire sailing most of the

days with my 5.0 legend and starboard freesex 90.Tonky and I pretty much sailed together on the otherside of Bonaire in the open sea where the wind isalways much stronger then in Sorobon bay but more

The past month I have been windsurfing andtraining a lot, literally everyday with my newMauiSails Legends which work great for me.

They have a lot of power and control which I need inthe gusty Aruba winds! I train at the Huts with mybrother and friends and we were blessed to have somuch wind this summer for so long. We wanted somemore adventure to our windsurfing so with the greatwinds we were able to find alot of new spots which wasa lot of fun to do as well.

But when you're having fun time goes fast....eventuallythe summer ended and school started again...so it's likeif my homeworks not finished I don't go windsurfing.

Now that the hurricane season has started there will beless wind which makes it really hot here on Aruba. I'llbe practicing lightwind freestyle a lot now.Today is election day in Aruba and hope it turns outgood because that could decide if the new hotel will bebuilt or not at our windsurfing spot.

In 2 weeks my brother and I will be going to Bonaire topractice with all of the Bonaire guys including myMauiSails teamate Taty so I'm really looking forwardto that!

of freestyle from most of the Bonaire dudes and me.

When the Hurricane Katrina hit NOLA, The wind herein Bonaire died completely and it is really light andextremely hot here in the Caribbean, I spent most of mydays cruising around on my Formula gear, spendingtime with my girlfriend and my dog buddy , I also wentfishing couple of times, swim was pretty much the bestthing to do and kneeboard was really fun to do.

Well I hope the best for all the people that are homelessin the USA and just to let you know that I am prayingfor you guys and keep mind positive I guess that's theonly thing that can help you survive at this tragicmoment.

September takes us back to school and August wasgood for getting ready for that.

During August, we all had some varied travel and Istarted off with the Formula Experience WorldChampionships in Hood River. I touched on this in thelast newsletter, but considering what a nice event itwas, we just have to talk about it again. There weregood winds and no wind, plenty of racing and a goodorganization who kept everything running smooth. I'msure that the young people, especially the groups fromnorthern Europe and Texas, got more than enoughracing AND fun to make them want to do it again.

Which brings me to the school part of the title. Wespent some good time during the second half of themonth working on a collection of school and kidsdesigns that are just today arriving as samples on thebarge. These new designs, which we have named theInspire, are part of the effort to have equipment that iseasy to learn with and that can even progress the sailorstraight into 'normal' sails. Through the size range, theoutlines and battens reflect the probable average user, and fit perfectly with the task of learning the sport. Ourgoal is to get this kind of equipment in front of as manyteenagers as possible, because when you can actually

Barry - Back to School get your teenagers succeeding and having fun, theywon't want to stop.

Here on Maui there is a big surge in the number ofyoung people getting into sailing. Of course, you'dthink, living on Maui and all, that windsurfing shouldbe a natural. But it's not like that unless the wholefamily sails. And what's more boring than going anddoing something with your parents? So we can't be seenas kooky or uncool, and the thing we are doing musttranslate almost instantly into fun (think playstation). This is possibly more challenging than winning a worldcup. Winning the heart and mind of a teenager.

And speaking of teenagers, and kids, we are getting apretty good group going here, with Skyler Haywood(Fred's son), Ashley Baxter (Connor's sister), BakerGrant, and Monty Grant (he's eight), all getting on thewater almost every day. Baker and Skyler are into theMaui Speed Challenge and doing real well. And Montyis already putting his new Rebel sails to work as well.

This is Floras Lake, Oregon with the normal traffic.Half the sailors are young kids. This is whatwindsurfing is like in most places. People just love o gosailing and hang out together. I am happy that the sportseems to be doing something for these folks, and wewant to be right in the middle of that if possible.

Aloha, Barry
